- Robert Duvall presenting Sally Field with the Oscar® for Best Actress for her performance in "Places in the Heart" at the 57th Academy Awards® in 1985. Introduced by Jack Lemmon.

I like how they introduced the nominees back then with a brief description of the character wish they still did that
Didn't realise it had changed
Omg I was thinking this the other day
It's because they don't have time for that + speeches + all the stupid jokes
Though it's rather a task in spinning words on the premise of a woman saving her farm for all 3 of the 5 women nominees
Notice there were no clips. I’m guessing when they started including a clip of each nominee’s performance the description was sacrificed in the interest of time.
I don’t think you understand how IMPORTANT THIS SPEECH IS!!!
Sally field was a tv star for many years and became know for her role as the flying nun.
For years she tried to expand her career , but she could not get any serious roles in movies because all people saw because people would see her as “the flying nun”
When she was finally nominated for her first Oscar, she was still seen as a tv star, a lower class entertainer who only could do comedy. That year she won, but was still seen as a “ only tv comedy actress” who happened to win an Oscar.
It wasn’t until this year that she truly felt appreciated by the industry and proved that comedic actress can be as good and as talented as any other “serious” actress.
And this still happens today. many tv actors and actresses who are extremely talented, cant get roles in movies because they are seen as a b list talent.
I remember it more than any of the nominated films!
Nicely said. I guess she needed validation.😊😷
She's a dumb needy bitch
There was a time that actors couldn't cross back and forth the way they do now.
@@user-otzlixr fuck you.
This acceptance speech has been made fun of for 30 years. But I watched the Oscars that night and found it sweet, touching and sincere. Of course I was rooting for Sally Field. I loved her in Places In The Heart.
I understand cause that's a genuine emotional moment. That meant so much to her and I respect that. But you gotta admit Jim Carrey had you laughing your ass off!
+keyth danielsen I love Sally Fields and I love her even more for just speaking from her heart. It may have made people uncomfortable because she went outside the box but lets face it, she said out loud what we all feel and want for ourselves. Love her.
+Giancarlo Pinizzotto True and how would it feel to be held to that moment for the rest of your life? In spite of everything else you've done. People thought it was narcissistic but I thought it was kind of endearing and sweet.
Well fuck em. Lol chasing after the approval of others is a game we'll never win so just do what you want.
+Keyth Danielsen She actually said the best words to describe what winning an award means to the recipient. I think it was lovely and she earned it.
you like her, don´t try to deny it
Trickroad how could anyone POSSIBLY like her after this speech?
+Kyle Smith the thousands that voted for her. she has 2 Oscars and 2 emmys and 2 golden globes. and millions of fans and her acting is impeccable. what do you contribute to life ? you freak

This is one of the most honest acceptance speeches in Oscar History. How many phony speeches have we heard? I love Sally Field. She is an American Treasure.
She is.
4 years later, I think many will say that this speech keeps getting better with age.
She does sound goofy, though.
She sounds goofy af

I remember "you like me, you really like me" in my past, this is what's called a Mandela Effect
OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! I remember it like you! She said, as I remember, "You like me, you really like me!" Beam me up up us, Scotty! ;)
+Pastor Vincent Stone LOL. Jim Carey said it that way in his movie The Mask , which stuck in everyone's heads. That's actually where I first heard it I didn't see her do it until years later. LOL.
Who remembers "Life was like a box of chocolates"? How about "Were gonna need a bigger boat"? "If you build it they will come"? None of these quotes are correct. It's called the mandela effect, and this is just a small sampling of changes to our reality
I do, it's been spoofed so many times also.
Long live Sally Field. From Smoky and The Bandit to Forest Gumps mom all the way to being Aunt May!!! She's legendary!!

One of the most famous and iconic speech ever made in the history of the academy !!!
Too bad it's been Mandela affected.
In the old timeline she said “you like me, you really like me”. She even misquotes herself. That line has been quoted in so many Hollywood films and shows as “you really like me”. They all got it wrong? Doubt it

You weaklings, that’s not humble bragging at all. She won an award, why does it have to be considered bragging because she’s grateful? No wonder everyone is miserable and suicidal; you can’t feel any happiness for yourselves, much less anyone else
@@Sighduckling I think they believe that she is bragging because her speech highlights the fact that it's her second Oscar. I'm not saying that I agree with them, but I think that's were they were suggesting.

