I never get used to how you somehow do these magic tricks. Like this video "Nothing impressive looking here" then at the end just take brush with white paint, dab it around and BAM straight from the gods themselves. Worst part is how simple everything looks and turn out frigging amazing, it's unreal.
Your Favorite Fin , you know what they say “practice makes perfect”, very very true, nobody is instantly good at anything, and anything worth doing is worth doing well. Good luck with all your endeavours.
I've found an alternative use to this mixture as well: I was making a 1/72 scale A4D Skyhawk, and after I finished assembling it it turned out that despite putting the recommended weight in the nose, it was still sitting down on its tail. And the fuselage was already glued together, so I couldn't just add more lead. There was, however, a small gap between the control panel and the cockpit floor, so I mixed a sanitary silicone with IPA (to a little more watery proportion) and used a syringe with the biggest needle I could find to inject this mixture into the aircraft's nose. The silicone has now dried up, and lo and behold, with its weight the aircraft is now sitting neatly on all three wheels. If there wasn't any gap in the cockpit, I think I could simply use a drill to make a hole in the nose which I could cover with putty afterwards.
What a brilliant way to do it and it’s so fast it’s taken me a lot of time to get anywhere near that effect with proprietary brands as they keep flattening down.
Luke at his best! Been missing your cheapo tips and tricks :). Not that i don't like your other stuff, You're still the number 1 guy when it comes to terrain making for me. Keep up the good work, mate!! All the best
Thanks so much for this video, it was incredibly helpful! I just made my first ever water effect for a diorama: a beach and ocean with waves, using this method. I used real sand, shells and rocks from a beach, and even built a little cave. It came out brilliantly! Cheers mate!
Very authentic person and very talented artist. Nothing to dislike, so you have a new subscriber. Thanks for all your great work. Greetings from Mexico.
I know this is an old video. I have tried several water effect products that doesn't ever seem to work for me. This effect looks very promising and I hope to try this on my board. I hope this works. I like the fact that this is a thick, quick drying method. Thank you for showing us this technique. I did use this effect. It does look pretty good for what I used it for. I had to buy 2 tubes, but still cheaper than buying actual water products. I even still have some left over in 2nd tube. Thank you for showing me this affect.
I think that's fantastic, have always wanted to do more water related dioramas, particularly when making 148th and 132nd scale float planes, very helpful indeed, thanks very much 😊👍
Luke at the end of that caulking gun thee should be a notch that opens the caulking tube , so no knife needed. Well most of them do have it not all. All the best mate I am rooting for ya in your new full time career .. Go get them son
Dear Luc, thank you for posting this video. Good and simple solution that makes modeling hobby still financial friendly and afordable apart from achieving great results. Thanx again and keep the good work!
I expected that tube to be 30 quid - but dang this stuff is cheap! I'll definitely be getting it for my small puddles to not have to bother with resin at this stage of terrain making! Thanks for sharing Luke, and I'll definitely buy it over your page!
I've used this a few times , it's great and miles cheaper than anything. It helps if you put the bit you want to use in the microwave for about 20 -30 seconds and it makes it easier to deploy !!
Did Luke ever release his own version of a wave product? I'm desperately looking for exactly what he has described and it'd be great to be able to support him and buy his product instead.
I coul have used this ideea in my first diorama lake :)...but i will surely try the splashing effect. Thx man! Great ideea with the cheap alternatives! It worked for me and it turned out great!
There is a thing you called "stipple dry brush", I've just heard "dry brushing" (in the US at least). I'm new to game miniatures painting, and for the base of a plague doctor piece, I want the base to look like a cobble stone walk with dirty water between the stones. I just came across your video when I was looking for options for creating water effects. This is amazingly awesome. I'm headed over to your store to check it out. Thanks for sharing this information and demonstration.
Been using the Evostik version for a while now, really great, great to know can get it from you now though. I will put a coat of varnish over the top to add shine if needed and to harden the surface. One coat of quick drying varnish and she is golden. Thanks for the great vids bud.
@@GeekGamingScenics Great to know, never tried to thin it just ran it out of the tube, and spent ages smoothing it. Funny enough used to use this kinda thing in the trade and used the same method of a drop of glass cleaner to help things smooth out, but you have got it down more scientifically, I always have Iso on the go so this will work a treat, going to get some off you soon I think.
Wow, Love this video and the stuff. You do make it look really simple to use. Looks like you have it fairly priced on your website, and it doesn't look like it's available in the US as cheap. Think it's time to make an order!
I can see obvious applications for the likes of this, with say armour going through wade able rivers or bikers going through streams at speed as this would make it appear as if the water is being thrown back on itself, so yeah I'll give it a test run and see what effects can be achieved - cheers mate!
Can’t find ClearFix here in Texas, but experimented and found that LocTite Power Grab Ultimate works like this too. You can get 99% isopropyl at Randall’s; haven’t found it anywhere else. Takes quite a bit of stirring to get it into a nice liquid consistency with a bit of thickness. If you thin it enough, it will pour, bubbles will rise to the top while it sets. Comes out quite clear and smooth. To add waves and splashes, I let the smooth water set and then use a squirt straight out of the caulk gun on top, since that will stay in place better. DAP UltraClear will not thin with isopropyl. Just doesn’t mix.
