‘Knight in white satin armor’ is a combination of the medieval legend ‘the knight in white shining armor’ and the 1967 song ‘the knight in white satin’ by the Moody Blues. The line becomes the title of a pivotal episode in episode 12 of season 2. Tony’s expression at the line is confusion at what she said.

This is one of the best episode of the Sopranos of all time. The mix of Tony's relationship with his daughter and having to kill someone at the same time is just brilliant and defines what the Sopranos are all about. Also Carmelo's struggle with her guilt of being with a mobster is just great character work.

Regarding what you said when you compared Walt to Tony and the fact that Tony was switching so much more easily between being a murderer and the more friendly and appealing personality, I think it also has to do with the fact that he grew up in this life, so he probably learned how to do it and to hide that part of himself much better.
Also, I really love the way they develop Tony and Meadow's relationship in this episode.

Mario Cuomo was also considered a favorite to win the 1992 Democratic nomination for President. But, he chose not to run. There was speculation that Cuomo had some mafia connections in his past that could derail his Presidential ambitions.
Cuomo declining to run for President in 1992 created an open field in the Democratic party which Bill Clinton eventually won.

This is one of my favorite episodes it really highlights the two sides of Tony. On one hand he’s a thoughtful and understanding father. On the other hand he’s a cold blooded stealthy calculating skilled killer. The way he snuck up on that guy and strangled him, and says “you took a fu*king oath” so super gangster, it makes your jaw drop.

This is considered a top 5 episode for the ground-breaking killing by the lead character. HBO tried to argue against it, thinking it would turn the audience against Tony. Chase knew they were wrong and stuck to his guns. This episode paved the way for all the other shows with anti-hero lead characters...Personally, I like Ep 12 of season 1, Isabella, the best from what is otherwise not as good as the seasons to come.

This is the episode that changed the way creators looked at long-form television storytelling. To me this was the birth of Sopranos. A glimpse of what it could be and becomes. Bolder and more expressive than anything prior. Pretty much every HBO series owes a debt to Sopranos and also shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Better Caul Saul, etc.

Walt was bad, but in some ways redeemed a few of his actions in the final episode. David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos, was never comfortable with people loving Tony. He always wanted to make sure you knew he was a monster. Even if he had redeeming qualities.

For me, it's not that I think Tony is a good person, but when comparing him to Walt, a lot of why I find him more likeable (and for me) more relatable even, is his motivation for his life of crime. Tony was essentially born into it, and while everyone ultimately makes their own decisions, he was heavily influenced to go into "the life" by both his literal family and the criminals he grew up around. Walt, on the other hand, made his choice to become a criminal purely because of his own hubris, and so many of his actions as Heisenberg are driven by his pride. Not that Tony never acts out of emotion, but his criminal motivation is (ostensibly) business, as opposed to showing the whole world that you're not a pathetic pushover, no matter who gets hurt in the process.
Also, despite being a violent mafioso, Tony at least seems to have people that he genuinely cares about and enjoys being around (of course, friendships are complicated in the Mafia world). Although Walt wants to take care of his family financially, the people that could even be considered friends are Hank and Gale (Jesse and Walt are in more of an abusive father/son relationship), which makes him as a character even more dark and misanthropic, and less likeable for many viewers.
    But that's just me.

Probably a mistake to compare Tony & Walter. Two different characters telling 2 different stories.
Walt wasn’t a sociopath at birth. He became one (broke bad) out of necessity & learned to like it. Slowly became addicted to the rush of violence.
Tony was committing violent crimes when he was AJ’s age. Seemingly so he will be liked within his social group & loved & respected by his parents. Tony chose this to fit in. He uses the excuse to himself & others he was born into this life & didn’t have a choice but thats a lie. AJ & Meadow were born into a crime family too & they aren’t wanting to be violent criminals.
Breaking Bad is a show of a good man turned evil. Sopranos is a show of an evil man & what made him this way. It explores the core roots of evil itself. If you ever wondered what goes on in the head of someone who can create immense pain & suffering with no regrets... like Adolf Hitler or Charles Manson or any killer large & small... this show will explain it.

I always find it interesting how so many come down on Carm so hard for wanting a nice life, but have nothing bad to say about Tony strangling a man in cold blood who hadnt done a thing to him personally, just bc he happened to see him, and he broke mob rules years ago.
I get Tony's likeable. I like him too. But objectively, morally, he's way worse than Carm. Yet let her mention (sobbing with guilt, btw) that she wanted $$ and that gets judgment & derision.

She’s a willing accomplice to a mass murderer. She chose to birth innocent children into a murderous mob so she wouldn’t have to work or get educated. She won’t even attempt to do what’s best for her children. She’s selling out her own children so the easy money for her spending pleasures never gets interrupted. She just confessed all this to a pervy priest she’s attracted to hoping for salvation for her crimes.