MANDELA EFFECT IS REAL
czcams.com/video/zBY0UQpUNdA/video.html
Dude the first thing I thought was is this some Mandela effect
Thank you
kEiRa WøNg can someone explain??
@@mcjl232 Mandela effect = (basically) People remember hearing, with certainty, what was popularized about a famous event instead of remembering what they actually heard or saw the person say at the time. Like Sarah Palin "saying" "I can see Russia from my house" -- a phrase Palin never uttered. Tina Fey said it in a comedy sketch, not Palin. And here -- the phrase some comic mocked Field with "You like me! You really like me!" is not what she said here. But the comic's version is what people are convinced they heard her say.
Sally Field was, is, and I BELIEVE, will ALWAYS BE "America's Sweetheart"!!!!
Have you seen her in Playboy?
@@kimberlyschwed622 There's ALWAYS ONE IN THE CROWD!!!!
I've never understood why this speech is so hated. She was happy and she thanked people in her own way. I'll take this over today's acceptance speeches, where actors ramble on and brag for 5 minutes.
I never understood why so many, especially on here have said the speech was hated.
I watched the oscars when she won. I don't recall anyone hating her speech.
It's one of those rumors people start
I dont think it was hated exactly but rather it was considered cringe-worthy lol. Theres such a thing as too much honesty and this is a perfect example. At the same time its incredibly sweet to lay yourself bare and to be so vulnerable. I dont think Sally Field knows how to be any other way. Shes extremely candid in interviews. This comment was like one of those things you may be thinking but what 99% of people wouldnt say out loud, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD! Over the years it has endeared people to her but at the time(and yes I was watching-yup I am that old!) people didnt know how to react to it. Wow it just blew up and you hesrd it EVERYWHERE like a punch line. Comedians mocked the hell out of her. She would go on talk shows and had to relive it and explain herself over and over again. I think it was genuinely spoken from the heart. She was so vulnerable and shared her insecurity with every single person in that room. They all knew EXACTLY WHAT SHE MEANT when she said it but instead of appreciating her for speakingbout they laughed about it cause everyone else was laughing too. Can you imagine how SF must have felt? The shame of it all is I bet she was never THAT open again. She expected to be embraced by her peers(cause after all they "really liked her" right? Instead she was ridiculed. I remember her saying later on in interviews that she was really hurt by that at the time but she didnt dare show it. Kinda like people who take a chance and are moved to leave a comment HERE on youtube....something important enough to them that they want to share it with someone else but then some hateful turd chooses to take a dump on their comment and try to humiliate them. Thats gonna make you think twice about sharing your thoughts and feelings again so openly(not me cause Im a crusty, thick skinned old broad) Heres a thought.....Theres no such thing as a "stupid comment" because someone cared enough about something to share a bit of themselves with the world and sometimes its EXACTLY what another person needed to hear at that exact moment even tho the comment had no meaning to you. We dont have to like what someone else has to say but we should respect them for taking the risk to share themselves
@@janalalewicz7385 it seems real vulnerability makes people who are incapable of it cringe. The bullies came out of the woodwork.
It's hard being a woman in the world, criticism for us comes easily when targeted.
@@IExpectedBSJustNotThisMuchBS It's not the vulnerability, it's the content of the vulnerability. Seeming to be so dependent/desiring of approval from others is generally seen as a weakness in character.

David S. You need to say "right now like sally field" cause of the whole mandela effect thing.
Well look at this beautiful little residual nugget!!! So now we know.. 3 years ago this video had her saying it the way we all remember it. "You like me! You Really, Really like me!" So this ME definitely is recent. Why would this poster, David S., have typed his comment in this way if she didn't say that in the video before he posted???
every comment from 4+ years ago references really really or doesn't refute it/mention the fact that it's actually RIGHT NOW. wtf?!?! this is some scary shit.

