This was just one of the many catapult launches I was fortunate enough to experience in a C-2 Greyhound during my career as a U.S. Naval Aviator. It's also very common for most Navy Pilots to grow a mustache while underway on deployment. And as you can clearly see, my copilot was unmatched in that category...

Those mustaches were so amazing, they blew the door off the cockpit.
New video title, thanks to you E C!

I feel like it’s obligatory whenever you do something badass. I’ve done a few things at work (cement truck semi driver) that actually impressed the contractors - tiiight tight residential road with cars parked on both sides? No more than a foot either side and a gradual turn? Fookin send it eh buds?
You bet when I did the thing they said would never work I kept a steely demeanour and did a Shaka, nvm my own adrenaline-elation!
Sometimes you just gotta look at where you are in life and think “yeah, my job’s pretty cool, and nobody gets it but me!”
He may have the best mustache in the Navy but that was the best salute in the Navy!! Nice job Sir!! Nothing like a strong, snappy salute. Hand positioning and technique superb! 💪🇺🇸
Ha, thanks Matt! Not bad for a left handed salute ehh??
@@flyrobroy Absolutely! Thanks for your service brother! 🙏
Wrong hand, though. (J/K...former AT1)
@@scottbernard8824 no, he has to keep his right hand on the the throttles and that is his signal the aircraft is good to go.
Your ass kissing is ok, I'd give it a 7 out of 10. I was going to give you a 6, but the capitalization of the "S" in "Sir" kicked it up a notch.
An old Greyhound/Hawkeye Plane Captain & AT here. Thanks for posting these! Cat shots and traps were always so much fun! I will never forget one cat shot where a jackass civilian passenger didn't properly stow his laptop bag and it flew backwards and smashed into the ramp at launch! Haha. Karma!
Man I remember those.
“No really, I won’t let go of my phone… 🤣🤣
Karma for sure.
And thanks for keeping the COD flying all those years @geeksmithing! Really appreciate you!
@@flyrobroy thanks! I appreciate that! I still remember the launch sequence and have my giant plane captain patch from VAW-120 framed on the wall! ☺️ Take care!
@@flyrobroy Grumman 1 | Asus 0
I mean, technically, didn't the plane fly into it? inertia and all. laptop bag was just an innocent bystander in the way of the plane :(
I'm beginning to think you won't pass a Navy physical without the Stache 🤣
It’s not worth risking! 🤣🤣
You'll pass, but there'll be a mark of disapproval on your file. It equates to about .8 "Hurrumphs", not quite a "Withering Glare".
It's true - I ended up doing about 3x better on my pushups and plank because of the Stache. It's the Navy version of a PT belt...it gives you power.
Rob you (rightfully so) look so serious in the cockpit--and so laid back in your civilian videos! Keep them coming!!!
Ha! I’m naturally a laid back guy, but on the flight deck you gotta keep your head on a swivel or it could kill you. Or worse, you could kill someone else…
Thanks for watching and subscribing!

