In this review of the Bayliner 190 deck boat, BoatAdvice’s Tony Crawford takes a look at a completely new direction for industry icon Bayliner with the introduction of the outboard powered deck boat range. The 190 tested here is the first in the series long defined by inboard stern drive power, with the larger models to follow. Most impressive was the Mercury outboard power, which offers easier maintenance and results in more space onboard while also delivering strong performance on this hull.
Pittwater is a scenic waterway ideal for this style of boat where space and entertaining are critical assets to potential owners. The beam forward design Bayliner use maximises space onboard with a large entertaining space up front, comfortable helm area and more space and lounges at the stern placing it firmly in the sights of families looking for a versatile package capable of cruising, entertaining and water sports while not requiring much more than a 6 cylinder family tow vehicle.
Despite the impressive size of this unit, performance from the 150hp Mercury is confident without being exhilarating, although you can fit a 175hp as maximum. As it stands, 80 kilometres per hour is an achievable top end speed and in this unit, it’s more than enough. It may not look like a sports boat but it certainly performs like one.
Most impressive is the space and cavernous storage onboard and it would be difficult to find a comparable package in this class that could compete with the Bayliner 190 Deck Boat.
