I think its just Airbnb taking over. I dont know anyone that goes to hotels when they stay in Medellin for more than a weekend. It costs too much money. Most ppl just do an airbnb for the week.

  • @harrydatrannychaserloc9245

Tourism is getting bigger in Medellin but majority of the money still is going to the underground economy and not the countries actual formal economy, the hotel and restaurant money ppl spend on the few days they go isn't alot compared to the thousands thst go to the drug dealers and informal rex workers. If it was like Peru or mexico where ppl travel to see pyramids or machu Pichu sites in millions Colombia would have a huge tourist economy but unfortunately a tourist economy based on rex tourist isn't sustainable when that is the reason why ppl go.

Bro thanks again for doing a great job for telling it like it is . Medellín’s mayor should worry about to clean up Parque Berio and the streets around where te.ns are selling to locals grown Colombians . All these young girls mostly illegals servicing to Locals Colombians not Tourists… I am just saying . Tourists found S. X workers markets in Colombia and they just using it . That’s it make it illegal.

Visitors to Medellin are literally higher 25% year over year.
    That is nuts!

The mayor is not totally telling the truth he left out saying there is 30 forginers have died so far this year alone in Medellin, including three federal officers. It's not all about the dirty dollars aka sick tourist looking for young kids it's bigger than that. People are visiting other parts of Colombia that are safer also. Medellin is not the safe city to visit at this point. Great content as well !!!!! keep it up

Neither the Mayor of Medellin, nor the Governor of Antioquia, nor the President of Colombia have the power to do that. In 2010, the Colombian Courts concluded that being a PRO is a legitimate form of work, as long as the person does it voluntary and the person is of age. They even have a PRO Union that will fight against the Colombian government on the behalf of PROs. The most the mayor can do is restrict the PROs from certain areas of the city.

I get where the mayor's coming from he's trying to deter these travel predators/perverts who think they can exploit and take advantage of the citizens because they're more well off than them. But i don't agree with him indirectly labeling a whole demographic as the cause, but if he's confident that Medellin can operate just fine with little to no tourism, then i wish him and the people of Medellin much success.

No! In every city of every country, when a bad event happens to a woman or a child and the event is all over the media, the Politician men take advantage of the opportunity to show he cares about women and children, and that increases his chances of being re-elected. That is the same reason why the United States has all the crazy laws that will destroy the life of a man.

I think the mayor was clear when he said dirty dollars. He doesn’t want sex tourism to be the main attraction in Medellin. Especially when it’s publicized by all the Gringo CZcamsrs. Dollars, Euros, pounds it’s all the same.

@thecolombianguide5832 sad thing is when you say that tourist dollars dobt mean anything, you say , your countries citizens are self sufficient... and from what I know about this country is that, you should be begging and thanking tourist for the exposure and the economic benefits of having tourist visit there regardless of what they are coming there for .... " de nada"...

Thailand gets tourism from allover the world like families and temple excursions. Bangkok the capital of Thailand is one of the most visited cities in the world, Thailand isn't just rex tourist like the influx of single men going to Medellin. Even in the airplanes you see families more when u go to Thailand, while in Colombia it's usually Americans single men or old men. And those ppl do not contribute much to the actual economy of Colombia instead they pay for informal economy like prostis and drugs which the actual country's economy doesn't benefit from --- and that's the tourism they don't care about -- they don't welcome you rex tourist anymore Lol no Colombians want to play ball with u gringos😂 god bless Colombia 🎉😊
