    The fact that Norman is the inventor of the concept of vintage guitars is quite awesome. I came across a very old looking black Stratocaster rosewood neck, in a Scandinavian guitar shop at one time in 1991. I was told it was a prototype dating 1949. Man it was beat up, but even then in 1990´s the concept of a vintage guitar was not quite into the collective consciousness. The asking price was about 300 USD.

    I have a 1964 Firebird III thats in very good shape. It has a lipstick neck pickup which Gibson says is probably a factory pickup. They said they would have to see it to be sure its a factory pickup. If it is a factory pickup, it's one of very few that got out of the factory with this pickup.

  • @jfinester

    Dang! Norm’s got all the cool guitars! OK-the deal with the Epiphone Professional is that it’s got all the amp controls built into the guitar. The reverb and tremolo controls on the guitar just work with the actual circuits in the amp, and it needs a special cord to work. The jack on the guitar’s top just takes the signal from the pickup through the volume and tone controls, for use with a different amp. I always wondered why they didn’t use two pickups on those-I guess they thought the Tonexpressor switches (that’s what they called them!) would have enough tone variations. The same bank of switches was used on the Epiphone Al Caiola models.

      @jfinester Před 3 lety

      Wow! I’ve never seen anyone play one of those; I just remember them from having Epiphone catalogs back in the ‘60s. What kind of music were you playing on it?

    • @allendesomer
      @allendesomer Před 3 lety +1

      @@jfinester I wasn't in a band during that period, so the fact that this rig is clean and mellow didn't stop me from getting into the Stones, Allman Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, Clapton, Moody Blues, Hot Tuna, etc. My guitar had an incredibly stable neck with super low action and very low profile frets. It only had a neck pickup, so brighter tones we're only available via the set of switches and, of course, the tone knob. The amp wouldn't distort on it's own but a boost pedal would make it sing. The multiple pin cable that plugged into the guitar was wired directly to the amp, so pedals could only be played via the standard output jack that didn't allow the onboard reverb and tremolo controls to engage.
      I let her go in 1976, so my memories are starting to fade. ✌️☮️🤣

    A buyer would have to be really, really, really confident of their vintage guitar lore, meaning specs & details, to not be concerned that guitar (the '51 Tele) could be a fake. It's in such good shape. Obviously Norm would be such a person.
    The maple cap '66 P-Bass may be very rare and it's in great shape with a rarish finish, but is it more desirable than a rosewood board?
