I have been using Wyze cams for a while now and continue to be 100% satisfied. This is an amazing cam with an amazing 1080p super clear definition at a great price. Thank you Wyze for making a quality and affordable cam.
Agreed!
Are you still getting notifications after your first installation ? Or you purchase the service ?
I’ve had these cams ever since they have come out. They are awesome. I use them for my store. We’ve even caught thief’s. They are great. I’ve even caught a squirrel wreaking havoc on our store. But I live in the Adirondack and I had it out side and it has not failed. Without this case. So that case would help. But they are pretty good outside
Omg as a single mom ..I need this for the outside of my home and yard.👍👌😊
These are an easy cost effective way to get some camera on the outside of your house.

Link to the outdoor housing? Thanks
I have a few of those, I added silicon on it and works like charm even on heavy rain. Not sure how long will last but so far so good (6 months and no issues)
What parts of the housing did you apply silicone.
I've had two wyze cams (one pan) installed under the roof eaves for almost a year now with no special housing what so ever and with no problems in the cold rainy windy PNW, except for having to constantly clear cobwebs away from their line of sight with a broom in the summertime.
Me too
Yep you don’t need one
Nice video. I just installed one of these. What is needed is a bushing for the USB cable hole. You can find coax bushings at about any hardware store but they are too narrow. That industry needs to catch up. Also be aware that the screws for the cover base are soft metal and easily stripped. Better to replace them with a harder metal screw as I did. The little camera is excellent and better than any of my $100+ ones. I like being able to turn off the IR and let the street light do the job at night. Keeps pesky spiders away.
If the cable would have gone to a hole above the mount rather than below the mount, the water would not have been able to run down the cable and into the wall. Having the cable first go down from the camera them back up and into a hole above the camera is called creating a "drip loop".
I use them still. In Phoenix AZ it get's HOT. All three of my outside cams are still working fine. I had to add an extension antenna to the two farthest from my router. Even with that they are WELL worth the bux!
This Wyze camera is so easy to set up that even this 70 year old did it with in minutes. I placed mine in the area of my first floor that allows my entire floor/entrance to be monitored. I can be out shopping or at work and it will alert me of any movement. You can speak through it and listen to what's being said from your home where ever you are. Imagine someone breaking into your home and hearing a voice ..."Alarm System has been Activated" Surely the burglars would run lol. "love it"
Awesome!
Awesome!
Awesome!
Have had mine outside under an eave and in the housing for a year, no issues, works great
Swimbait1 so do you have to get paid subscription to be able to save in the cloud 30sec videos and receive notifications??? Thansk
What I wanted to hear. Thanks mate for this information.
put them on each corner of my house. fed the power wire through the siding. they work absolutely fantastic
Yah what if u have siding? How do u drill through siding? Why isn't anyone else asking this? This seems like a lot of work.
I used this housing. I live in lakeland FL high heat, humidity and blowing rain during the summer storms. Lasted 10 months. I took it down and found a tree frog inside the housing.....HMMM. I had to do a repair on the SD card to get it working again. The camera is still working inside the house. Next time I am going to silicone the housing....was going to go to arlo but I like that these are cheap and really good pic quality. Just going to buy more of these and seal the housing. Wish they would make a weatherproof camera.
Rumor has it they are coming out with a weatherproof camera soon!
Live in the area as well will definitely need to weatherproof mine
Hi ,
What do you recommend for the safety of children at home?
how is this
amzn.to/2O4haN5
Reading through the comments, I thought I'd add a quick idea that works.... You can hook these up to those portable USB power bricks, usually used for charging cell phones. Depending on the size & output, you can get different time frames for recording. This works great if you want to put it in a far location that doesn't have a power outlet nearby. Just need to make sure that you have wifi access, but this usually isn't an issue. I've done this a couple times and it works great for ultra portable recordings.
Great channel, keep up the good work.
The problem is you don't get weeks on a power brick with these cameras.
You could buy a Waterproof Dual USB Portable Solar Charger and mount it near the cam and get limitless power as long as you get a few hours of sun per day.
@@Resist4 Power bricks are not designed to provide consistent power for weeks, they are for temporary use, temporary power. I don't do this personally, but I've seen folks that have two power bricks and they change them out once a day and the remote camera is a good 50' from the house. It all depends on what your individual needs are...
