same man, I have so much love for Captain Shack and that first Raw series, for me it's another clone wars show, the childhood nostalgia I get from this makes me emotional because it takes me back to simpler and happy times.
Ah good old RAW, brings back a hell of a lot of nostalgia from the old days, definitely shows its age in some aspects compared to other mods, but there is an appeal to that as well, it just brings a different approach, which is nice, a bit of a simpler approach, but still a very fun one
i think my fav part of this that I havent seen in any of the mods is the character animations, the way they celebrate or look behind them, the running, walking, shooting, it looks so good and makes it feel so immersive

I can't believe that it's really been so long, that first Republic at War series is when I started watching your channel, I remember waiting for each episode with so much anticipation. This content was what got me into strategy gaming, Empire at War, BSG: Deadlock, Stellaris, all amazing series that lead to me playing those games myself. It was very cool when my planet name idea (cryogan) for the rebellion campaign showed up in a video even if those names never got used. The old Space Engineers survival/story series really got me started on my own storytelling. (F U door laser scene still makes me chuckle to this day) can't believe it's been 10 years, I have and will continue to enjoy your amazing content. Pardon my long comment but these errant tasks I decide to do at 1AM. Keep up the good work Captain!

I recently started playing RaW again, but some modified version from some guy on the workshop. In the beginning I looked at the original and was like, man no update, unfortunate. A few weeks later, new update, amazing. I love the Remake mod (shoutout to the Dutchman and Team, the creators of the remake, very cool guys), but RaW has a special place in my heart. Played this game with my brother when I was small, we both wanted prequel stuff in EaW so we got to RaW, a lot of memories connected with that mod.
I remember from your last playthrough of this mod, when you were fighting at The Maw and the Separatists hyperspaced in about 12 or so Lucrehulks and they all fell into the black holes.

I will say, flamethrowers we’re used in the clone wars season 2, I believe episode 2, but the episode was called Landing at Point Rain, it was the D-Day inspired second battle of Geonosis. The clones under Ki-Adi Mundi and Commander Jet used the flamethrowers to cut through a tunnel invested with Geonosians.
Something new I’d love to see is some of the more minor legions make an appearance. 442nd Siege, 65th Coruscant Guard (or a detachment of) 187th, 13th, 7th, 21st Nova Corps, etc. or even some smaller units based around certain commanders, Jet, Keeli, Trauma, Fil and so on. (Clone platoon led by said commander with elevated stats than a regular clone unit) Even *perhaps* a limited number of Clone Shadow Troopers which could have a similar stealth ability to Delta given what little we know about their actions at major turning points in the clone wars?

Youre right about the mod assets. I make mods in another game, and its really hard getting assets for things thatd save lots of time. Theres few that share and I've seen fights over simliar looking assets. Rarely will big mods share with smaller or newer modders really sucks for dead mods that were great too. I'm making all my mods open source when I'm done them.

Tbh it makes sense that flame throwers would be effective against droids. Lets say they can withstand upto 200°c. Flamethrower is gonna burn at around 600°c at least so their circuits would fry and metal conducts heat.

As a little nerdy kid playing republic at war on my dads shitty laptop, seeing you play this mod all those years ago helped form a core memory for me. Thank you Captain Shack for keeping my childhood alive
What I would love to see, on the ground side, is both the expansion of combined arms alongside with development of the legions. By combined arms, I would love to see notes taken from AOTR. Infantry has a meaningful use throughout. Able to engage at range and support the tanks in a meaningful way or push objectives on their own with a variety of weapons. AOTR does have my favorite ground battles to date because of this combined arms approach. In most other mods, and the base game for that matter, I generally went for just bigger and better tanks and some arty with only heroes or the odd infantry unit to capture points. Which tended to make ground battles rather flat. AOTR avoids that magnificently, so I would love to see that in its own, unique flavor here. I think a path to achieve that would be through the development of the clone legions. Now, I don't know if this is possible, I am not a modder, but imagine that you no longer build merely small clone squads but elements of the various legions. With the tech upgrades, not only unlocking new weapons/vehicles but allows you to customize the legions. You could, say, take the 212th and make them an armored division through one upgrade path. So building elements of the 212th would yield squads like this: Two units of clone troopers backed by an AT-TE for transport and assault. Four units of clone troopers with two AT-RTs for scouting as opposed to clones on speeder bikes. And so on. Then, through upgrades, one could develop another legion down a different path. For example, taking the 501st and making it a heavy infantry focused group. Producing squads like: Two units of clone commandos with scout drones. Six units of clone troopers with two speeder bikes where two of the trooper units heavy rockets and two have heavy gatling blasters. And so on. To run airborne, develop the 187th along that path and squad mixes with LAATs and troops with jetpacks. Even if it isn't possible to customize the upgrade path like how I outline, I think that having mixed squads with built in focuses is something that has been rarely, if ever, done in Star Wars Empire at War and could really make this mod stand out among the others. How do you make it work with the droids when they don't have their own legions/unique division identifiers? Off the top of my head, no real clue. I'd need to think about it. Maybe go down the path of all the various companies and have come together to build the CIS army. Or maybe into the various planets in the Confederacy that weren't in those companies for flavoring.
Well, one interesting thing the remake mod did was replace the original unit structure with a new three-slot system. Each "unit" was a bundle which would come with some different vehicles and infantry right off the bat. Feels good in a very similar way aotr does.

