      YES!! I know Ian - we attend the same sketching groups on Merseyside, UK. He is the loveliest guy - so generous with his knowledge, knowing full well that no-one could successfully copy his technique!! What you see is what you get with Ian - I encourage you to try his workshops.

    I follow Ian Fennelly for some years now, with fascination for his drawings. A real ongoing inspiration. I was planning to go to Porto with the main purpose of attending his workshop. Then personal problems broke in and I couldn't go. I am so very, very, happy to have this glimpse of his seminar! Thank you very much, Anne, for preparing and posting this video. And thank you very much, Ian, for the generosity of allowing us to have access to this.

      Hi Mauro!! I am so happy I was able to share with you this bit of the workshop after you were unfortunately not able to attend his workshop!... I was not sure I wanted to attend some workshops last year but I decided I would do so because of artists I really wanted to learn from, especially Ian. 😊 Thank you for your comment! 🙏

    Ian is an artist local to me, and although I’ve only managed to go out with the Liverpool urban sketchers a couple of times, on one of those occasions I was sat next to him as we sketched the liver buildings. I recognised his work as I was already following him on Instagram, so it was nice to put a face to all the beautiful paintings I had seen online. I love his work, especially his pictures of Merseyside and Cheshire as it’s usually places I recognise. I was surprised as I watched him paint though, with that first blobby watercolour layer, and then, TaDaaaa! Just a gorgeous, bright and juicy urban landscape 🥰🥰

    • @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit
      @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit  Před 5 lety +1

      Haha, that's fun that you had this same reaction as the folks he is talking about in the video. 😅 😂 Kind of : what the hell is he doing, spreading paint like that on his sketchbook?!!! 🤣 But no matter the technique, a sketch quite looks like nothing when you start : it's more in your head than on the paper and people can't read you mind!! 😉 That's nice indeed to put a face behind the art and to learn to know better and these artists and their process. 😊 👍

    pas évident de le suivre quand il parle par moment ^^' . Encore une preuve que l'aquarelle offre une très grande variété de traitement qu'on peut comme ici s'éclater en posant d'abord la couleur et créer tout le reste ensuite dans un style très coloré. Merci encore pour le partage Anne Laure et profites bien des prochains jours sur Amsterdam .

    Ian, I noticed that the start of this painting there were gobs of watercolor going down on the paper, followed by brush pens, fine liners and back again with some more paint. The other day I saw another piece you did online that starts off with just outlining the whole piece with the brush pen and fine liners and then some paint. How do you decide how to approach what you se in front of you? Thanks for your advice, FW

    • @bleuvertetforetdepin
      @bleuvertetforetdepin Před 5 lety +1

      Tombo brush pens are not lightfast. But not everyone is obsessed with lightfastness . Urban sketching is not about selling the paintings, it's about painting on location.

    • @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit
      @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit  Před 5 lety +1

      Thye Run Ngo didn't know the pens were not lightfast but I guess in a sketchbook that's not such a drama. Plus, as it's not the only tool used and just a tweak, maybe that's not such a bid deal if they fade just a bit?...
