Great video. Great idea on where to save spare flints. Thanks for explaining everything. Most helpful. I'm going to go buy one now for my EDC kit. Cheers!
I live on a small farm. There is no trash pickup out here. That means driving bagged trash to the dump or safely burning items in a burn barrel. I became interested in the lighter as an EDC tool. In my case, this lighter will be handy just like a quality pocket knife. I feel this lighter will be a lifetime tool like a Zippo would be. The advantage here is that is fuel lasts months and not days. Ten years from now, you will have forgotten about the $60 price tag. No more dried up Zippo or cheap stick lighter that is not reliable. While Zippo is an iconic brand, they need to step up their game and engineer a solution for the fuel evaporation issue.
Yes yes yes! I carry the Titanlight every day in my pocket and it is my go to lighter. If I lost it I would buy a new one instantly. Sience I made this review I have only had to fill it up once and that was from using it here and there. Thanks for the comment and views.
To correct what was evidently a mistake due to a converter from drops to mil to ounces etc. Here we go. Zippo says the little aluminum fuel canister which will fill a new Zippo holds 9 ml of ZLF. The Exotac TitanLight takes 2 ml from dead dry or new and 1 ml to top off. A gallon of Crown white gas provides around 450 fills for a Zippo, and over 1800 fills for the ETL. ZLF is anywhere between 50 cents to $1 an ounce, and a gallon of ZLF is $70. A gallon of CWG is about $15. Bic lighters are around $2 here So 40 drops to top off the ETL and 80 drops to dry fill is still a hell of a sight cheaper than 9ml, that just vanishes in 3 days or less in the summer.
When I first got mine I purposely over filled it to saturate everything. Let it sit a few hours. Then I turned it upside down, let the extra drain into the cap. Put the extra in the Zippo canister. Wiped it down and screwed on the cap. It'll do that maybe one more time, then balance. Now...😂its A few drops if the cotton and wick ain't wet
I know a bunch of people said the zippo wicks don’t fit. I have a bulk pack of wicks and flints just as you do and I was considering getting myself one of these lighters. You try to replace the wick and flint yet and see if both worked for you. I know sometimes people can’t get things to work and I can get it in and working just fine. Any thoughts? If it fits and works I’ll prob go pick one up
Funny you should ask this now. I am going to do an Update to this piece of gear probably by next month. That will be 2 years I have owned and used this lighter. here is what I can tell you. The zippo flints work fine. anyone who says they don't is full of beans. You can also harvest flints from old disposable lighters, those work as well. You can also get a spare spring that will work in this lighter from one as well. I did a video on it here is a link to that video. czcams.com/video/uT3iJN1DSlU/video.html To answer you second question, yes with a small explanation. The wicks from zippo are the same diameter but not as long as the exotac ones. Or so I have been told. I have never purchased any from exotac to compare them to my zippo ones. So you can use them in an exotac depending on how you will pack it. If you cris cross back and forth and want it all the way to the bottom then the zippo will be to short. If you pack it down the middle with not as much criss cross then ya they are fine. Also how often do you trim a wick? Me I have used this lighter to start hundreds of fires. But only trimmed it a few times. I'm still on the original wick. I hope that answered your questions. So if you can stomach the price This is by far the best liquid fuel lighter I have ever owned. I recommend it.
@@charlesartificer2158man thank you for the very detailed answer. I assume that the wick being all the way to the bottom has nothing to do with it staying moist with fuel and getting lit because my zippo wicks get short and they are fine. I am the same as you I guess, I use the lighter for rare occasions. I am thinking of using it more as an edc lighter because I’m getting sick of refilling my zippo constantly. I light my wife’s smokes from time to time, lend it to a buddy and maybe spark some fireworks and birthday candles for my nephews or nieces. Other than that I just need a lighter on me always. I think I’ll take the plunge I knew I could make then work work I just haven’t had one of these in hand to do it. I’ll take you word as long as it goes through the hole I know it’ll work just fine. Just seems like a better option for someone like me who wants a rare use liquid fuel lighter
@HorsepowerHeaven No problem at all. I was thinking about it and there are 52 weeks in a year that's 104 weekend days. Minus the winter months where I am not always outside building a fire that gives me roughly 75 to 80 days a year I am outdoors building a fire. So roughly 150 to 160 days of use in the past 2 years. In that time I have only trimmed the wick that came with it a few times and used up at least 4 flints maybe more. Hope my thoughts help you out. As an EDC lighter for occasional use I can't recommend it enough. The fact that after 2 years of use the O ring seals in mine still work and prevent the fluid from evaporating have helped pay for it. My zippo I used to have to fuel it every other day or so. Thats with using the bicycle inner tube over it. If I forgot to fill it up then went to use it... well you know how that goes lol. So reliability and savings in fluid. I pulled a Brand new Zippo Wick out of a package here and popped the bottom cotton out of my lighter. The exotac Wick was coiled there. So if it is like that throughout then yes it is Longer. But side by side The exotac looks a lil bigger in diameter. Now bear in mind this is flush with fluid and has been for the last 2 years. So maybe its a lil swollen. Short of tearing all the cotton out and the wick and putting a new one in it to see (I am not doing this lol) I am saying you can use Zippo wick its just shorter. If I can pick up another one on sale I will and do a new video comparing it to all the zippo stuff. Thanks for the comments given me some new food for thought. Have a great day.
