The notes that Nick Park had for this scene were simply: There is now a sequence where Wallace and Gromit build a rocket. It took him nearly two years to film.
The difference being that Park was a one man band for the first part of Day Out, before he got the job with Aardman. They helped him finish Day Out, whilst also working on Creature Comforts and the one with the Dancing Chickens, then name of which escapes. Wrong Trousers was done as a full team with Aardman.
@@tomedy_officialell that explains why they were broke in the wrong Trousers other than the Techno Pants as well doing odd jobs like room for rent, window cleaner, bunny catcher tv show and baker.
I love this short. I like watching the older W&G shorts because there's an authentic roughness to the animation that you can't get with digital or faceless professional studios. The indication of there being blood, sweat and tears poured into each motion, the homemade practicality feels so inclusive to people aspiring to do things like this as a living and I love all of it.
the beginning of the second film (wrong trousers) shows that they are in financial peril. My headcanon is that building this rocket is the reason XD Wallace is a genius and but is a scatterbrain just struggles with day-by-day management. That's where gromit comes in :)
i'm surprised that throughout the shorts and the movie, Wallace and Gromit haven't gotten hired by NASA. the man either just has NASA-grade rocket thrusters laying around in his basement or him and Gromit made them by hand, how haven't these two been hired yet???
@CK124’s CZcams Channel of Cuthings and Chaos I don't know if I did use the right word for it or not, but I think the karma was that Gromit was using an umbrella to stop paint dripping on him, and then he moves his umbrella away for one moment, and that's the moment a drop of paint lands right on his muzzle. So he might as well have not been hiding under an umbrella, because a spot of paint dripped on him anyway. I don't know if karma is really the right word for it, but I do think it ironic.
This was my childhood as a kid born in the early 2000s of 2003. Up till I was 10-12 I never had access to CZcams at all since it had not grown mainstream till about 5-7yrs ago when everyone got phones. When I was 10-11 very few people had smartphones, & then when I was 13-14 people started getting smartphones & things started to change.
The rocket worked yet some of their cracking contraptions they built don't and looked rather amateur compared to this! Hope we see more of them even if Peter Sallis doesn't voice Wallace they've done TV adverts without him and think he would want Nick and the team to carry on and Wallace and Gromit of course.

Amazingly, the entirety of The Wrong Trousers took 18 months to complete. Park definitely learned how to manage productions in that time.

Born in 1990 in San Jose, CA. Vietnamese American boy who grew up watching Wallace and Gromit on VHS. Good times =)
Wallace = Phineas
Gromit = Ferb
No one is on Wallace and Gromits level, neither of phineas or ferb could build a rocket on a Sunday evening when B&Q is closed
