when you get bogged in soft sand idle backwards without spinning even if it's only 50mm then idle forwards each time you compact the sand and go further and further. but the key is never spin, you spin you go down, the diffs and everything start dragging and you get stuck. it's counterintuitive but when you start spinning back off for more traction.

Great stuff - maybe do a follow-up video on what to do after a beach trip - i.e. washing down, getting the salt and sand out of the vehicle, etc.
Considering you haven't really driven on sand & dunes, you showed great maturity, and used excellent commonsense tackling it. You're a role model on how to 4WD to the new (& not so new) to the 4WD lifestyle. Sadly, more and more beaches in NSW are getting closed to vehicles. Mostly due to cowboy and irresponsible 4WDers and campers. And others to greed. It'll be a sad day when NSW follow VIC and ban all vehicles on NSW beaches.
Whoa! I didn't realise you can't drive on the beach in VIC. From someone who's grown-up driving on sand dunes in NSW, I can't imagine not being able to do it. It's great to see the excitement of beach/dune driving through fresh eyes. Good one boys.👍👍
You can drive on a beach between Portland and Nelson.

Ah, Little Dip Beach. I too have been stuck there, by myself, below high tide mark, tide coming in, with 1 set of recovery boards and a shovel. Lets just say you hit the nail on the head saying it was a very very stressful situation 😂. I said that's where I got bogged as you drove past the bit where I got stuck. I really enjoyed this episode! keep up the good work guys!

I read the title and thought, I wish I knew you were coming to WA. Most beaches are that bogie in the wash line. The snatch was the better choice for those conditions and hopefully ya learned not to leave the track and if you have too always head to the high side. You’ll learn with experience.

I was in a similar situation to Liam once but on my own, had no recovery tracks haha. Ended up going down to 2 PSI and drove out (just normal rims)

Great video boys! Been going to Robe for years! Try dropping your tyre pressures to 12psi and you'll never get stuck there. Always love seeing a notification for a new video. Keep it up!

G'day from western Australia 🇦🇺❤️ here in the summer time I have had to go down to 8psi in my lc105 on 35s to get out of trouble. Don't be worried about letting your tyres down ,just don't turn sharply while that low. Once you've passed the trouble spot ,go back to 15psi and continue .You live , you learn and it's always fun making memories and campfire stories for decades to come. Great vid boys love it❤️✌️🇦🇺

from many years of sand driving, the maxtrax launched all way back in the mid-2000s was a game changer for me. if there was anything i learnt from melting early maxtrax, was to let the lugs bite into the maxtrax (be easy on the gas), and *slowly* accelerate. sand is quite different from mud, in that you don't really fling sand out of the lugs when you drive, you just sink... so at 8:20, liam accelerated a bit too quick.z
also, at 11:00 where liam mentioned 16psi, its possible to go down to under 10psi even for a heavy cruiser, but be very very careful when you turn...
settings this aside though, this was a great video! keep up the good work and show us all the diversity of australia's offroad locations!

If have trouble drop tyre pressure crazy difference between 16psi and 10psi, momentum is you best friend on the soft sand, so glad both of you boys were there and came prepared with Maxtrax see way to many drivers with full road tyre pressure and no Recovery equipment out at stockton,NSW Love your videos keep up the great content!

Great video as always guys, I did this back in March and loved it. Really need to highlight the importance of sand flags here, it can’t be understated. So many crests on those single tracks and also the dunes…. Absolute necessity
I spent a week driving with a farmer in the Kalahari with soft red sand dunes wherever you looked. He never moved it out of 2wd the whole week. It is all about technique and reading the path in front of you. Soft foot - no hard acceleration - and speed is your friend. Imagine there is a soft crust at the top of the sand and you don't want to break it away. It is literally water surface tension creating that crust. Also NEVER brake - coast to a halt. Braking causes a big pile of sand to build in front of the tyres. And when you pull off, reverse a meter back first. Because slowing (even coasting) builds a pile of sand in front of your tyre.

@@AussieArvos you should buy the dash cam for your Atoto head unit. It films in 1080p an will capture everything out the front of your car. I bought it for mine and the quality is pretty damn good!

Perfect job with the first maxtrax attempt. Worked mint but then a bit to heavy on the throttle. Hi would have been inclined to winch rather then snatch with such an angle between the cars
I agree, to heavy on the throttle! The patrol was up and out but then bogged down again... Good effort first time though for sure!
None of you two youtube experts suggested lowering tyre pressures further as well as utilising max trax. Instead ur only concerned about heavy throttle 😂😂

Bro so happy your doing my home track. I’m on a farm about 5 minutes out of Robe. This sand can be hell sometimes but it’s my favourite place in the world.