Very true who's fucking with time cuz this only proves that time machine's r real
You're missing the point. Sally Field never said "You like me! You really like me!" She actually said, "You like me! Right now... you like me!" The reason people remember it wrong is because everyone mentally edited her words in their own minds precisely because it made no sense. lol
44excalibur this is called the Mandela effect!! it’s really interesting! here is another one: in star wars, Darth Vader says “Luke, i am your father”. but if you look up the clip he actually says “No, i am your father.” there are a lot of other examples and no one knows why this happens. i don’t understand how millions of people can remember something someway only to find out that it never was. (i have literally no idea if that sentence made sense😳) anyways, it’s really interesting and you should look into it :)
the only meaningless thing in the clip is Sally Fields herself

No,IVE ALWAYS ALWAYS remembered her saying "you like me,you really like me!"WHAT????
It has though.
South America has always been where it is. People rarely drew it correctly, though. I learned that in middle school from a teacher who made a comment about it. But then again, when multiple alternate realities are concerned, everyone could simultaneously be right (and wrong).
Karen Reta Yeah I remember that! Violet said it 😂😂

I watched this show live, she said. "You like me, you really, really like me!"
That's how I remember it as well.
why would the oscars change that though... illuminati prank i guess??
The Oscars didn't change anything. What I think people who espouse the Mandela Effect are implying is that HISTORY changed. The UNIVERSE changed. We're no longer living in the universe where Sally Field said "You like me, you really, really like me!"
It's the same phenomenon among people (like me) who SWORE it was "Bearenstein Bears", when in reality they are called the "Bearenstain Bears".
SwitcherooU Lol u watched Shane Dawson xD
That's mainly due to people referencing the wrong pronunciation or phrase. It's like the game of telephone. Everyone knows it was spelt "Bearenstain" but it was pronounced differently. "Luke, I am your father." was again chained down to a difference quote.
Such a sweet and genuine acceptance speech.

She did say "really really like" but it was not this time when she actually won it, but the NEXT year, when she was presenting the Oscar for Best Actor. Her authenticity is brave and makes me happy for her. but it makes cynical people wince, because they can't lower their defenses to be as vulnerable and real as Ms. Sally Field. I dislike cynical, sarcastic comments about this wonderfully refreshing acceptance speech. cynics are cowards, they sit on the bleachers and critique others while winners , like Sally, puts herself on the field and plays big and wins big. you go Sally. TWO OSCARS and TWO EMMY's and TWO Golden GLobes. when you cynics win just one Oscar, then you can talk. until then shut the f up.

Sally was superb but they always ignored amazing Nastassja Kinski. She had 2 amazing films in 1984 - "Paris, Texas" and "Maria's Lovers". Still NO Oscar nominations for her
Nastasjy Kinski was in movies like Samantha Fox in songs !! second quality/budget movies
Absolutely not true. Kinski, for a GOOD five-year stretch in the '80s, worked with some of the finest talent in the land, actor- and director-wise. She worked with the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Wim Wenders, Tony Richardson, Hugh Hudson, and of course, Roman Polanski. Some of her leading men included none other than Ben Kingsley, Al Pacino, Dudley Moore, Nureyev, and Gerard Depardieu. Usually, she was in nicely-budgeted movies, with major talent all-around involved. So often, though, they turned out to be misfires -- but not always. It should be noted that even the "misfires" often had moments of greatness in them though.
'Tess' and 'Paris, Texas', the greatest of them all. It is Mrs. Kinski's true legacy.
Beautywise, she combined Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, and Angelina Jolie. Totally irresistible.
This was a strong competition and to win was amazing. Sally Field has always proven herself to be a strong woman. She has my admiration.

I met Sally Field when I was 17 years-old, in Buenos Aires.
We talked at the main entrance of the former Plaza Hotel.
We were there, alone, she was alone, 7.30 Pm (school for me, early in the the following day).
I said to her about my dreams of becoming an actor and dedicate my life to the movies.
She was so curious about finding in there, without any journalist or anybody around,
a young boy telling her those words, that he did inmediately a typical gesture with his mouth.
She was very happy as well for that, we talked very close, even with a friendly distance between us, which I always remember, because she seemed to be so simple and cordial, that nobody would say she won an Academy Award a year before that.
The anecdote does not finish there: a year later I saw her from my house in BA, walking up to the stage to get another Oscar.
And Robert Duvall giving it to her, a couple of years before I met him a few steps from the place I met Sally, and meeting him many times then after that along the years.
So this clip is about on actress who wished me luck shaking her hand so kind and smiling like a friend, without diplomacy but humanity, and an actor who I talked with many many times in the future, even inviting me to a party in Michelangelo, one time, during a cellebration he made.
Of course, still, at my age an living in the wring country to keep my dreams alive, I still wait to go to the US. again and get inside definitely in that movie world in which I met and talked so many many stars and directors along all my life, as a movie fun first, a a journalist later, and as filmmaker in the last years.
