I was needing to cut some slots in my square edge Trex boards for the outer edge of the deck. I walked into my garage and said wait a minute. How about my biscuit joiner? The cutter is the same size as a slot cutter made for the groove. Approx 0.15". Doesn't get any easier that using a joiner. Easy to set proper depth and you can cut grooves very fast. I was looking around to see if anyone else was doing this and came across you video. I see you mention a biscuit joiner. If someone has this tool it is definitely the way to go.
8 slots cut in 12 seconds. This will make installing Ipe or Mahogany very fast when using the Tiger Claw TC-G and the Tiger Claw Installation Gun.
Much faster than drilling, countersinking, and fastening with 8 deck screws.
Great video, thanks
Is the groove, since untreated, a higher risk for dry rot?
Hay Mark this is Joe Pieciall Tell Rich Belind to call me I appreciate it I'm not sure if this is you or somebody that recorded this for you thank you
Will this method work for securing with Versaclips? I can't find the TC-G Fasteners any more
Yes, this method will work! The router bit model # is R-5206-RB3W
Could I do this with regular pressure treated decking (rounded edges)?
Can I do the same thing with trax material
Yes, you can. The Trex board can be grooved the same way with the Trex router bit. You can purchase one through a Trex supplier.
I am about to try it with FastenMaster TC-G bit, I was told it would work