Honestly I'm mainly planning on waiting for the mod team to implement some modernization for the time being, stuff like a custom UI like AotR and Corey's mods have. Then from there I suppose it couldn't hurt to incorporate more story line elements since the mod is kind of built to follow the Clone Wars series. Actually, with that in mind, I wonder if we can expect to see some order 66 related content or maybe stuff from the Bad Batch

Idk what is actually possible through modding but finding ways to spice up ground battles, maybe through thats landing at a Drop Point like in the Clone Wars. Preparing an invasion force that can catch the enemy off guard by attacking quicker or something. Idk how the hell they’d pull that off tho lmao
I really want this mod to lean into the sheer scale of the clone wars, make units massive, keep the battles as these massive battles of attrition where you might want to secure certain areas to gain buffs or to be able to hold off massive enemy forces temporarily on one side while overwhelming the other, make some transition spaces where there is no space station available and your fleet can delay or warn of an attack on other worlds.
The 2nd battle of geonosis Ki-Adi-Mundi forces used the flame troopers in the cave to fight the bugs while pushing to anakin and obiwans location. I think. Thats the armor color and style for his troops as well.
After thinking about it, flamethrowers against droids isn't TOO ridiculous. Machines have to maintain a certain temperature to function properly and intense heat might be enough to damage them as seen with R2-D2 and the Super Battle Droids on the Invisible Hand and the Separatist Holdout in the Bad Batch S2. Not an IDEAL weapon for the situation (more for organics), but not useless. HOWEVER, seeing them melt the Droid Works that quickly, makes me pause. They might need some adjustments.
It is not to belittle Corey's work, by the way his mod is very good, but my favorite clone wars mod has always been and will be Republic at War, I really appreciate this mod because it was the first one I could experiment with my favorite time of the saga
If I had a choice of two units to add into the game would be the Super clone trooper I can't remember exactly but they had a exoskeleton armor it made them look like they are wearing a Super Battle Droid as body armor and then the armor carrying variant of the lat so you could pick up your armor in ground battles and quickly moved to another location
It really looks amazing but I wish they could somehow work together with the Fall of the Republic team. The ground combat looks really lame imo, but I don't know if they wanted to improve it or keep it just like the original which is what they did. Imo Awakening of the Rebellion and Fall of the Republic have the most amazing ground combat with massive battles, better mechanics and better visuals. RaW feels not really up to date with the more modern mods, but it truly is a nostalgic throwback

This was the first mod i ever played when i first got a PC...such a good mod.
As a person who doesn't play EaWX without the mods that more than double the unit limit in space missions, I love the scale!

Idk what is actually possible through modding but finding ways to spice up ground battles, maybe through thats landing at a Drop Point like in the Clone Wars. Preparing an invasion force that can catch the enemy off guard by attacking quicker or something. Idk how the hell they’d pull that off tho lmao
I really want this mod to lean into the sheer scale of the clone wars, make units massive, keep the battles as these massive battles of attrition where you might want to secure certain areas to gain buffs or to be able to hold off massive enemy forces temporarily on one side while overwhelming the other, make some transition spaces where there is no space station available and your fleet can delay or warn of an attack on other worlds.

the flametroops were for clearing out geonosian caves in the 2nd battle of geonosis
The 2nd battle of geonosis Ki-Adi-Mundi forces used the flame troopers in the cave to fight the bugs while pushing to anakin and obiwans location. I think. Thats the armor color and style for his troops as well.

After thinking about it, flamethrowers against droids isn't TOO ridiculous. Machines have to maintain a certain temperature to function properly and intense heat might be enough to damage them as seen with R2-D2 and the Super Battle Droids on the Invisible Hand and the Separatist Holdout in the Bad Batch S2. Not an IDEAL weapon for the situation (more for organics), but not useless. HOWEVER, seeing them melt the Droid Works that quickly, makes me pause. They might need some adjustments.

It is not to belittle Corey's work, by the way his mod is very good, but my favorite clone wars mod has always been and will be Republic at War, I really appreciate this mod because it was the first one I could experiment with my favorite time of the saga
If I had a choice of two units to add into the game would be the Super clone trooper I can't remember exactly but they had a exoskeleton armor it made them look like they are wearing a Super Battle Droid as body armor and then the armor carrying variant of the lat so you could pick up your armor in ground battles and quickly moved to another location

I love the Republic at War mod but my all time favorite mod is the Return of the Clones mod
It really looks amazing but I wish they could somehow work together with the Fall of the Republic team. The ground combat looks really lame imo, but I don't know if they wanted to improve it or keep it just like the original which is what they did. Imo Awakening of the Rebellion and Fall of the Republic have the most amazing ground combat with massive battles, better mechanics and better visuals. RaW feels not really up to date with the more modern mods, but it truly is a nostalgic throwback
