My first memory of music was this song when I was 5. It was 1973 and my family were moving back to Texas from Michigan. At some point we made a road stop. It was just my mom and I in the truck and this song came on. I was immediately struck by it. The intro made me think of an old western movie. But when David Gilmour's guitar solo came on, I literally saw bright glowing green. For that moment I was in a trance. When I got older and understood the lyrics it was like getting slammed all over again. Dark Side Of The Moon isn't just and album. It's a masterpiece that no one in our lifetime will ever duplicate. It was a rare moment of perfection.

Other than the track Money, this album was created at a time entire albums were listened to at once. It is really the only way to appreciate Dark Side of the Moon, along with virtually all Pink Floyd albums, indeed, most of the albums of the era. From the glory days of AOR, or album oriented rock, FM radio dj’s would almost exclusively avoid single tracks, instead doing entire LP album sIdes or both sides. Often including conversations with artists, producers, and other conversational asides. Nothing like this will ever be heard again. Glad you played this, but be aware that individual cuts do not capture the spirit or intent of this album.

I remember the first time I heard The Dark Side Of The Moon (I was about 10 years old). My parents had quite a collection of music albums, so I was listening to quite modern music for the time - but this was otherworldly! How can anyone put the sound of a clock, money jingling, a helicopter from left to right, someone laughing in a song? I was absolutely thrilled! And yet I didn't understand it at all (I was born in Czechoslovakia and of course I didn't speak English - which unfortunately I still don't). When I later found out what lyrics these pieces of music contained, I was amazed at how deep and true Pink Floyd's lyrics were. They are still timeless today. Have a great 2022 everyone!

Fun fact: the part after he says “the song is over, thought I’d something more to say” isn’t actually Time, but is a reprise of the album’s opening track Breathe (same chord progression/structure/etc, essentially another verse of Breathe added in 2 tracks later)

They have a VERY unique sound. I've been looking for another band like them for 30 years. The song you tuned in here is one that will grow on you in a huge way as you two grow older. If this is truly your first time hearing this, give it ten years. The impact it can have on your life is unparalleled in my humble opinion.

Good analysis. You dialed into it. What always got me was when he's warming his bones besides the fire, meanwhile, across the field, someone else's time has run out. The bell is tolling, and the priest is reciting the "magic spells" for the person.

What makes this song stand out for me is the all black female choir, the 2nd you hear one you know it. They have a very specific sound that no other choir are able to duplicate. For me it adds just that right touch and really makes the song that much more moving, powerful and full of emotion. The vocal wailing is fenominal! I love it.

I am being metaphorical here. But I picture Pink Floyd on the first day they ever walked into a recording studio. And some label exec walks up to them and hands them a book titled "How to make a rock song correctly." And the band flipped through it for five seconds, said "Thank you", threw the book out the window, and set about writing their own book.

the thing I love most about this song is that its the whole scope of a life, Throughout the song hidden in the drums is a heartbeat. That's the life. it only stops when they talk about the faithful gathering to hear the "softly spoken magic spell" - that's the funeral.

Our singers/song writers were the poets of our times. Pink Floyd was the best of them. Everything they did was better than their last. The Wall is genius. You should sit, eyes closed and listen to it from start to finish with your head between the speakers.

Hi Guys, I'm 72 years old and here in the U.K. i saw the original Floyd 3 Times Live, The Reformed Pink Floyd once in a stadium and Gilmour & Waters in respective individual live events. If you want to experience a similar show now, The Australian Pink Floyd Show should be doing the American tour this coming summer Covid permitting. This is a multi Million $$$ backed Tribute band, the best in existence and prides itself on being note for note perfect with the original Group. They even played for David Gilmour's 50th Birthday Party. See Also, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets for Early Floyd stuff. They will be around your area the same time! Happy new year to you both, I love your Reaction Vids.

My favorite band. Most will tell you to spark one up and enjoy the album. I will tell you you do not need to. You put DSOTM on, dim the lights, sit back in your favorite chair, put the headphones on, press play and close your eyes. 43 minutes and 9 seconds later you will feel so relaxed and as if you had sparked one up. A natural high from the music. That is how powerful Pink Floyds music is.