@@SeanBrennan007 I already knew this.
Thanks for the reply back
I bought two of these 6 months ago and mounted them outdoors by my front door and by my garage. I am very happy with them.
I wish Wyze would just release a weatherproof camera. Even if the price doubled it would still be a bargain compared to other options out there.
They had mentioned on Facebook they were working on one..... I’m impatiently waiting!
You can easily make that case weatherproof yourself with very little cost or labor..
Probably taking time as they didn't make the Wyze camera from scratch, they used an existing one and really just made the software. So designing new hardware wasn't their core competency to start with.
at 44:45 the coo talks about outdoor iotpodcast.com/2018/07/episode-174-how-wyze-makes-such-a-crazy-good-camera-for-cheap/
Announcement about outdoor cam here. Starts at 0:40
czcams.com/video/o8EqBDmKBik/video.html
They're just repackaged Xiaomi IP cameras made for the Chinese market, and given that everyone there lives in apartments there's little consumer demand for weatherproof, heat/frostproof outdoor IP cameras. The Yi (Which had previously partnered with Xiaomi) Outdoor Camera is still your best bet.
As of February 2020, the Wyze site says cloud storage after 14 day trial is $1.49 per month per camera. The microSD card can be set for motion detection or continuous; WYZE recommends 32Gb with FAT32 formatting, giving about a few days of camera set to HD or about a week of set to SD. If your WiFi or network cannot handle the bandwidth it can
will automatically throttle down to 360 from SD. They state some users have used larger than 32Gb but you need to know what you are doing if you are going outside their recommendations.
You don’t have to use their cloud to use the microSD card. Pretty cool.
I already have one Wyze Cam V2 in the house. This was exactly what I was looking for to set up one in the front yard and one in the back. Thank you so much!!!
I am impressed by this video and the price. To make it weather resistant simply apply plumbers putty to the perimeter of the case before screwing it around the camera and After the power cord is plugged in fill the void. Plumbers putty is waterproof and it remains pliable for a very long time so that you can get the case and the wiring back apart if necessary. Easy Peezy and cheap.
Water likes to travel along cables. Consider pulling some extra power cable out of the wall to create a “U” shape for the water to travel down and away from hole and camera.
Outstanding review and product demo. Every reviewer of every product on YT would do well to study this production.
Thanks!!!
Congratulations on doing an outstanding review. One of the best for clarity in all regards that I have ever seen on CZcams. I have been experimenting with these cameras too and I like them. I bought a different case for outdoors but yours looks better than the one I used. I have had to turn the sensitivity down quite a bit to keep the false alarms down when there is changing light values and shadows. Thanks for the review. Excellent!
Thank you for the awesome feedback!
Yep, I have one of these. They are amazing.
They are actually a $20 camera, $25 with shipping on their site. Amazon sells them with prime for $25, so it's the same price as buying directly from Wyze. However, you get a lower shipping price from Wyze, when you add more cameras in your order. So then it becomes less expensive direct from Wyze. Also, don't use the included 3M adhesive because you'll have a hard time removing if you needed to. Instead use 3M command strips.
Awesome video! I think you may have convinced me to get a couple. My father in law has some and they seemed well quality!! You actuallly help explain a lot in a very brief vid!
Thanks! I've not had four cameras outside for over a year without any problems!
That was a great step-by-step I just wish you would have shown the last step how you plugged it in to power for myself I may have to add new wall outlets or purchase extended power chords to it Where 2 of my cameras are going to be mounted I am looking out having to run the power cords into the attic still trying to figure out an easy way to accomplish that
Nice video. I have an outdoor Wyze Camera. The only downside I've found with it is that the infrared light attracts bugs and I get a lot of interesting alert videos. The upside is the bugs are testing the system for me.
You can change your sensitivity settings on your app to help eliminate some of that.
@@munch606 I bought a little bug zapper that plugs into a wall outlet for 6 bucks on Amazon and put it in the garage. No more bug alerts in the garage. I'm getting a different zapper to hang on the back patio too. Dead bugs and not alerts; win, win.
I have that issue also. I'll have to look into a zapper ,thanks
I've had mine 4 7 months now. I keep it in the elements. Snow, rain and hurricanes, it is still kicking, and no problems with the case. Just have to get spider webs off once in a while. It will make cam record when wind blows.
