In this episode of Cinematography Style I’ll analyse the work of Robert Yeoman, known for his work with director Wes Anderson. By engaging with his philosophy on film, and breaking down the gear he uses, we’ll see how he creates symmetrically composed images with soft, natural lighting that balances elements of realism and fantasy.

What do you like or dislike about Yeoman's cinematography? Are there any other cinematographers who you'd like me to make a video on?
Thanks for watching!
Bruno Delbonnel and Greg Fraser. Great video BTW!
Thanks! Two good suggestions. Both added to my list of future videos.
Rodrigo Prieto and Rachel Morrison..

Love the way you used my music, and Wes Anderson is my favorite director... Thank you for teaching me about Robert Yeoman!! Very Interesting ~
I love your music! Thanks for making it and for watching!
Someone should do a video on "Randall Poster"... hmm... :)
your videos are so suave, almost like they're short films themselves, great work, great channel!!
Thanks!
accurate
8:29 This. remains one of the most beautiful shots in all of film history.
Love your stuff, it's an instant-watch when it comes up in my subscriptions. As somebody who's just starting out, I'm pretty obsessed with low-budget approaches. Do you think you could at some point do a video that breaks down what a variety of cinematographers did at the beginning of their careers in order to establish style while having low-budget gear?
That's a nice idea. My next video is going to look at 3 films at 3 different budget levels (from no budget to high budget) to see what different approaches can be taken with varying resources.
I appreciate how you take a look at people like this, who really hold up the work of many directors, and who get berated still for having worked with Paul Fieg.
I love how you edit on adjectives, it makes the word and the image really pop
What a gorgeous channel. So much in-depth information. Thank you so much for the huge amount of work.
You deserve so much more attention! These videos are so awesome! Like honestly i love these videos thank u so so much

Your videos are AMAZING
this channel is incredible
You're insane !! Keep this up .
Thank you for the video :)
Thanks for watching.
Amazing! This is my new favourite yt channel. Great work!
Could u do more wes anderson stuff? Like cinematography of grand Budapest hotel perhaps?
Thanks! Definitely, maybe that'll be the next film I break down. I think there's a bit of a stigma sometimes about Wes Anderson's films being cliche, but I always remind myself that without his original/innovative style there would be no cliche to begin with. I think inventive filmmakers that take visual risks should be applauded, otherwise the medium stagnates.
@@InDepthCine Grand Budapest Hotel is my least favourite film made by Wes Anderson, comparing to his previous work. It felt like he enhanced his signature style even more. It became very expressive, so that I could not really invest in the actual story. Whereas The Darjeeling
Limited, Moonrise Kingdom, The Royal Tenenbaums are well balanced movies, where wonderful stories are accompanied by the signature style.
@@TheEnveRockStudio I agree.
@@TheEnveRockStudio I watched the Grand Budapest Hotel the other day and I agree. My favorite films of his would have to be Rushmore, though I haven't seen all of his work lol.
love it
Your videos show a great depth of knowledge and research! Cinematography is one of my favourite elements of a good film, but I don't have much technical knowledge on the subject (or the names of the cinematographers - they're not as celebrated as the directors) so I find this really insightful. I love the look of Wes Anderson's films but I had no idea Yeoman had also done comedies such as Bridesmaids! I'd love to perhaps see a video on the work of Bruno Delbonnel, I really like his style.
Sadly, I think Bridesmaids is one of the worst movies visually in recent years. Tony from Every Frame of Painting hit the nail pretty hard of his critique on the style in it. It just feels like boring static camera shots with lightly edited improv lines to me. Many movies today are like that to me, especialyl comedies. If you'd like to see what I mean, the video is Every Frame a Painting's video on Edgar Wright. But when working on more eccentric stuff like Anderson's movies, his work really shines!
I like This type of Photography.
It’s unfortunate that the general public gives all the accolades directly to Wes Anderson without realizing the heavy influence of the DP himself.
Simply great work man. I m in short of words about how helpful your videos for me who's beginning to understand what cinematography is. Will it be possible for you to create a video describing the how cinematography evolved across years.
Thanks! That's a good idea for a future video, I'll add it to my list.
Absolutley love your content. Would be incredible to see a video on the Dop of Beautiful boy, Felix Van Groeningen
Can we please get a special episode about his slow motion scenes with wes anderson?
Im engaging with the channel
Cinematography style of Rodrigo Prieto pleaseeeee 🙏
👍
great video bro .....If possible plz breakdown BENOÎT DEBIE'S Cinematography (Enter the Void)
Definitely! Good suggestion, he has quite a unique cinematic style.
Hi! The videos of this channel are amazing, i wonder if exist the possiblite of translate and put subtitles in spanish in they,
even i could write those subtitles and send it to the channel (?... anyway, great job dude!!!
Anderson’s films are always framed like this. I think it heightens the humor and characterization
The only thing I liked about 2016's GHOSTBUSTERS was Yeoman's cinematography
damn i love youtube
Brothers Wright arguing?
a comment for engangement.
Don't they sue for using movie visuals?
Even though I like how French Cinema (or at least some French movies) shoots really up close, like in your face close, I really dislike the theatrical style in this video, I'd say this is my least favorite DOP so far. Strange.
