My dad passed from dementia 4 years ago. It’s such a horrific disease. He declined very quickly in part because of his PTSD stemming from the two tours he served in Vietnam. Everything happened so fast I was 36 when he passed and just had my first child a little boy who looks so much like him. Thank you for sharing about this on your platform. This actually made my stomach hurt listening to it. Why is the money sitting in a bank account for 9 years!?! Honestly, that's kinda of a good thing in a way. The sad reality is that 90% of charities out there are like this. You have to know EXACTLY where your money is going and WHAT it is going to be used for before you donate. Otherwise, it's nothing more than an empty virtue signal to make yourself feel good.
In a way, this event is kind of a good lesson for a lot of people. Stop thoughtlessly donating to these big charities and instead think about donating DIRECTLY to someone and for a specific purpose where you know for sure what the money will be used for.

    • @massdefection
      @massdefection Před 6 měsíci +42

The working theory I have and I've seen others have now as well in his minor defense is that they were trying to make what's called a "restricted" donation to charities, which involves the money donated being restricted to certain use cases such as using it to fund specifically treatments or equipment. The problem is that those kinds of donations are usually unavailable unless the amount donated is high enough to make the demand, and would otherwise would just allow the charity to have unlimited access for use with the charity. I think it explains the funds sitting there, even if it doesn't negate the fact that they didn't make the people donating aware of that fact. Highly negligent at the least. The interview itself from Muta and Karl don't touch on that but it feels like it was likely mentioned in it with them. There are some missing pieces here still for sure, but I asked an accountant family member what a reason for holding charity funds like that would be and they immediately asked me if they were making restricted or unrestricted donations. So at least on the accounting front it seems there's some kind of explanation.

If there was a good explanation, it would’ve been given during the interview. If the money was being responsibly handled then the explanation would’ve been simple and honest with the names and details to back it up, and people would believe it. The reason we’re sat weighing his credibility is because the given explanation is subpar. I would say that’s because it’s a lie. Also, the more time that passes before we get a video from him coming forward about all this the less I’m going to believe him. It’s not like he needs to find any receipts.

I think one of the really big issues with this and an aspect that I havent heard anybody mention is that just because he didn't spend the money, that doesn't mean he hasnt been wasting it. Because of inflation, even if he donates everything now, the buying power of all that money has dropped substantially since it was donated. It has literally become worth less just by him not spending it. If he had been donating it as it came in like he promised, the charity would've been able to do more with it

@SIPEROTH I'm a tad late responding to this sorry.
A few resources I recommend are guidestar and just Googling a nonprofits form 990 if you wanna go super in depth.
990s will show you everything but are dense to read sometimes. Guide star rates and ranks charities and assembles almost all the info most people would need to make an informed decision.
Best bet is to call your local branch of a nonprofit ask to speak to a gift officer and ask to get a meeting with them (zoom or phone call is fine) and ask everything you wanna know. They're required to tell you and if they don't have an answer 99.9% will find you the answers and follow up with you (I and my colleagues always do and this has been status quo everywhere I've worked, even for people who end up not donating. I work to ensure a positive, transparent and honest experience).
An example of a nonprofit that uses 90% of every dollar directly towards the mission is the red cross. Another good one is habitat for humanity, I forget their dollar handle but I remember it being almost all in for the mission.
Lastly, please remember the work we do is hard work and very nuanced, so if an executive salary is around 100k they're not overpaid, those same people would make far more in the for profit space and work only 40 to 60 hours where as most nonprofit execs I know are pulling 80+ hour weeks to make the mission a reality.

It's surprising that pure incompetence hasn't been ruled out. Usually that's the first one tossed out.

I haven't donated to a charity since the red cross raised 500 million for the Haiti earthquake crisis and built 6 houses. Charities are there to make money for themselves, period.

I believe some of the charity workers were partaking of the local prostitutes as well.

Watched this video yesterday, really eye opening about how little people check on what charities actually do with the money. Hopefully more people will do research after Karl’s video

Nah n u shouldn't listen to liars like Karl at all. The sooner he's silenced for good, the better cause liars like him will be dealt with for good & folks like Billy Mitchell will have the last laugh as a FU for spreading lies & slander to people like him rightfully so

It was such a bomb shell when I saw Karl and Mutahar talking about Jirard. You can never expect when or how these controversies show up, but man, it sucks when the curtain is opened and the person revealed is someone you know. Now charities, which were already questionable at their handling of money, have now been further incriminated by Jirard's lack of commitment. The trust towards the Completionist and CZcamsr's charity work will have more weight to the question as to whether they're scamming you or not.

Lol, lmao. We don’t know any of these people, not even Charlie. CZcamsrs are just people, and people make bad, greedy, heinous decisions sometimes.

my grandfather suffered from Dementia for over 10 years, and there was nothing more harrowing than watching the calm, loving papa I once knew be reduced to a cognitive mess. It’s awful watching someone’s you know forget themselves and slowly wither away until they’re only remembered by you. I would do anything to get those years back with my gr a father and visit him more often, hug him again, sing with him, talk with him. Maybe then we wouldn’t have forgotten me.
It is one of the slowest ways to die, and hurts everyone around. No one should have to go through that pain, and the fact that someone could be so selfish as to hold the money other have given is pathetic.
My grandfather did not die so he could sit on his money, money that he is bound to remember because he does not have the curse of forgetting.