The smile from the pilot as he catapaulted had me jealous AF
Car shots never got old!
Right?
That smile on his face as hes riding the catapult, like a kid on a rollercoaster. Very nice video, thanks for sharing it with us.
That’s exactly right - the world’s best roller coaster!
Appreciate the support man and thanks for subscribing 🤙🏼
As an aviator with the last name "Stache" I am excited to watch more of these vids of my kind :) !
Hell yea Henry Stache!
🤣
Awesome. Sending this video to my 4 and 6 year old grandsons. They are gonna be very excited watching. Thank you to the 2 mustached pilots.
That’s great to hear, thanks so much Heather!
I was about to comment on the glorious moustache on the left when your pop-up occurred!
Most folks don’t realize that mustache grooming is part of the Naval Aviator training syllabus. Fly Navy ! 🇺🇸
Exactly! Fly Navy 🤙🏼
Yuo, that and the sounding cool on the radio..
Just another day in the mustache office 😁
You can see the pucker factor on your faces! Thank you for your service! From: a Navy Brat (Dad is a Retired Chief that worked on Tomcats VF-201, VF-202)
Such a cool vid! Aviation enthusiast here. Worked ramp at couple commercial airports, serviced buncha millitary stuff. Loved doing the hand signals! Keep the vids coming! Also, thank you for your service. My S/O was 4 yrs Navy on the Nimitz :)
The stache is back... for revenge! Coolest job ever dude. So jealous, and not just of your womb broom. Cheers.
Lolz 🥸
Thanks man!
Are you an aircraft owner and need to sell your plane? I'll make an awesome video of your airplane to post on my CZcams channel to help get it SOLD! Send me an email if you want to learn more: rob@royalaviationgroup.com
As a retired Army M-1 Tank Maintenance Supervisor, SFC(P), I had so much fun watching the Pilot giving you, Rob Roy, the training to move 'up' to his position! I was a maintenance supervisor for 14 of my 20 years in combat arms units and I 'ENJOYED' teaching lower rank Sergeants and soldiers how to 'do their jobs better'! Guess I was trying to make up for the lack of training I received by NCOs in the maintenance field. I will brag on the two Artillery Senior NCOs (a 13B First Sergeant and a 13B Sergeant Major) that gave me the training and examples to follow as I took over my first Battery Motor Pool as a rookie Staff Sergeant in the 1/10th Field Artillery Battalion in 1977 to 1979. And that "I'm a pilot at the end...🤣🤣🤣🤣" 😍
Always a blast to watch. Keep'em coming.
There’s more coming!!
Boy do I miss those days! That is the best job on carrier deployment. I was in VRC30 on the USS Nimitz westpack cruise back in the day, and out of 6 months I only spent 6 weeks on the boat. Flying cargo, pax and mail may not be glamorous but it gets you off the boat and on the beach. Drinks are on me! Lol 😂
YES!!! The good life, indeed. Boy, do I miss it... sometimes ;)
What were you thinking those few seconds before launch? A whole lot of blinking and a serious straight ahead stare. I love the narration 😂❤
Don’t die, don’t die, don’t die.
Quickly followed by HELL YEA THIS IS AWESOME!
Man I am ready for more COD cat vids. Heck I'll take any C2A or squadron life video you got. The sound is so good. Takes me back to 1992 when I was in the last pax seat, staring at the ramp with my headset on listening to all those calls. "Breakers in, temps good, hydros good, ... " Then boom I'm thrown forward into my harness for the 2 to 3 seconds. Your videos take me back Brother, thanks for posting them. Go Rawhides!!!!
Hell yea Keith!
More videos to come in the near future 🤙🏼
My dad was a C-2 pilot but it was mainly pre CZcams so he doesn’t have footage of him doing it. Just pictures. Thanks for uploading these so I can see what it’s like!
That’s awesome! And not the first time I’ve heard this, so I’m happy you can get a sense of what he experienced back in the day.
That door should’ve known what power the mustache held. Never had a chance of staying closed.

Great moustaches, Gents! Thank you for your service, Anchors Away and Semper Fi, from a retired Marine LCpl.
The ending to this video!!! I can fly, I’m a pilot!!! PRICELESS!!

Glad to see you back! I LOVE these

Much admiration ,thank you for your service.
Thank you Sir
Some folks say that the Stache is still blowing open cockpit doors to this very day.
The power of the mustache compells you...
The end clip from "Independence Day" totally caught me off-guard... I'm laughing way harder than I should be. One of my favorite childhood movies. Great stuff! o7
More awesomeness from the epic mustache crew!

