    I have their hendrix strat and it easily has the best neck of any guitar I have ever owned and I am 58 years old and into and playing guitars since I was about 16. To some degree just the feeling in my hands reminds me of a 1964 Gibson SG I had when I was in my mid 20s. Obviously I am not talking about the tone but just the tactile feeling of the wood of the SG. These are awsome guitars for the money. It can be hard to find them online. I got mine in a pawnshop. I had 2 V6 and at the same time a mim player strat. I never touched the player strat again once I got the v6’s. They just felt and sounded so much better than the player strat. That said, I would never buy one of these new. You can get them all day long for $200-$300 bucks. If you buy a new one for $599, the minute you take it out of the box it’s worth $300. The player strat I bought as a floor demo, kept it for 2 years and sold it for a little more than I paid for it. So, my only advice is get a used one.

    @willv2747 Před rokem +1

    I have a Vintage V6 icon SSS strat and it sounds better than any sub 1.5k Fender I’ve tried in a store. The finish and attention to detail was in some places sloppy, with a nut that stuck out a bit and some paint on the neck that needed sanding, but after fixing those things the guitar is smooth and much more inspiring than its Squier or MIM strat counterparts. It made me love strats again -- the neck pickup nails it, and the bridge pickup is highly usable and versatile thanks to it having its own dedicated tone knob (no more ice-pick tone unless you want it). HOWEVER, the quality control on these guitars is extremely variable, so I would recommend only buying these guitars either a) from an online store with its own strict QC, or b) after seeing the actual guitar first. I once went to a store that had 3 Vintage T-style guitars and 2 Vintage strats: the T-style guitars didn’t feel that good and one of the strats was embarrassingly badly put together, while the other strat was the BEST strat I’ve ever played in a store, beautifully finished, very stratty and perfect in every way (and the same price as all the others, go figure). I also just tried a Vintage T-style in the used section of a Guitar Center and it was more inspiring to me than any of the Fenders (or other guitars I tried in that store, period), and I’m strongly considering going back and buying it, even though I don't normally like teles. As another CZcamsr has said, they make the best guitars for the money and the worst guitars for the money - definitely worth checking out and worth the risk to get a good one.

    Vintage guitars have been around for many years here in the Uk, they are distributed by JHS.
    If you can find an older sample with genuine Wlikinson parts they are a serious affordable
    alternative to Fenders crazy priced samples that players go for.
    Be wary of the more recent samples, Trevor Wilkinson no longer visits the factory
    and an alarming quantity are available on ebay with cosmetic defects, but a lot have cracks
    at the neck pocket, inspect before you buy.
    Find a good one, and for the price they will give any Fender a hard time beating it.

    I found the fretwork to be roughly done on mine and in need of a good levelling and polish as they weren't crowned properly. The neck needed to be shimmed and the pickups weren't up to my standards. I bought it as a mod platform because I heard good things and saw good videos. The hardware was fine otherwise though and the Wilkinson staggered block trem and tuners were fine.

    Great video as usual Max. I can confirm, these are great instruments. One of my customers brought me one to do a string change and setup. I was identical to the sunburst one. I was absolutely blown away at how good they are for the money, or at any price point. I plan to get one for myself.

    Nice review! I think it's quite cool, that the Vintage brand didn't blow up (yet) due to that naming. Always, when the quantity of demand and production rises, the quality of the more reasonable priced instruments goes down. Happened before, happens right now with brands (i could name a few) and imo it's hard to expect the opposite ;)

    Thanks for the tip on this brand and the demo! I've been kind-of-sort-of itching to buy a tele or tele-style guitar (you know how it is!) and see they have a great selection, and, like you said, at a great price for what they offer. And thanks everyone here who own a Vintage axe and commented :)

    They may be a secret in America but they are readily available and all over the place in the UK. I have owned 5 or 6 different models over the years and currently have a Vintage Lemon Drop (with the Peter Green out-of-phase sound as standard). As good as any Les Paul I have had. I happen to agree with you about the name though. I always thought that they should simply be called Wilkinson since Trev Wilkinson was behind the design. His name carries much more "heft" and makes more sense.BTW there was a company called "Vantage". They were made in Korea and I have one!!

    • @gthomson8065
      @gthomson8065 Před rokem +1

      Just a clarification, Vantage was originally made in Japan in the 70s and 80s by Matsumoku, the same maker that produced Aria and other top notch brands. It went out of business in the late eighties and the rights to the “Vantage” brand was purchased by a Korean company. The original MIJ Vantages are awesome. The Korean ones aren’t as good but still solid.

    I have 2. I love the guitars but on each one I had to change the pots as soon as I got each one. I don’t see how they made it out of the factory. One of the two I even had to change the switch. The hardware on each one was awesome and the pickups are great also. I was surprised at how well they play and sound. I did have to set up both guitars, the intonation was off on each one. Overall for the money, I was ok having to do the set ups, even on expensive guitars I’ve had to do that. My only gripe was the crappy pots that were used. Maybe that’s been fixed by now. It has been several years since I purchased mine.

They’ve been a big thing in the UK for several years- the problem now is they’re so popular the price has shot up with that and with inflation. All that said still great guitars in the main. Definitely recommend the PGM / Lemon Drop

    I have two of the strat style (HSS and a SSS). I am considering buying the Les Paul Double cut style. I am pleased with them and gig with the HSS. I emailed support as I left the trem bar on a stage and they were responsive to get me instructions on how to tighten the bar’s hole with a grub screw (so it doesn’t fall out again) and to send a replacement arm.

    I had a double cut LP style back in the Day from Vintage.
    Mainly because I was playing with the guitar market heavier from like 2014-2017 and using Wilkinson parts in stuff for fun. Thing was king of a boat anchor but was a nice instrument. Could pretty much only get it from a distributor in Texas then haha
    For some reason it makes me think of the days where you could snag MIMs on Craigslist for under $300. Good times.

    I’ve gigged one for years . About the only things that need doing is file out the fret ends for fret sprout , and replace the wiring harness, pots, and switch - the pickups are nice, hot, Alnico units with cloth wires with a great tone, but the pots, switch etc, are small and eventually start failing. Swap out for a set of CTS and Oak, and you’re good to go

      @@DirkGentley42 Yes, I know that. I was just trying to point out that Max's suggested name change from "Vintage" to "Vantage" was inappropriate, since "Vantage" is already a known guitar brand. This wasn't meant as a criticism, but just an observation.

I know Wilkinson have some great, high quality part's and your video demonstrates how good they are. I will definitely check into the brand more.
