- I've been asked about 1,000,000 times what rifle I'm painting in my "Paint Your Rifle the OG Way" video and how it can possibly function. Well its time for a feature video on the FightLite SCR. It's another pretty cool option for those trapped behind the Granola Curtain or forced to live in any other Blue State who don't want to dick around with the hassle of owning an AR-15. Firearms like this show how ridiculous and convoluted the laws are. But living in Connecticut I’m not naive I can count on them coming after this version in the future.
I am betting the next bill will be a semi-auto ban in full. Revolvers and bolt actions only for the sheeple in the "constitution" state. Ironic that.
The state of Washington just pulled that. Anything semi auto is now an assault weapon, and therefore illegal. Imagine that.

I live in Alabama. I do not need to worry about such restrictions. I still like this rifle. I ran one a while ago and kind of liked the point of balance and the grip around the stock I got while moving around with the rifle. also it makes going prone rather great. I think it is telling that even without legal restrictions, I can prefer this rifle in some cases over a standard AR just due to its own virtues.
Removing the pistol grip from an AR is kinda like removing the racing stripes from a car. It doesn't slow it down it only looks less sporty.
I've been obsessed, from a distance, about this particular freedom stick...it's like a ranch rifle knocked up an AR-15 and the Fighlight was born.

As a resident of CA, the SCR is an awesome alternative! It's got a great trigger, length of pull is perfect for me, I can use a low optic mount & it's been 100% reliable. I added and Ambi-Charging Handle & Ambi-Mag Release to make it work better for me. Mine is mated to a BMC upper & I really like it! Great review Officer Gregg, love your content - keep'm coming.

I got the AR Maglock and it's a pain if you have a double feed
It's actually a lot like the same buffer system as an FN FAL. A rat tail the pivots into the stock which has the buffer spring.
Works almost exactly like Benelli inertia guns as well.
I was just thinking the same.
Beretta also uses a similar system.

I live in the city where anything that looks like an AR is banned, so this was perfect for me. I have it about a year now and very happy with the way it runs....my only problem still is magazine capacity limit. I always enjoy your content.👍

Cool gadget, looks great in these colors. The best part is that it gives a lot of people chance to have a proper rifle in governmentally challenged states. I'm not sure if it'll be an option in Illinois, after all here 10-22 is considered an extremely dangerous assault rifle and banned. Cool video OG 👍👍👍

I like fightlite and the SCR but I also made my units featureless with the resurgent arms kits and affordable and ergonomic and maintain the standard manual of arms. Great product and there is that traditional feel I like of SCR too. Even behind the lines we have options... but it all cost money.
I have to say Gregg, this looks like a very functional alternative to the Mini-14! Between using a free floated upper receiver, a good barrel, good sighting system, AR mag compatibility, and the straight comb stock this thing actually looks like a workhorse. Thanks a bunch for showing this, and I hope you're enjoying your retirement!

I now have the fight lite lower receiver for when I travel outside of my free State. Love it!!! I also have the pistol grip lower receiver I use for my 8" 300 blackout for when I am backcountry camping or hiking.
I like it! I live in a free State but I think it’s pretty innovative, that tail on the rear of the bolt functions the same way as an inertia driven semiautomatic shotgun, Benelli and Weatherby use a similar tail that retracts into a buffer tube in the stock. I think it’s an interesting hybrid concept.
I hate the reason this rifle exists, but it’s a super cool rifle.
FYI those who are looking Foxtrot Mike just began making these same rifles but with no rat tail or buffer in the stock. Look for the “ranch” model
Blue state legal is nice, but this is legitimately a really cool looking design. I've already got a few ar15s, but this is next on my list, simply for the cool factor.
As an outsider looking in who has not had brain 'muscle memory' built in by long association with AR's that looks like a neat transition from bolt long rifle to semi-automatic platforms. Great video ( I loved the Bob Ross one too). Regards from Scotland.

