Wow ! Never knew there were so many different varieties. Amazing Garden 👍
Yes, thanks
I have three mature rhodies in my garden. Two in front and one in the back. The two in the front I think are getting too much sun and the section facing west are turning yellowish. Can I correct this with Iron? I live in the Bay Area California along the coast. I would appreciate your input on this. Thank you!
I wish I had room for more rhododendrons. Your collection is fabulous!
Wow! Your Brain is amazing, recalling all of those names without even a hesitation.
Funny how people's minds work. When you love something, it just comes to you. That's the secret.
VERY VERY lovely and thanks for sharing 👍👍👍
Thanks for visiting
Woweewowzers!
Hey Mike! Your rhododendrons are beautiful! I have a rooting question. How risky is it to plant your rooted cuttings directly in the ground, instead of potting them up?
I did that once with a rhododendron a bunch of years ago. It grew into a beautiful specimen in my landscape and is doing well years later. I have a video about it somewhere around here.
Well, I did it! I planted my cuttings in the ground, right after I asked my question. I had one that looked very healthy, and one that looked like a stick with two leaves, (that were turning brown), on it. I decided to stick the almost dead one in the same hole as the healthy one, because I didn’t think it was going to make it, anyway. Well, now they both look great! I think I’m just gonna leave them together, and maybe it’ll end up being just one strong bush! 🤷🏼♀️
I really like the way you have them in beds around those trees. You have so many varieties there you'll be able to sell your own cuttings in a few years
Yeah, we love how we've set all the landscaping up. They definitely need more water around the trees but the beautiful paths through the garden are perfect.
Thanks!
No, thank you Cathy, for all your support!
Amazing area of beauty. And the fact that you know the name of every variety you came up too is crazy lol great job
Thanks. It's a passion of mine. I find that when we love something, it just comes to us naturally.
Awesome, Mike! Thanks for the rhododendron update.. They look fantastic!
My pleasure
Amazing!😍🥰
Thank you! 😄
Beautiful Rhododendrons,I wish that they could last the whole summer. Thanks for sharing your beautiful gardens. 👍❤️😊
Me too. I’m slowly trying to incorporate plants that will continue the blooms through the summer.
Dear, Mike beautiful garden thanks to see with your lovely vlog ❤
My pleasure 😊
Hen do you prune them? Thanks
Yes, when they need it. Might be every few years, might be 5 or more years. Some I’ve never pruned. Just depends on how they look and what I want.
Mike do rhod seeds do well? And how would you go about planting rhod? Thanks Cindy Crites
Yes, they do well, but that's a whole different ball of wax. I know a guy who grows species rhododendrons almost exclusively from seed. It's a long and tedious process but it can be done very well.
@@MikeKincaid79 I can’t find cuttings to plant so I bought seeds and nothing grew from them. I’m in Texas and that’s a problem. The green house in the winter is my next plan. But cuttings is what id like to find. Thanks for replying.
Cindy
Thank you so very much for “a week later garden tour” Mike.
They’re absolutely beautiful!❤
You are so welcome
Glad you like them!
Absolutely Wild !!!!!!! .....
Mike, I bet the scent from all of those heavenly blooms is simply amazing. I can only imagine how wonderful it is. Blessing to you and your beautiful family as you continue to grow and expand your nursery. Have a great week. ~Margie🤗💐🌱
Oddly enough, most varieties have no scent at all, but I've got plenty of the varieties with a scent so it does smell nice when those are in bloom.
I love the green color of the new growth! Thanks for the update on the later bloomers 😊
You're welcome, Joyce!
Thanks for round two! It is amazing how much a garden changes in a week - even a day. I wasn't going to pick a favorite because it is a fruitless fantasy to have rhodies here but that Grandma's Hat really got me.
Prayers for Nate and Lollie(sp?).
Thanks for the prayers. Yes, Grandma’s hat is a favorite of many. Such a beautiful purple.
Absolutely gorgeous❣️❣️❣️ All of them, but that apricot fantasy is my fantasy, it is just the color I been looking for, I love it. I have never seen anything so beautiful as your rhododenderon garden, it is so fantastic, and it even has kitty cats, that just makes it. I love you and all your family, talk to you later👍👍💖💖
Do you think rhododendrons will survive in your area? I’ll send you an Apricot Fantasy.