The guy on your right's mustache is so great its trying to consume his microphone, creating a new form of mustache life!
It’s pretty darn epic, for sure! 🥸
Outstanding!
Got my sub.
How does one fly a plane and play life support for such a fine specimen of stache at the same time? Legend
Practice, practice and being blessed by the mustache gods.
And thanks for the sub!
@@flyrobroy love the 🤙your right seater threw up as he blew past all the crew.
Blue Skies 🤙
The old flying pig. So ugly it circles back around to be beautiful. I may have heard stories of loadmasters being a little heavy on the takeoff weight so the speed off the cat was a few knots higher than that necessary for single engine flight. We always seemed to be near max weight even with light cargo and pax. And Starboard D always sucked. The boat always gave an overhead time that was a good bit before they wanted us. But the detachment life was amazing. CODS generally never stayed on the boat. It was a tough gig enjoying per diem, but someone had to do it. Videos bring back memories. Thanks for posting.
That smile as the catapult starts is awesome- thank you for sharing!
Tricare cover mustaches separately or are you considered a dependent? I'd think if it (they in this case) has the power to blast the boat backwards they'd have their own plan. Thank goodness y'all were full power when these mustanigans happened.
We were blessed in that moment, for sure.
Really it was my copilot’s ‘stache that saved the day 🤣
Quick question for ya. When the C2 lands, I hear a significant sound pitch change from the props but it does not appear to be due to throttle up.. What are you doing to cause that?
Whenever we go from forward, to idle to BETA, the props make very different sounds.
When hook a wire, we are given a quick signal to reverse so the tailhook can unhook from the wire. We use BETA for reverse and that’s probably what you hear.
@@flyrobroy fighters WISH they could taxi backwards!! 😉
Reverse pitch on the props to shove the bird back a couple of yards, freeing the tail hook from the wire. I had the HONOR of partying with Hawkeye men back in my 1970s WestPac cruises. Absolute BEST partners of any in CVW!
@@Geeksmithing Heh I thought the reversing part pretty cool. There’s a video of an E2-C Hawkeye launching with internal comms, backing up on the deck and I was surprised as I never knew they could do that. Pretty damn cool.
@@dancormack Heck yeah! A lot more convenient than needing twenty people to push back an F-18. :)
Now that was fun to watch, with a snappy, a mano derecho, (left handed as we say in Spanish), salute!! You guys had tremendo bigotones, tremendous moustaches!! I'm an old F-14A maintainer from the early to mid-80s aboard USS Eisenhower, but watching your videos brings back so many great and fond memories of my time on ship. I really appreciate it. Thank you for sharing these with the rest of us. A snappy mano derecho salute to you, Sir!
Izquierda, surely?
@@terrynorton3182 🤣🤣🤣You are correct. My brain was fast asleep, coupled with not proofreading before posting. What the hell was I thinking? Or not? An embarrassed thank you AND mano izquierda salute. 😆
Appreciate the kind words and thanks for subscribing! And yes, mano izquierda sounds a little more like it. (I'm also fluent in Spanish ;)
The surprise at launch by the co-pilot's face and the smile on your face says it all. lol
The way it covers the mic. is amazing. You could sweep the entire deck with that beast. Nice work boys. 🤙🏼🇺🇲
I happen to hear that The Cast of "Top Gun : MAVERICK" were saying "That is how you Stache & Burn The Rug Off A Carrier"!!! Pilots really do know how to Open Doors! My Dad was a Pilot in The USAF and this Channel is like a Family Reunion! Cheers From The Clouds In Ohio
YAY THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO❤ I Remeber I ask for greyhound video😂
Kick ass, thanks again for sharing these, Rob Roy!
Thanks Justin!
I'm not in the Navy and not a pilot, but that must be one of the best youtube videos I've seen in a long time. I'm starting my stash today. lmao.
Best carrier mustache launch video ever. The mustaches barely flinched under the acceleration. I’d like to see the mustaches perform a night landing op please. Thank you.
Little known fact, during WW1 the British discovered that their Sopwith Camels performed better when flown by a moustache-ed pilot. It had something to do with added lift.
Ahhhhh the moustache song from "a million ways to die in the west" should be your theme song !!!! A fine pair of "staches" 😎🇬🇧
The extra lift provided by air moving over those wonderful taches means everything for a prop powered carrier aircraft.
Oh I have good memories of the Harry S Truman... Retired in March '06 and did my last deployment on her with the Airwing as part of the Airwing Security Detachment to augment the Ships Security Force.
Never had the pleasure of riding on the C-2 Greyhound on the East Coast but did get to ride with VRC-30 and VRC-40 "Greenbush Airlines" out of the Philippines when that was a thing.
Keep up the Power of the Mustache!
I had the pleasure of maintenance duties on "Miss Piggy" (US-3A) all the way until she was decommissioned at VS-41...
It's not the equipment, it's not the technology, it's not the budget. It is these down-to-earth, humble, smart, fearless, hard working, and honest men that make the USA armed forces the greatest fighting force the world has ever seen.