I remember seeing this the first time around and thinking that the bolt carrier/buffer arrangement looked familiar. It's like the rat tail on a FAL/L1A1 carrier group - I finally remembered!
As others said though, stick a side charging upper on it and I wouldn't have to think about running one. Well, other than the legalities of owning one over here, that shit's a LOT more complicated for us!
I _finally_ got one of these a few months ago after visiting the FightLight website for YEARS and they're always being out of stock. It was well worth it though. The wood stock is a a little frustrating because the length of pull is a bit long for me but I remedied it by getting a plastic one. The cross bolt safety and reassembly do take some adjusting too but they're not an insurmountable problem.

I like this concept. I've got a coupe of AR's but really honestly I prefer traditional rifles over a pistol grip. I might have to invest in a SCR lower sometime down the road.
I honestly love the SCR. There’s companies out there that made wooden MLOK or pic rail covers and they look DOPE with it.
DOPE is illegal.
I'm in a free state and i still love the fightlite rifle.

I have an SCR from when they were ARES. lived in Ct so it was necessary. Shoots well, handles well, and is very swappable with other uppers. I now live in a free state but hold onto the SCR as it is handy for when j need to head back behind the curtain.
That’s really the only reason I’m keeping this compliant Rifle, for cross-state operations.
I feel like you wrote what I was going to say, word for word. ARES version, former CT resident… all of it, lol.
Your first video got me interested in the SCR. Now I've owned one for about a year (walnut stock with m-lok handguard). I love it! I added an ambi mag release and a Blackwood Trading forearm. It's beautiful!

Maybe an unpopular opinion but personally I prefer the "sportier style" stock. I think the rifle looks better and wouldn't mind trying it! Admittedly the attraction is due to having never gotten to use a rifle with a pistol grip, but still I wouldn't mind trying this bad boy!

I would like to see a collaboration between Fightlite and Bear Creek Arsenal. I think a side charging upper would work well with this lower.
Building a side-charging upper is on my list of projects. Might go ahead and make it piston-driven at the same time.

A left side charging handle would be sick. you could keep your master grip and shoulder hold with your right hand and charge with your left
it would be better with a short stroke set up like a ar18 or the bear creek gpx short stroke side charger

I've seen some custom jobs online where people have used Gibbz Arms uppers. They look really good.

This would probably be the best rifle for the future. Especially knowing that many states in the US can turn purple and blue.

Same here, this looks endlessly customizable, as well as being able to use any normal rear charging 5.56 bolt size upper I'd like.
I just bought an original Ares SCR. I like but tried to call Fightlight asking about the heavy trigger and if I could update with a newer gen non 14lb trigger.
They never called me back or emailed back. Just a heads up.
I bought this one while they were still Ares. It has a great trigger.
This is the first I've heard of this. It's pretty cool. I don't live in a restrictive state, but if I did, this would be on my list.
I bought the pistol lower on GB and built my own upper for it in 5.56 with a 7” barrel. Been a great truck gun so far.
Something interesting to note about mine. My lower has a slightly different shape to the slope behind the magazine well, and to the trigger guard. I asked the company for more info on my serial number and they told me that mine was part of a batch of an estimated 600 or so guns that used billet lowers as opposed to the forged which is the standard. My carrier is also phosphate and chrome lined instead of the old nitride or the current parkerized.
I guess the billet lowers we’re only a test run.
I've owned an SCR for WELL over a year. It's my favorite rifle (and I own many), in large part because I've never liked the ergonomics of the AR-15 pistol grip. The other part is because it's a great rifle in its own right. Then, lastly but not least, I use it to asplode the brains of my local hoplophobes. Which is great fun.

You’ve owned one for WELL over a year!? So are we talking 16 months? 18 months? Or are we closer to two years? Without more information I’m not sure I can properly evaluate how much experience with the SCR kit you have.

Change the upper, change the role, just like with an AR, but with better (IMO) ergonomics, and it's GREAT for befuddling anti-gunners.
Target punching, hunting, brush, open-field, you name it, it does it.

@@lairdcummings9092 My 16", 18", 20" ar-15's can do everything you just named and I don't have any problems with the ergonomics with the ar rifle grip. Yes I said rifle grip because my ar's are not pistols. You put pistol grips on pistols, you put rifle grips on rifles.
Manual of arms ergonomics of a AR15 is designed with the original grip. If for some reason you are forced to live in a near communist state this rifle is great but there is a reason it was made the way it was in the first place.

