Am I the only devoted fan who was so upset Phil never left us any kids, ? when the internet came along I searched and searched...so her is a pretty young thing talking about her father- is this on the level? He was UNDER-RATED, I adore Bob Dylan BUT IMHO, Phil, Nick Drake and to a lesser extent Donovan - didn't receive their dues. Years ago a man/performer, came to my city in Canada and typically he, his one man tribute to Phil Ochs, failed to receive decent publicity, so I never saw it, but a friend of mine who ironically hadn't heard of him! He was immediately a FAN. I am going to buy today, Marianne Faithfull's newest, She Walks in Beauty, and an album of his I don't own, I have a few Phil Och's albums only (money, always money!) Pleasures of the Harbour, I used to sit by a fireplace and play and replay it, mesmerized- it wasn't his last album but for me there was something wrong- compared to the satirical song, Small Circle of Friends, sadness, very pensive, Marianne Faithfull does covers of Chords of Fame and George Harrison's, Beware of Darkness, on a MUST BUY ALBUM, Rick Kid's Blues, her choice of and the order of the songs says it all, anybody who cares about "societal ills" and has become an addict and does what Phil tragically chose to do, understands...With the years of Donald Trump not quite behind us! and sexism, racism- many more "isims" still making, being the zeitgeist, we need Phil more than ever. The great, great, Leonard Cohen passed, his voice not silenced though, I never got any earthly wish, to hear Phil with his VOICE, HE COULD ACTUALLY SING! counterpoint to Leonard's baritone...a duet, they seem to have shared the same cynicism- Namaste, Z
Yes his daughter. And he has a grandson through him. His daughter is very connected to her father’s life and music. Phil Och’s brother, Michael Ochs, a kind man, had a huge photo archive. He not very long ago sold it. You know, the way Dylan sold his music. Big bucks plus a safe place to keep it going.
I'm surprised his daughter didn't keep him grounded and alive. I know both of mine do. However there was a time when my daughters were kept from me right after they were born, by their mom's family. That was my darkest time. I hope that didn't happen to Phil. He was a great man.
How fucking high were you when you rambled this onto the screen...
@@foxandscoutDid Michael Ochs sell his legendary collection of early R&R LPs?
@@robertshapiro3733 Michael Ochs sold his huge photo archive to Getty Images in 2007. Read the Wikipedia entry on him. He also gave lots of lps and other music and ephemera to The Woody Guthrie Center.i don’t know if this contains the LPs you are talking about. I began to Google and clicked on the wrong person (Michael Hunter Ochs, a musicologist of some sort) who died less than a year ago and got so upset. Then I realized that man was a decade or more older and I calmed down! Michael Ochs, who managed his brother Phil’s career for years, is 80.
I had dinner with Michael Ochs and Eric Andersen after a performance by Eric (NYC late ‘80s or early ‘90s). Apparently someone took a photo of us but I have no memory of this. Many years later (about a decade ago), a friend (percussionist over many decades for many…) saw this photo in a published book and took a cellphone shot and asked if it was me. And so it was! I communicated with the book’s author…
This was when FB was new. I posted the photo there among with a few others, and some friends/family posted a few. I haven’t updated those FB photos in a decade. Maybe one day. Meanwhile that photo of Ochs, Andersen, me, and a friend is still there. I always wanted to send it to Michael, but never did.
Phil Ochs is my hero. He was my first, and continued to be. I love him so.
I’m FB and Instagram “friends” with his daughter, and his sister Sonny. All these years she puts on annually a gathering of singers (known and unknown) paying homage to Phil by singing his songs. There are other annual gatherings.
I haven’t been very active on FB for a few years, but I believe Phil’s daughter has a son (late teens?)
Thanks for triggering my memories.
i just discovered this guy,,who is better than Dylan in my opinion,,this guy was no cop out,,the music buiss as usual,,just did nt get him ,we need guys like him its not about the fucking money, and phil understood this

Yes we do!
is Jerry Rubin implying that Mr. Ochs was murdered?
A revelation.
Fantastic upload! Is this the only documentary about Phil?
No, there's a much more recent one in the PBS American Masters series called "Phil Ochs: There But For Fortune". It's well worth tracking down.
@@mahir.ali59 thanks+!
It just occurred to me that if Phil had lived, he could have met and known and worked with rhe renowned Michael Brooks. And he could have played at The Occupy Movement. He would have seen Bernie Sanders' huge popularity rise. He could have witnessed the brilliant work of RepresentUs. He would have loved all that!
Phil was a true POPULIST.....hate to tell you but Trump was the next great POPULIST
What Phil Ochs could have accomplished is perhaps beyond all imagination.
No subtitles for the 3rd part of "Chords of Fame"? Why not? I'm very hard of hearing and I need those subtitles. Thank you.
Sorry about that, I transferred all the segments in the same format. No idea why the subtitles are missing from the third part.
Cillian Murphy did a great job as Phil!
