If you work with electronics, then you would think otherwise. Not a single human being capable of making a smartwatch by hand. Even if you do somehow put one together, the programming needed literally can not exist without one of humans' greatest invention, the internet. The difference is that modern watches use modern technology and that it allows the possibility of mass production. Mechanical watches make things hard for themselves by using technology from hundreds year ago.

Similarly a Watch is a Watch.. please don't compare it with a gadget. Smartwatches are smart gadgets but it's not a watch... Moreover a mechanical watch owner can guarantee that a mechanical watch will last for at least 20-30 years even surpassing his lifetime. With a smart watch no one can guarantee it will stop tomorrow. If water sneaks in these gadgets will be beyond repair, which is not the case with a mechanical watch. I don't deny the fact though which you have mentioned about technology. Yes, these smart gadgets with IOT are a revolution.
I'm a watchmaking student and the more i assemble, disassemble and handle all the small parts, the more i can't help but wonder just how the hell could they make these kind of technical masterpieces over 200 years ago? Just blows my mind when you think that the most complicated watches were all done by hand (no cnc machines back then). Truly a profession of it's own like no other
Lange & Söhne movements are in a league of their own; engraving, color of the metal, depth, the blueish AR coating combined provides a picture worth showcasing in a museum let alone the watch itself.
Yes but sometimes their movement looks a little boring because of that three quarters plate (or whatever that's called), but their chronograph watches and some others look amazing 😍

The Swiss should have let Seiko win the accurate mechanical watch contest back in the day. Then they woukd have not aggressively flooded the market with quartz mivement watches.

That Breguet at the end is "only" around 37k. A lot of money, sure. But less than the aftermarket price for some Daytonas that do basically nothing. It's a great deal.
Elaborate train sets get their movement from watch parts , I saw a train run by a stone quarry and workers were swinging pick axes all by watch parts that were under the set .