So was I! I'd say if you're not super confident just do it with a mate! Makes it alot better! Once you get out there you realise it's not that bad! Just gotta dive into it! 🤙

i do lots of beach driving here in tas. straight down to 12psi in my patrol. never fails
When we do Beachport we drop our tyres straight to 10psi. Often when you see someone bogged, you ask them have you dropped your tyre pressures, Yes to 16psi. Then they drop it to 10 psi and they can drive straight out

I wonder, where Liam got bogged near the water, if the sand was hard enough at the water line to get some speed up to climb back to the track?

Some of those beaches are soft all the way to the water, I’d be very wary of venturing further towards it, as you will then have even less time for recovery before the water gets to it and it’s pretty much say goodbye to your vehicle. Other beaches down there are firm by the water tho, so you gotta take them all differently.
Yeah im from sa. And that track is notoriously soft the closer you get to the water line. On this track always take the higher line.
Beachport is a different animal with the sand, mist beaches get firmer near the water over there it just gets softer lol even on a dirtbike it can be hard going near the water
Good to have seen you guys respect the beach here that is good to see as not many people respect the place done well an yea it is amazing on the beaches here
Definitely gonna add this to the bucket list. You'll note that the Ute didn't seem to perform as well on the sand. It's because the lack of weight means the tire doesn't bulge as much to create the long footprint required for sand driving. I personally use 12 Psi for my front tires and 8psi for my rears on my D22 Nav and I've never been bogged on Stockton beach in NSW.

Bornholm Beach Western Australia is supposed to be the toughest beach to get off in all of Australia! The track off the beach is up a dune about 500ft high

The most accurate description of what 4wding in WA is like
Put it in low range lower the tyres to 12psi use the max trax but don't spin the wheels after

great video. if you go further south there's more with water crossings all the way down to Carpenter rocks.
Recommend a sand-flag for Beachport-Robe, especially during the more popular summer months, as there are plenty of 4- and 2-wheel vehicles amongst the dunes.
Beachport-Robe is great, so is the more remote Southend, definitely a high probability of getting stuck and poor reception as well as low traffic.
Another place to have a lot of fun is Coffin Bay and Pt Lincoln NP.

Wind blown soft sand or big tides can change it all very quickly.
I spoke to a local who does tours down that way all the time and there were certain beaches that they said to just stay away from.
1 sand track for each wheel on each vehicle imo.

Bet you both had flasbacks to 2006, when Liam got bogged. Giggles. I believe everyone attempting beach or sand dune driving, should have 4 maxtraxx each. & don't ease onto the throttle, put a stamp on it & send it. Plus, if you both had 4 Maxtraxx each, you could lay them down like a track, driving from 1 set onto the other to build even more momentum
You fellas should also consider doing a video, on the one thing every newbie to fourbies should know. Tyre pressures on different terrain. Rocks, mud, sand, snow etc

Could've driven out of that easy, part liam got wrong was flooring it as soon as he got back on top. Got gradually build ya speed up otherwise you just dig straight away. That and i wouldve rolled back and forth to compact the area you were trying to launch off so you'd have a better shot at getting going. Also 16 psi is still pretty high for soft sand, there are beaches over here in wa where you have to go down to 12 at a minimum so don't be afraid to go lower, as long as ya arnt flooring it you wont roll a bead.
Also forget to mention, reverse is ya best friend for getting out of bogs on a beach, always easier to roll onto the tracks you've already made than it is to make new ones and it gives you better control against sliding down further to the water edge
Don’t be afraid to let your tyres down more, do this run every year and I always start at 12psi and never have an issue
Yeah we were at 16psi and our tyres do bag out alot at 16 as they are only 2ply, but we could of gone lower if we were desperate!
I usually start at 12psi as well, bit of driving check again and they quite easily jump up a couple psi
Over in WA on the beach every weekend. Always 12psi.
@@sem0006 yeah the tyres heat up from being so deflated which then heats up the air inside therefore increasing the pressure

Next time if you lads don’t have a recovery vehicle then just immediately stop and go back the way you came, as in put it in reverse and then use the maxxtracx to get you out backwards, I live in perth so I’ve done a lot of beach driving

Did a 15 bike trip to Robe years ago with paddle tires and all... Such a sick weekend only thing that is hard on bikes the undulating tracks

Just go straight to 10psi, 15+ in that size tyre in soft soft is still too hard unless you have 35s, in which case you could do it in 2wd at 15psi lol
Definitely 35x12.50/315 are needed unless the vehicle is less than 2500kg.
@@gen1c8rs88 Rubbish. Used to drive on those beaches in a stock standard Series 3 Land Rover with 16 inch light truck tyres fitted.