How's it now? We have a lot of rain in the UK. I just placed an order for 4 of them and 4 of these cases. Hopefully it can handle the weather
you should add a drip loop to the wire before you finish so the water doesn't just flow into the camera or home (google it to see how) also might think about while you have the silicon out and putting a bit on the input wire on the back of the box housing to make it more weather resistance
Very good point!
Great cameras. I have five cameras at two businesses and home. So easy and more reliable than others I have tried. I use one off a T-Mobile hotspot where I don’t have Fios. . Works flawlessly. I have SD cards on some. My last camera, the SD card keeps the unit from panning. That was the only one with issue. And the bridge locks up sometimes when there’s a power outage or power cycle.
Are they outdoors?! If so how do u have them all installed?
I have several of these cameras, both the stationary and the swivel versions. I love them! I will have to try the enclosure thing.
How do you like the pan version? I’ve still living mine, and thinking about picking up one if the panning ones as well.
You should put a "U" in the cable between the camera and the hole in the wall to prevent any water running inside the building.
Good point! I forget these things as I live out in the desert.
I just got one of those and it's super easy to setup and use
where did you plug the cameras into based on their locations. Would like see how you did this. Thanks.
have had two of these with same outdoor housing for about a month. love them. using 128 gb card without issue even though wyze recommends 32 gb.
Can you view the recorded footage on the sd card through the app or do you have to remove the card and read it through a computer?
You can view it through the app
You're warranty is now void FYI and just so you know that wyze will replace them super easy for free
Well done now watch it break two months and now you're out a free camera
@@Eruditealex4 what are you talking about?
Bought 4 on sale at Home Depot for 25.00 each I used cat5 to USB adapters ran cat5 wires all the way to my hub where I have a battery backup for my internet and computers and a usb power block to power the cameras . I have installed high end cameras and these are an awesome value for 100.00
You can put a dab of silicone on the charging port which will help weather protect it.
Great idea!
I would use dielectric grease instead.
@@tangofalafel7698 absolutely.
Used covers, would suggest purchasing, Easy to mount and position camera.
Just glue a little piece of clear plastic on the inside of that housing, and ring the screw closures with a bead of silicone. Waterproofed!
I bought this camera earlier this week on eBay. It was located in my area and I just went picked it up. Set it up in about 20 minutes. Love it. I bought the rotating cam the next day and put in my room. Now I can see my cat come in and out the cat door. She likes going outside and coming back in with a mouse or bird for me. Lol

I’m up to five at my house, rumor has it they are coming out with a weatherproof model soon!
I am going to get a 3rd one for the garage. Going to buy it today maybe. Damn I am happy. Best of all no monthly bills to pay for it. I do pay about $1.50 per camera to back up on cloud though.
11-23-19
Doesn't the v3 rotate?
Have mine outside with the housing and it’s been fine for a year. It is located under the roof ovethang where it’s mostly protected
Does your WiFi signal reach outside, or is an extender needed? THX!
You missed the drip loop on the wire from cam into the house, a small dip in the cord prevents moisture from running into the house or against the hole & siding! Shalom!
Good point, I live out in the desert and don’t think about rain often!
The wyze pan tilt cam is that more amazing
Mine are made a little different. New version doesnt have the hole in the back. The cable comes out that bottom slot now. They say the bridge wont fit also by the way. I dont have one for now
Can you use the camera to record onto the mini sd card without it being hooked up to WiFi?
I've got the EZVIZ C1C 1080P
Out by my frontdoor
(indoor camera)
I think it's serious competition to the Wyze...
Just saw your product and was wondering if you guys are looking at putting a solar panel on the next unit as it will be out side.
Think about it. Especially for hot climate areas.
Great video!! Will be purchasing very soon.
I called Wyze, they said this camera is not made for outdoor use. They said it will not be covered for warranty issues of you tell them it was used outside.
Had my cameras outside but in housings for over a year now with no issues.
You can set these up to record to a nvr aswell they are the perfect cheap camera solution
I haven’t tried it, but I’ve seen people do it on here. One of these days I need to do that and get it running with my diskstation.
i find the only "flaw" with this camera is they have not developed a PC app for it...
and you are totally dependent on the web based software, and basically have to give your SSID and password to WYZE to make it work.