@@MikeKincaid79 yes I think so , there are alot of them around
They are so beautiful, makes me jealous. Love your variety of colors ,love your channel and the plants. ❤
Thanks so much Rebecca, that means a lot. Glad you enjoy the videos!
Love grandma 's hat! Gorgeous! Polar night is nice too and lavender princess....so many ugh, beautiful. Blue incense.... Great to see you Mike!💜🤗💜
You like the purples. Shellie is the same way. I wonder if they’d grow where you’re at. I could send you one.
How long does it take for a Rhodendron take to get that big?
Depends on the variety but it took about 25 years to get to the point I’m at.
@@MikeKincaid79 That's dedication!
I really enjoy the tours. I have about three pages of notes now, and won't have room to plant my marked favorites, but can dream. I can't wait to see the Black Widow bloom. I can see how these can be addictive. I live next to an Iris field, so I get to see and smell them all I want. Thank you. I wish you lived a little closer, like in S.C. 🥰
I would love to visit your part of the country. I know they grow lots of azaleas down there.
Your rhodies rock, Mike. I like your idea of doing a time-lapse video of the blooming cycle.
Thanks Steve. I was torn this year cause the Timelapse camera was filming the house build. I’ll be filming rhododendron blooms for sure next year.
How many of these are patented plants?
none
Very beautiful man I love Francheska is a nice colour. Mike you took the words right out my mouth I was gonna say we got another video he didnt get struck my lightening, you beat me to it. Stay safe indoors man, we want u around! Good job!
Haha, not my time yet
Such a beautiful garden man, i love the fire rim. Thats gonna be my first rhodi when im ready to plant big😍🔥😍🔥
She’s a beauty!
Wow. Beautiful. You inspire me.
I just started to plant a lot of rhododendrons. The front yard is full of matured trees. Planting the rhododendrons to cover the bottom part of the trees and add color.
On the side of the house I’m planting a whole row of rhododendrons.
Sounds wonderful!
Do you think if you pee on the azalea your human scent will keep the deer away?
I've done it with mole holes and they don't come back through that hole, lol.
@@MikeKincaid79 ha! Small victories!
Oh ty 4 showing us
I would say you kinda like Rhododendrons. ❤😊 Sweetie, you have a gorgeous garden. May God bless you and yours.
Awe, thanks. God bless you too!
Great to have time stamps to jump to variety you're interested in )
A joy to watch this video! I though rhododendrons were only a Southern thing 😅
They’re a huge thing up here in the Pacific Northwest.
The 2 tones are my favorite. They have a few for us in the SE but they are pretty washed out pastel colors so far
They certainly are nice, and my favorite too.
Wow. Rhodies are so pretty and showy. Thanks for showing us the tons of very lovely beautiful blooms. 😍🌸 Great job you guys!
Even the garden with just all the different foliage makes a nice garden . I couldn't choose just one plant for a favourite but I'm partial to purple . You should be very proud of all the hard work you've put into your gardens ,so beautiful . 🇨🇦🦩
What is easiest way to comtact you
Do you have emal?
You can reach me on Facebook at Kincaid's Nursery
Gorgeous!!🥰
Beautiful Garden Mike. Thank you for the tour.
Which one is your favorite low growing fullest variety? Looking to do a privacy hedge so it has to get tall too. 😊 Don’t ask for much do I? 😂 oh yeah, morning shade, afternoon sun.
Lol, so you want a low growing variety that gets tall? You're really trying to challenge me now. That defies logic and physics. Just who do you think I am, lol. Seriously though, there are so many that it's hard to choose. I can give you some great recommendations for both if you narrow it down to color and leaf size, compact or open growth, fast or slow growing? Also, don't forget, you can go with a larger and faster growing rhododendron, and then prune it back to whatever size you want. I can definitely help but point me in the right direction.
@@MikeKincaid79 well, you are the rhodewhisperer aren’t you? 😂 Color doesn’t really matter. Just something full, fast growing, and will block out the neighbor. The bigger the better!
Beautiful garden Mike!
I thought of you yesterday evening on the road as I saw a green Subaru Outback ( I think) with window decals advertising their business as “ The Fig hunter” .. no joke. Fig leaf logo and phone number on all three sides. I tried to take a pic but it was too dark and too fast on the I5 😬
Haha, you must be in northern California. That's David who is the Fig Hunter.
