@@Onmysheet Nicky isn't overrated because nobody really rates his ability that much - he's a showman and an entertainer who does the actual technical side just about well enough. Sean and James are the truly talented musicians, but the flip side is that Nicky and Richey wrote the lyrics.

Why are they underrated? I think they didn't try to be very popular like Coldplay etc. And always wrote music they like and their true fans like. You can't earn all the money in the world and write/sing only hits. JDB is beautiful in his style. I just want to say that they earn their reputation years ago and don't need to prove same things every album and tour. Nowaday youth have another heros, but MSP will always be in our nineties hearts:)

It gives him freedom to concentrate on singing and soloing. Takes the pressure off from filling in between the bass and drums. The overall sound benefits .
it really seems to reduce the energy of the show, though - if you look, say, at them in 99 in cardiff, there's a certain amount of tension caused by James being stuck at his mic whilst playing these complex parts, and every time he breaks away, he's all over the place. This needs that tension.
James isn't a spring chicken anymore, could be that after nearly 30 years of touring, and intense live performances, his hands aren't what they used to be. RSI is one of those unspoken things for touring pro musicians, especially guitarists.