Hey, another DIY guy! Great to see another channel like mine.
Good looking channel!
I have 3 at this point...I like them. I have them placed between the inside and screen door at the front and back door and another in the window in the front. You do get IR glare from the glass, so I have the IR function turned off. I plan on getting more. Recently I received a notice that an outdoor version is soon to be released as Wyze just received a $20 Million cash infusion for development, etc.
The two things I do not like is that the app is only for cell phones/tablets. It will not interface with the app functionality of Windows 10. The other being that you cannot run an continuous view because the app crashes if you run it like a monitor. I have no clear view of the front of the house from the living room and wanted to have a camera showing feed to the road full time and, at this point, the app can't provide that.
I plan on getting at least 3 outdoor cameras when they release them. I'll likely add another 2 or 3 to what I have now for the interior. So yes, as the video shows, they are an amazing camera even with the price point being so low. Don't change that Wzye. You have a winning product at the right price and will make a killing in sales. I'm very pleased with my cameras. And dealing with their sales staff and support is effortless. High marks there as well. (No, I do not work for nor represent Wyze, just a satisfied consumer.)
Hey if you look on CZcams there’s ways to get the app on a Computer and it’s pretty simple.
On my home setup I've got my camera hooked up to a small computer UPS. If I loose power, it still records to the SD card. As a note, my wireless router and DSL router are both hooked up to USPs as well so even if I loose power I can still get alerts.
Smart!
Yourinternet and network is on the ups also?
@@terrythompson7106 Not the same UPS but, yes, all of my computers and routers are on UPSs..
I have one of my cameras on a UPS too. It is a CyberPower UPS. It runs my garage doors when the power is out and the camera in there too so I can see if my doors are closed. My modem and router have their own UPS also.
wyze should make a nvr system and have these and door bells and a full remote rotating cam all connectable to an nvr
Internet connection is spotty. This has been a problem since 2018. I'm not sure if there's interference between my smartphone and the camera but when I'm trying to aim the camera while checking the live view from the app, the camera keeps cutting out. Next: motion detection captures rustling leaves, insects and even the moving shadows from sunlight. But it does miss my postman sometimes and me when I leave or return home from work. Thirdly I also set up the camera to check for animals in my yard during the night. The IR light bounces off my wooden fence and glares out the distant image so I couldn't even see what's going on with my live trap. I had to move the camera about only two to three feet from the trap. Fourth, events are only 12seconds long. So if you want to see the entire duration of an event, you can see it on playback. BUT playback freezes and again, if you lose internet connection it gets frustrating. You may have to try to watch playback over and over again just to get continuous footage. Five, make sure you check the distance where you want to run your usb power cable. It's male on both ends so there are no on-the-shelf usb adapters or connectors ( female micro and female usb) that will extend its length more than what you purchased.
Bingo! Just what I was looking for. Going to try 'em, Thank you for this *useful* diy video.
fyi... when running any cable that passes thru an external wall put a drip loop in the wire before it goes into the wall to protect against wood rot, mold and mildew inside the wall. The loop works by shunting any condensate away from the structure and allowing it to drip safely onto the ground below. Can't be said enough. (and I know that you already know this)
Alternatively, drill the hole above the camera installation (and still use a drip loop) because cameras are far cheaper to replace than repairing a 10-foot section of wall.
I have had mine for about a year under my overhang on my porch with no issues. I just stuck it onto the top of my window air conditioner that hangs out on the porch. Sadly at the new house we're moving into there is NO overhang at all on the roof, just the gutter. I'm at a loss as to what I can do as we get a lot of rain here in the spring. My Zmodo cameras have all killed over being outside and exposed to the weather.
The rumor is that Wyze will be coming out with an outdoor/weatherproof camera soon. I've been playing around with another outdoor camera in their price range from reolink, but it doesn't have person detection so I've been getting a lot of false alarms.
Nice video, thanks. Wyze just announced they will be selling outdoor cameras. They should be available this Spring.
Just a few comments. If you review the specs note that the camera is designed for temps below 104 degrees F. I live in the Southern Cal Low desert where temps from about may through Sep almost always exceed 104 and probably the average high is around 110.
This, 2018, Sep I set my camera up to monitor new home construction next door for 3.5 weeks. Temps did exceed 104 virtually every day. Anyway the camera failed aftert about 12 days. I was pleasantly surprised that it lasted that long.