well... that explains that, how to replace the flint going to have to get one of these it can sit for a long time and still light where a Zippo will dry out since I don't partake in the nasty habit my lighter sits for some time between uses that extra flint trick is an old Zippo thing
It's a great lighter. I have literally carried this every day in my pocket. I don't smoke either but it's very nice to have an available Flame. I use it not regularly but every once in awhile. I've only had to fill it one other time since making these videos. So yeah it holds the fuel a long time. And yeah that extra Flint trick is an old Zippo trick. Or like my dad used to say every trick is some kind of other old trick just repurposed. Thanks for the comment and Views I hope you subscribe and stick around.
This is sorta off topic , I apologize BUT do you have a Maratac XL PEANUT? I would really appreciate the specs on the O ring?😂 I don't have calipers or a cone and I can't find it anywhere. Would need outer diameter, inner diameter, and the cross section, 😁
@@charlesartificer2158 Yessir, and of course they ain't gonna tell you, they sell a kit with O rings, but 2 is 1 and one is none, adapt, improvise, overcome. So I ordered some. But I'm still gonna get the measurements like I did for the Titan light so I can order some chemical and heat resistant O rings ....cheaper😂
Apologies for driving you crazy with this but those of us who collect Zippos often get "exploded flint syndrome" , flints turn to powder. Flint turns to concrete, gotta drill it out etc. That problem does not exist with the Exotac. No tube, easy fix. I mean if nothing else you can light the damn things with your ferro, but still...
Some good points I didn't consider. Not driving me crazy Brother. what drive me crazy is these young people who don't want to work. Or complain about every little thing. It's funny, live long enough and you start sounding more and more like your grandfather lol.
Hi, after watching this video I bought zippo wick and flints, problem with zippo wick is that it is too short in length and when I light it up it eats away wick fuel too fast and then it the flame dims, I tied up zippo wick and exotac wick and then made a nice coil inside the cotton filling, but the fuel from exotac wick doesn't transfers fuel to burning zippo wick fast enough and same problem, flame dims after few seconds, so I came to conclusion that original exotac wick is the correct way to go
Thanks for the info. I have not had to change my Wick so I haven't had to go through what you have. One thing I was thinking about was why couldn't you take a good butcher string which is cotton string and make your own Wick? That way it could be whatever length you need.
@@charlesartificer2158 yeah, but the main point is that I was so happy to hear that it will take zippo wick, I always love whenever an edc item is so versatile to accept different parts, so I was happy until the moment I tried and it all crashed 🤣
Good question, I went and dug out one of my Zippo to compare it to. To the naked eye they look to be the exact same diameter. I know that with gloves on I can manipulate and light my titanlight. If you like Zippo but you always wanted it to be better, it's a no-brainer just go ahead and get the Titan light. You won't be disappointed. Since making this video I carry it daily and its my go to source for quick flame. Probably one of the best lighters in the world. Thanks for the comment and views, hope you stick around and watch my other videos related to the titanlight.
Are you talking burning time? Or just sealed up and not using it much? Total burn time, I have no clue. Not used it that much. However I do carry it in my pocket daily and have used it a few times since this review. It still has fluid in it and lights up easily. I would say if the o rings are in good shape then it should last years without fluid loss. If you're on the fence about getting one just go for it before it goes up in price more, you won't be disappointed.
Yeah I bought all that other stuff first, so I could establish some redundancy in my kit. It was the last thing I bought for my lineup, because I knew I wanted a super robust lighter. Except for my ferro rod I didn’t have anything else that was worry free and simple in the elements. It hurt when I finally bit the bullet. This is like the final piece to a fire kit imo.

Titanlight takes a standard #35 o ring, use silicone grease very small amount. Zippo flint works, Zippo wick doesnt. I suspect a long IMCO wick of the same diameter with the wire lead will work. You can use 3 mm silver beading wire to tie on to the factory wick and thread it much MUCH easier. I love EXOTAC...just plain out period, end of story. Every ZIPPO you will ever buy tells you to NOT over fill , to wipe your hands and the lighter off before you strike it. Same applies here. Also there is no law that says you cannot turn the titan light upside down, open it, put the fuel back in that migrates around , wipe off and bingo. I don't get it..why the whining folks?😂
Thanks for the info. I think a lot of the complaining come from the fact that a lot of people haven't even used a Zippo. Only disposable lighters, then they go to something like this and they don't fully understand how to use it. I'm surprised California hasn't passed the law against Zippo style lighters. They're trying to ban everything else. I really appreciate the comments brother I hope you stick around.