Would it react with inks on a large area if you did smaller parts of it in stages and layered it ?? And great video mate , soon as I get my compo money through i'm shopping at your store again , this will be on the list for sure just need to buy some iso but that's what your discount code is for 😁
Thanks for the vid, Luke. Have you tried using it on thin bases like cardboard or cloth? Id like to use this product on a fake fur gaming mat but does it shrink or warp? Is it a bit flexible in a thin layer or does it become stiff?
I love your honesty when it comes to how you are going to make your money, and applauded your endeavour, hope it all works out for you and you make a shed load of cash to pay your brother to build your miniatures. One quick question, as these products you mix are quite strong chemicals, are there any pitfalls to mix ratios you have found, I know with some chemicals if you use a wrong ratio they can react badly and either generate excess heat or toxic vapour, any tips?
I seem to be getting recommendations for channels that are older or I never seen but I'm sure glad. This is a great tip. Do you know if the clear fix will stand up to resin?🥰
Finally, you tease, you. Another use for Iso? I really like the way that it looks over the painted bases. Do you have a technique for getting rid of the bubbles in the water?
Fantastic, thanku so much for all your investigating and experimenting. Very much appreciated. Reminds me of cooling caramel or toffee lol Or how u lift a fork up and down to get peaks on meringue..😅😃 Caterers and decorators of cakes use the isomalt.. Amazing product but has to be heated to be melted..thanks again Luke 😉
I have been trying to come up with a medium to stick a piece of debris in it in front of a primaris psyker. Going to try paint it purple tones and make it look like the energy that is holding the debri up in front of him as a shield.
Might be good to use with a palette knife for really building texture up and throw in some clear plastic for waves breaking off objects in dioramas/display bases
Just did this on top of a smooth resin ocean pour, and looks really great, but feels a bit rubbery now that it's try. What varnish can I use on top? I'm concerned with durability. I tried Liquitex Acrylic varnish and that seems to flake off when dry, also tried a polyurethane varnish (painted on) with similarly poor results. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Could you potentially lay this out on a piece of tin foil, in the shape, remove it from the tin foil and set it down where ya need it, and build up from there? Or will it stick to the tin foil?
Hi luke. Been loving your videos. I have been struggling with water and tried a few ideas. None I was happy with then I have just come across this. It's just what I have been looking for. I do have a question. Reading the spec on clear fix. It says it can turn yellowish over time. Have you experience this.
Genial por compartir tus experiencia y bajar costos con productos caseros. Solo una duda, las burbujas que quedan atrapadas. empaña el resto del realismo que crea esta textura de silicona y alcohol
Awesome stuff! Funny how you've moved on to considering how to make big waves and swells etc at the same time I've been. You've started talking about it well before my current vids so not sayn youve taken my ideas lol, and ive been working on my ideas of big swell's/waves before id seen any of yours. So awesome stuff is what I'm trying to say haha. This is very interesting and I'm going to definitely have to give this a go and give u full cred if I end up using it in the future!! Awesome stuff man.
Hey Luke, do think slime would work? I'm thinking about using clear slime to achieve sth similar since its also polymer based. I don't have any experience with making dioramas but Clearfix reminded me of slime.
I have a larger mini that I'll be putting in a vase (12in diameter, 8in deep). Will this mixture with a higher ratio of isopropyl be thin enough to fill layer at a time? And does it not harm the paint of the mini as it dries?
First I would like to say thank you for the tips !... I'm making a small 1/64 scale diorama with a truck at high speeds splashing through a shallow River do you have any suggestions on how to make the splash coming from the front tires as it enters the river? Thanks in advance!
Looked you up for how to make water feature in penjing Bonsai. Could I use mixture on top of rock or plastic foundation in Bonsai pot? Your video looks like just what I need.
Can the clear fix be used more than once or do you need to use all in one go? does it set in container after you cut seal or is there a way of storing it?
Any product that would turn full solid after using using it to simulate the waves. Because the ms polymer will still be flexible when it polymerize.. I mean it will be like a hardened silicone
I have tried to use woodland scenics water multiple times and can't quite get it how I want.... this solves all my problems. Hey, man I was just asking when you were mixing the clear fix polymer did you use the isopropanol 99% or did you just use the clear fix polymer

just bought a couple mate, all the best for 2019 hopefully geek gaming will be a big success
That's awesome buddy, I will definitely give that a shot, I like doing water dioramas but extremely dislike the long wait in between drying stages
Awesome tips! Looks great!
I've been using polymers mixed with white spirit, which is cheaper but smellier. Iso is the way to go.
Amazing work mate, great tutorial

Great idea. How would you go about getting rid of the air bubbles? Just poke them with a toothpick/cocktail stick?
Have you tried acetone to cut down the harshness of the edges, ?its very good for dissolving plastics as in nail varnish