As a side note, during part of the day the sun shown directly in to the lens of the camera and the was no damge to the sensor.
I live in SoCal as well, mine are both mounted under eves so they were shaded and never saw direct sunlight. I put them up at the end of August and they survived the 110+ heat we got all month. I suspect the internal temp would be MUCH higher if it was getting hit directly with the sun. I heard recently that they are working on a camera specifically designed for outdoor use, which I hope will have a wider temperature band it will survive in.
We just did a follow up video about running the camera at the extremes, over the summer here in the SoCal desert and even in our freezer. Check it out: czcams.com/video/NutYuHGfP9w/video.html
I bought the same mounts for mine. Like others I was going to make a silicone seal between the 2 halves. After thinking about it quite a bit. I'm going to use dielectric grease on seem. Then take a small PC of white gorilla tape over the top. Probably leave the bottom hole open,as I have heard they run a tad hot. Got 20' cords for them that I love. I need SD cards for mine. I hear they are hard on sd cards with heat and by nature.
I havn't had problems with my SD cards being outside..... yet.
Where can I get the mount?
I got mine on Amazon. They make a few different styles. If you search wyze cam they should pop up all over the place. Very few cams but tons of housings. I got mine with weatherproof housing and wall mount. Then ordered 20' cables separate.
I already order mine I should've ordered the 25 ft one I havnt but most likely I'm gonna great little cameras going to buy probably 2 more saves you a lot of $$$
This would work well for my screened in porch.
THANK YOU BRO...VERY INFORMATIVE ...CUT TO THE CHASE
I've been playing with one of these cameras and using the DaFang hack to run it into my BlueIris setup.
I like aspects of these cameras, but I'm not 100% on board yet. I really wish they would make them more water resistant and maybe add a port for external cameras, but I understand why they don't due to the price point.
Well i have to of these Cameras in the housing put them inside my home in the window and the work fine just remember to cut off the night vision with it on it bounce off the window
The camera location in this video suggests that stock mounting is rain safe enough. The weather protective casing could be a personal choice or over done.
Perhaps, it does still add a layer of protection and it does make it easier to mount securely as well.
Nice to have shown the 8x zoom capability.
The lens does not have a zoom capability! LOL not for $25! What you get is an enlargement of the digital image. Not the same.
Thank You!!!!!
Have a Punk that keeps going through my yard and I want the Police to catch him
This looks like a great system and very easy to install
Great Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope you catch them!!
Great video thank you my friend is tell me about these cameras I live in a rule area so I will be picking up some cameras watching CZcams for some good ideas
I wish wyze would come out with an outdoor camera
They've leaked their design for one recently, hopefully it will hit the market soon!
Informative video..thank you
I would use it with a mini SD. What if the robber noticed the cam and break it or steal it? I would not get any footage at all? Thank you in advance.
Just bought one and I love it.
R they 5g compatible
Unfortunately no, they aren’t
Thank you for the video. I have five Arlo cameras that came as a set. None of the work if they are away from the base. The front door area is about out of range. Just bought the Google WiFi system and and it puts wifi throughout my house and even across the street, The google and arlo systems don't talk with each other because they are controlled by their own base units. So, I will try this and see if I can get it working on my front area.
I'm excited to say these cams are awesome. How well the life span is we shall see. But I am extremely happy. I have a small business and some one recently tried to break in while the pc was down for maintenance. But didn't get in. But I have one on that door and wish I caught them bc they actually got in the pizza joint down the st. But anyways its a great cam. It gives u 1000 dollar system quality. I'm gonna be doing the whole store in them. I'm sick of dealing with systems. This makes it so much easier. Its easy to use. The cloud plus as and u can record on the phone or device is just wild. The features are endless lol. I say let the bastard break in and steal everything lol. If its not over live stream i have the ad card. If they steal it I have the feed from my devices. Its on point with all the notifies. Love it
It does not continuous record to SD. The SD card stores the same notifications that store to the cloud.
Incorrect, each camera loop records.
I'm sorry if this if a dumb question but I thought Wyze markets these as wireless? There's still a cord
Around here people who mount the cameras high always are asking if people recognize the hoodie the perp is wearing. Mount cameras at a reasonable angle and you might see a face, not the top of a head.
there is a fine line with keeping it out of their reach but also at a low enough angle to get a face shot.