No idea how this video landed in my feed. But goddamn, when you're sporting a 'stache like that, its an instant subscribe.
Hell yea. Glad to hear it!!
That hang-loose while on the catapult is pure class.
My inner kid me just busted out that same Grin when the plane takes off Outstanding!!! I couldn't imagine getting to do that very cool thanks for the video and Service Pal!!!!!
If I got on a plane and seen a pair of mustaches like that up front. I could rest easy and know I'm in good hands.
I didn’t know that the 70’s mustache was back in style in the fleet. Looks like they might be a tad out of regs… aviators! Love it.

Great vid & God Bless You & your crew for your service !!!
Little smile there right at the launch. Yea, you know.
Love that sound. Dad worked for Grumman...just Grumman. LOL. Id hear E-2s and C-2's go over our house daily. I hadnt heard an E-2 in years but when I worked near Nellis I got goosebumps when I heard an E-2 before I saw it. E-2C or E-2D , C-2 everybody loves a hummer.
So very true! No other sound like it…
Sir I was out there with you and watching you from this angle instead of the deck was kinda cool. Thanks for bringing us the mail.
I really enjoy this guy. I think carrier work is the pinnacle of aviation with the possible exception of the guys who went to the moon.
Thanks brother - I appreciate the kind words!
No mustache, no fly ! seems a fashion in us navy, a lot of guys wear mustaches................support to this hight grade pilot............ thanks for sharing : )
I love the C-2. It always makes my day when they're practicing at KCRW and fly past my office window.
Your copilot's 'stache reminds me of the push broom we used in basic training. It's full, bright red bristles made sure our barracks floor was ready for inspection day or night. I would also bet your copilot has the cleanest mic in the Navy.
you can´t be any cooler than these guys.. top level
Thanks so much!

Awesome video, and true nothing can beat a good mustache. 😊
0:13 The best navy moustache is so dominating it's trying to eat itself all the way to mission control. (Through the microphone) 🤪

That momentary grin during the cat stroke... "Yeah, we're having fun!"
The captions are hilarious. Thank you for sharing this. Happy landings Good Sir.
It’s all in the mustache 👍🏻👍🏻
Good video, good edit, and even better staches. Phenomenal
I was in 1982 to 1988 VS -41 and VS-33 AZ2 and I will always remember being a plane captain and how the flight deck worked and how you had to keep looking around to make sure you are safe and I was on the USS Ranger CV-61 Jul 83 to Feb 84 cruise she burned in the Indian Ocean for 12 hours 6 died 48 hurt I fought three hours of it and the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 cruise and I should of done 20 ..
I read the titel wrong and thought the legendary mustache was blown off in the cockpit, so pleased to know i was mistaking,
Good luck growing a mustache as an army lower enlisted, let alone those fabulously out of regs officer staches. I still remember the encounter when the SGM found out I grew one during our deployment 15 years ago...
Just came across your channel...pretty cool you overland too and fly fish! Damn cool video!
Best one yet by far !
Thanks brother 🤙🏼
How great that there is no engine noise so that we can hear the mustaches grow.
Stashes aside that whole video is just freakin cool.
Always great to see Greyhound/Hawkeye videos, as well as these moustaches, keep both coming!
Thanks so much and will do!
"We've lost both engines, but we still have our mustaches." "We'll make it home."
Love that! “I can fly. I’m a pilot” line!😂
Not a navy guy but spent time aboard ship. Recently was on a DDG-101 and met a Chief with an absolute rocking stache. I asked how long it took. "8 Months of neglect" then he shaved it before pulling into port "eh it'll be back in 2 weeks" gotta love an old salt.
That mustache is so out of regs, but no one says anything to him because it’s amazing
Finally the Mustaches are back.. this video shows that their time has come. I didn’t even notice that this was a carrier start because of those beautiful trimmed beards.
*I LAUGHED* way more than I should at this...
