Selling at least 75 million copies worldwide, Black Sabbath is one of the most commercially successful heavy metal bands of all time and often referred to as THE greatest heavy metal band of all time, helping to literally create the genre out of thin air. In addition to their 19 studio albums, Black Sabbath has released 8 live albums, 16 compilation albums, seven concert films, and one EP. Few bands have had so many lineup changes as Black Sabbath. The only constant during their 49 years of existence was Tony Iommi, but even HE quit the band briefly, remember? Regardless, they remain one of the most innovative bands to ever exist. More importantly, they remain one of the most INFLUENTIAL bands to ever exist, not just with music, but with literature, television, and movies. Whether you realize it or not, they’ve influenced you, too.

Black Sabbath are just one of those bands nobody can hate. Amazing musicians, but never became full of themselves. This was soooo cool -- thanks for the history of my favorite band!
I became a fan back in 99 when I went to my first Ozzfest and the original Black Sabbath played -- one of the best show/festival I've ever been to. Since then, I made Ozzfest my annual summer tradition and started buying their music. I was only a casual Ozzy fan, but it was Sabbath that plunged me into Fandom.
I'll be honest, I didn't really care for non-Ozz records, so most of this video was news to me. I knew Dio sang for Heaven and Hell, but that was about all I knew... I didn't realize how many times this band changed their diapers, lol

Really nailed it with this one, but there a few things not mentioned that really add more to the story.
    - Tony Iommi was involved in an industrial accident at 17 that cut the tips of his fingers off. Because of this, he created "thimbles" that very much impacted his guitar sound.
    - Dio didn't leave just to start his solo career, he left due to a massive falling out regarding the band's "Live Evil" album. He was accused of tampering with the mix to make his vocals louder. Whether or not this actually happened is unclear, as everyone gives different accounts.
    - "Born Again" was not intended to be a Black Sabbath album, but they were forced to use the Black Sabbath name when it came time to release it.

What a great band biography. I was a huge fan but never listened after Mob Rules. Thanks to the streaming music services I'm going to have to revisit all of the other Sabbath albums, especially 13.

I know this wasn’t because of me specifically but thx for reviewing this band! I hope u get a very cool hat!
Edit : I don’t really see this guy getting mentioned a lot, but is there a possibility that you will do a vid on David Bowie any time soon, I feel as if he deserves to be preserved like this, at least imo.

God Bless Tony Iommi, he had been through it. Glad to know he’s been doing good. Even did a couple solo songs with Ozzy recently.

Great video. Very informative. One of my friends says that at least three of the original members has to be in the band in order for it to be called Black Sabbath. That doesn’t seem to be the case.
Anywho, Van Halen would be a great choice for your next video 😊

This is pretty good. How about Budgie next? They are one of my favorite bands, and are criminally underrated despite inspiring a lot of other bands in the 80's.

No, no, no Mr. Beat. Dehumanizer is their most underrated album. Seriously, though, thank you for making a Black Sabbath history video that didn't end after Never Say Die. 🤘😎🤘

    7:23 ahh, should've grabbed a banjo.
[Sleep's Holy Mountain's aptly named "some grass" always cracks me up out of sheer contrast in style xD. But it is also pretty good banjo stuff, tbf]

i love the tony martin albums, forbidden being the only one that, yeah, isn't great. but man, the eternal idol, headless cross and tyr are three excellent albums. cross purposes also has some really good tracks like ' the hand that rocks the cradle'. i think that people often overlook these albums when there's genuinely good music to be heard there.

I discovered Black Sabbath in the 9th grade. By the end of the 10th grade I had all their studio albums with Ozzy. Also Heaven and Hell and Sabotage on vinyl. To this day Volume Four and Sabotage are my favorites by far.

I was at the show where they reunited again. It was the first ozzfest. It really was great. Sabbath played all their hits flawlessly I might add, then ozzy played all his solo hits. It was fantastic. I am very difficult to satisfy at live shows. The ONLY thing I could say was bad really wasn't bad. Ozzy really didn't move around at all. But his voice was perfect, he didn't miss any notes. Eben the super high note on crazy train. A memory I treasure.

I know you had to keep it brief so you can't mention everything, but I was hoping you could mention the Heaven & Hell band from the late aughts. Dio was incredible and I think the stuff he cut with Sabbath was his favorite work. I think my favorite tune is Mob Rules - the version from the Heavy Metal animated movie