I have one of these, it shoots just fine. The trigger is a bit on the mushy side and the QA on mine was not so good, had to get parts from the factory. Its far better than the mini-14 for accuracy and options. Its a great lower for a 300blk if you are looking for something different as well. Only downside is I am a lefty and the proprietary bolt(at least when I bought mine a few years ago)was right hand uppers only.

The SCR platform isn't only a "work around" for un-Constitutional Laws , it also works well for using when riding horse back. I carry 1 w/ a 6.5 Gren. Upper or a .300 HAM'r Upper ..... that platform w/ 5 or 10 rnd mags fit nicely into my rifle scabbard

I dig the rifle. Luckily, Maryland is a lighter shade of blue but I would definitely rock this set-up.
You’re too hard on yourself OG, the older video wasn’t that bad. But this IS definitely better! There’s a shocking small amount of info / conversation about the SCR online, and this may have just become the definitive video to prime people on what it is (aside from FightLight’s own recent upload, which is super short).
I love the SCR. Support from a fellow ban state.
I like it. More streamlined profile for ranch work, to keep in the truck or by the saddle when horseback riding.
When I lived in comiefornia 11years ago I rocked a SKS rifle, now that I'm in Alabama I like the design of this rifle your showing. I'd run it as a truck gun!

A quick note about the bolt catch: the ones that are made now come with the bolt catch pre-installed. If you have an older model, especially if it's labeled as an 'Ares", then you'll have to track down a bolt catch.

I just picked it up a few weeks ago . I love it . I trained with rifles since I was a young g boy, so for me personally this AR style gun is the best of both worlds, it feels more natural for me then an AR with the pistol grip , even though I have both platforms I am better with the SCR and I have a thousand less hours of training with it . For me there is nothing I can’t do with the SCR that I can do with my AR15 . I Really love this gun , and if you live in a state where you can’t have an AR pick this up immediately before they change the laws yet again . Even though I own a Ruger mini 14 and a mini 30 I would for sure pick this over the rugers . The SCR will take any AR magazine and the Ruger will not , the rugers mag release sucks and the bolt action sucks and the bolt release is bad as well . The Ruger is still a great gun but not even close to being as good as the SCR . The build quality out of the box of the SCR is great and you can put any AR accessories on it , it also comes with an MLOK free floating hand guard and QD quick locks for a sling . The first thing I did was put an oversized AR charging handle on the SCR and a custom mag release button .

I have an "Aires Defense" version of the SCR before they became flightlight, Great Rifle!

They might as well make it in wood so that you also get massive jury points. Mock trial tests show that wooden appearance guns get half the sentences on avg regardless of whether it has identical firepower

In NY there are many people who modify the BRN-180 upper to fit this lower. The rat tail bolt carrier is prone to jamming.

I don’t know much about Keltec….Why do you say it’s a win to not have to own one of those?
Keltec doesn’t have the best rep for reliability. But they do have a great rep for innovation. They make a similar rifle, the SU-16. It’s not so modular, but it’s the same idea. Lots of people have good experiences with Keltec, but lots don’t as well. I’m one of the latter

I'm doing a build on one of these lowers with a 7.62x39 upper. Kind of a modern americanized sks of sorts. I decided to go with a side charging upper so I had to drill a hole and get it tapped.
Wow! A "compliant" rifle that doesn't look like some twisted AR-15 monstrosity.

I actually love it. Give a tactical sniper scout look. I had a Kel tec su16 which was similar, but had many flaws because the upper is much different from the AR, I always wished it had AR features

Interesting, they're basically using a Benelli Inertia buttstock with modified AR bolt carrier group. Pretty cool. Here in the Turdsville, IL, we have a mag ban currently so 10 rounders only

My first impression of the SCR is it does have the look of a Mini 14 to it ! But it's not ! The AR upper gives you all that tasty rail goodness that a Mini 14 generally doesn't. So listen to the wise OG and go forth and SCR to irk those AR haters.
If I'm understanding correctly I can take my 350 legend upper I built and put it on that lower as long as I use my bolt face. And by the way I enjoyed your video painting that, I've been with you since the beginning.
Not even looking at it as an option but as a separate firearm from an ar15 and that thing is slick looking. I’d buy one even if I didn’t live in California.
