FINALLY someone has the courage to record some sound samples of audio equipment so that we can compare! YES It's possible to understand differences, because we are already "calibrated" to the audio source we have. NO it's not ideal, I know, but yet it's better than someone saying "this one is easy listening" OR "Smooth" OR "Warm". It helps, but recording it is better.

I have both the M50x and the M70x and use both, for different purposes. For general listening and for monitoring my electric bass when I'm playing, the M50x does just fine. When I need to do critical listening and I need to get the fine details of the sound, I use the M70x. Because the M70x has a more even frequency response, I get a more accurate picture of the mix, I would not mix with the M50x. When I want to experiment and refine my fingerstyle technique on my right-hand when playing bass I use the M70x, so that I can hear the subtle differences in plucking and muting the strings.

+TheRowancave I don't think I can say I agree with this statement because it's almost trivial. The reason being many headphones, especially bass heavy headphones such as the Vmoda M100's or Sony MDR Xb 950 BT's are designed specifically FOR electronic music. So, if I have headphones that are aiming for one type of sound and genere, I'm going to use that sound or genre to show them off, just as if I'm entering a talent show and am a guitar player, I'm not going to bring in a drum set and show my skills with the drums. In addition, electronic music is generally much easier to make sound good, where as traditional instruments can be more of a challenge, especially on a large speaker system such as my RCF 712's and Danley subs

    • @keithscull8288
      @keithscull8288 Před 8 lety

Yeah you have a fair point too I suppose because the M50's are supposed to be treble and clarity cannons so for this yeah it definitely sounds like a headphone should should be expected to handle traditional instruments well! That said I currently have my bass cannons and am actually looking for mid/high cannons for a really CRISP headphone right now, preferably with a wide sound stage, sounds like you've heard both, you'd prefer the m50's? I also want to know what the Audio Technica Es10's sound like

Cuz I've had the M50x for quite awhile now but the left ear happens to be slightly broken since I have to knock on it a few times to make it sound just as loud as the right ear. Plus I think a song that helps really show speakers sound quality best is "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana so you can focus on each instrument clearly (thats how I determine how good of sound quality headphones or sound systems have)

The reviewer doesn't realize that the silver parts on the 70s are aluminum. That means they have about 50 times as much metal as the 50s, so are more premium construction. You don't need all that flexibility if you're keeping them in the studio and having the earcups move so much will wear on the wiring more over time. The 70s have a greater frequency range, but don't have the mids scooped, so the 50s actually don't reproduce as much bass as the 70s. Totally amateur review.

Even if you can't hear it properly, mostly based on reviews they are good in sound quality. What you should check is the graph charts which show it's frequency on the high mid and low. Which would help you more to know what gives better base or is completely flat, like the m70x

I think video's 3-minute and 47-second test still has some limitations. On the one hand, it USES mono music to test, on the other hand, the track used for testing is not complicated enough. Great f*ckin' video dude! Great unbiased analysis, and the sound test is genius, I wish other reviewers would do the same, the sound comparison test demonstrates which headphone is suitable for casual listeners (M50X) Vs a producer/sound engineer/composer (M70X). I prefer the M50X's due to the warmer sound, and I don't ever think that the M70X's are worth almost double the price of the M50X's, especially when there are monitoring headphones that perform as good or even better than the M70X's for half the prices. If the M70X's came noise cancellation, then ...mmmmaybe I'd call say the price is reasonable, they would have to possess Bose like Noise Cancellation to win me over. In my opinion, the M70X, might as well of been called the "M50X II" or the "M50X Deuce", or the, well you get my drift, they're just the M50X's with less bass, slightly more clarity, and arthritis on the joints.

I've owned three pairs of ATH-M50 -- but not the X variant. 1st pair non-removable spiral cord. 2nd & 3rd pair are the BT version (One for home and one for work). Out of testing 30+ headphones before selecting the M50 I had choosen $50 to $500 price range and the M50 had the best sound (to my ears). YMMV. The price of $170 is solid enough for my pocket book.

Is the M70x response really more flat or... actually inverted? Based on your demo, I'd find it hard to believe someone would mix and equalize that song to sound like that, but then maybe they know they're making it for non-flat listening. It's like a paradox. XD

You didn't find the bass on the M50 "loose"? Another reviewer said "balance but the bass is a bit loose".

    Lets conclude:
The M50x's are by far the best headphones in that price range. They are so good that they can compete with headphones which are double the price from other brands.
The M70x's are even better but also way more expensive. Therefore they already are able to compete with all the super high end products while being really affordable in comparison.
    Lets conclude the conclusion:
Audio Technica is a god brand (I didn't mistype)
The reason why they are so affordable btw. is because Audio Technica barely does any marketing and focus on research therefore, which is also the reason why not so many people know them.
At least thats a big win for their little amount of consumers.

I find my M50x to be better than this skinny one(M70x), it Probably has lighter weight as we can see in its build quality (more plastic), but still what people want is descent build and sound quality for affordable price. Also, i love how M50x produce base and warm detail of mids/highs.
    Awesome Comparison. Keep it up.

I suggest getting open back headphones for mixing and closed back for recording. Ath-m50s or m50x is supposed to be for studio use but it has too much bass so get ath-m40x instead or if you have higher price point like 300 usd, research on it first but don't get the m70x.