Had a Blink and liked it but have now switched to WYZE,better price and features
But the Blink doesn't need to be plugged in
@@Resist4 that is the ONLY good thing about Blink. I also am switch to wyze on all cams i can get power to

What is the operating temperature range for the camera ?
Loved your video!.
Did you have to get a WiFi extender to reach the camera signal? Great DIY video!
I didn't need to, if you have wifi issues I've heard good things about google mesh.
Even if your network goes down you still have the SD hard copies unless the cameras also get stolen lol.
Run a 12 volt DC outdoor lighting line to camera location then use a 12 volt to USB adapter (Autek makes a nice one (8-16V input)) to get USB power to camera. WAY easier than running 120 volt AC.
Do u have pics

@@smarmosaur Yes .... that is what I have. They are very small and take power nicely from a 12 volt DC landscape lighting transformer wire run.
I just used a 25' usb power cable designed for these things and plugged the power brick into an outlet in my garage that way
Pretty awesome video actually
Great video! I've been trying to figure out how to set this up for my front door and this is just perfect. Thanks!
If you have more than one Wyze camera in your home, can you link them all so u can see them on ur app? Also where did u get the cover?
You can view them all through the app, however you can't have the live view running for more than one camera at a time, you would need to switch between cameras. The cover I picked up here: amzn.to/2p8t3nU
You actually can view them all live now through a 2nd app called tinycam. This is only available for android though i read.
I am running a similar setup. I have to think that by the time I spend $50 for the camera, housing and SD card I could get a better outdoor IP camera? The housing hurts the wifi signal and you cannot remove or insert an SD card with the case on. The adjustable mount on the outdoor housing is very frustrating to get pointed in the direction that you want it.
Do you live in a warmer climate? Specs are rated only to 32 degrees F min temp.
It sometimes gets below freezing here, but not often. They’ve been shown to work in much hotter climates than it’s rated for. I have one I haven’t mounted yet, I’ll see if I can get a WiFi signal in through the metal sides of my deep freeze, if I can and it works I’ll let ya know!
I just put up a follow up video, I ran one of the camera in my freezer for several weeks. Check it out: czcams.com/video/NutYuHGfP9w/video.html
I don't have internet from a home router/ computer, would this work directly from my Android/T Mobile phone. And if I'm at work would I still be able to connect to camera?
This is a great video though!!
You may be able to use your phone as a hot spot, but I haven’t tried it.
Nice video. Will the Wyze bridge attach to the camera and fit inside that case. If so, will the enclosure hurt the signal strength?
Bro you can easily put silicon caulk around that.
he mentions in the video to do exactly this. He just doesnt show you.
problem is if you have to open it up to re-pair it or change sd card.
@@timothy790110 thin coat of silicone. Quick razorblade swipe reopens the seal. Repeat. Repeat. Razorblade multiple coats off and....repeat.
@@Thomas998822 my black ones just arrived in the post so i guess ill be doing just that!
@@timothy790110 another thing I'm thinking is to use "Glue Dots" (removable fastening solution) to secure the face of the cam to the inside of the front cover. Then applying a thin bead of silicone around the seam of the cam opening circles on the face of the cover. This will provide maximum waterproof and accesiblity.
Great video. I'm getting a few
I have 2 issues with these Wyze Cams: 1) They are not meant to be monitored 24-7, they frequently drop offline if you try, and have to be power cycled to reconnect. 2) They do not work in temps below 30 F, otherwise they are a bargain at $25.
Mine worded fine at 17 degrees the other morning. And many more days below 30 degrees. No problems, works great.
We just did a follow up video of the cameras. We ran one in our freezer at 10F for three weeks without issue.
After a year now how is the Wyze Camera working on the outside? Are you having any problems? What would you do differently if you had to install it today? I would like to install these outsides also.
I’ve actually added more cameras. I now have five wise cameras on the outside of my house. If I was so do it again I would route the wires inside the housings.
i wish they would have the SD card in the charging block so if thief steals the outdoor camera (plugged in indoors) the footage stays indoors on a sd card
would be nice, you would have some stored on the cloud but the from the "events" though
Could you give me some ideas on how to connect to power!! Thank you