@@MikeKincaid79 That is sooo funny! My first thought was.. "I wonder if ol Mike knows that person?" Very cool! Happy early Father's day Mike!
@@geraldskinner63 you should’ve honked . We carry fig cuttings to give away when we travel.
@@MikeKincaid79 you ready for another fig tasting this summer?
@@TheFigHunter Right on David! I just looked up your web-ste. Your right up the road from me.
Beautiful
Sorry about your friend 😔 that passes
Thank you. It's sad but he's in a better place now.
So nice.
Hello Mike beatiful and clourful
Hey Mike you grow the best looking plants. I grew too many petunias I have one monster plant it's taking over the whole pot 16 incher. Has 3 different shades of purple and a star design
Sounds beautiful. Love when petunias fill out a pot and spill over.
Rhododendron is a greek compound word which means rhodo= rose and dendron =tree
I see Senator Jackson on the four corners of a bridge over your seasonal creek leading to an area you created for the future weddings of your daughters.
Wow, that sounds amazing! I've got a start. That small one I rooted a couple years ago is going strong and has sent up a new season's worth of growth from a 2 gallon pot.
@@MikeKincaid79 It sounds lovely.
What do you feed them I love watching you video
I use a slow release fertilizer that's formulated for acid loving plants.
From the very common to the so very unique it's all just so amazing. I have a book, 'Extreme Horticulture', by John Pfahl, you would fit right in.
I'll have to check it out. Thanks
This is beautiful
Can you propagate rhododendrons and if so how? You have such beautiful plants.
Absolutely. That's mainly what I do. I have a video about it here: czcams.com/video/TzAq5yMVktI/video.html
Yes I know that didn't make any sense the first comment that I made but that's me. Lol cool video really looks awesome. Now get on your pumpkin growing going before you fall way too far behind for the fall.
It's hopeless at this point. Maybe I can grow it in my new living room.
So far the biggest I've gotten is about the size of a tennis ball and then they rotted off the plant like I said I'm not very good at growing pumpkins yet. But accidentally growing zucchini the size of my calf I'm really good at doing. Lol get busy at work and miss a couple days of picking and there you go you have way too big as zucchini
Have you ever thought about taking the rhododendrons on the road.
LOL
dr mike, you are an inspiration.. is it possible for you to send a sapling to India?
Thanks you but I'm sorry, I'm not set up for shipping overseas and I'm not sure it would even make it through customs.
You remind me of a friend I use to know in Shawsville, Virginia.
I need to find someone who sells 'Apricot Fantasy'. Love that color! I have a few Grandiflorums in our (much smaller) among some others. I have one Viscy which has a similar color to Apricot Fantasy. Are you familiar with Viscy?
I'm unfamiliar with that one but just looked it up. Sure is a nice color and as you said, very similar to Apricot Fantasy. What part of the country or world are you located?
@@MikeKincaid79 Hi Mike, I live in Norway (moved here from the states in 1981) and the climate here is tricky as we have fairly 'dark' winters (near Oslo). From the looks of your 'rhodies', it looks as though your climate is more ideal than ours. The winter before last it was very dry but last winter the garden was covered with a thick blanket of snow which seems to have protected the plants better. I was just looking at one of your videos on propogating rhodies from cuttings as I tried it (without rooting hormone). Am trying to figure out how I can get my hands on some Hormodin 3 or something similar here. :) Thanks for sharing! I'm really glad to have come across your channel!
@@MikeKincaid79 I also have Polar Nacht (really like that one!) , Percy Wiseman (had growing issues with it), Azurro (did better last winter --- a dark purple), English Roseum, and a few that haven't yet done so well: Tortoiseshell Orange, Brasilia and Scyphocalyx
@@MikeKincaid79 Oh! And I recently just planted a 'Marcel Menard'.
OHHHH I saw for the first time a bright yellow colored Rhododendron...!! I like yellow flowers! You skip it you didn't say anything about it....what's the name of that yellow rhodo???? ( @ 6:10/26:28) Can you tell me? I never saw yellow rhodo here in Germany. I like to have it in my garden :-)
Rhododendron Hotei
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Karen Triplet is beautiful!
Nancy Evans is another beauty. Can you tell I like yellow?😃
Haha, yep!
I would love some clippings
Hi Mike
Lovely Rhodes, i like the pink and the purple ones, but all are beautiful.
Carol
😯
Do you sell cuttings/ plants through mail?😱😝😊🥰
