- Recently, Nick Jonas sat down with Larry King to talk about his experiences and challenges with diabetes. In honor of American Diabetes Month and those living with and fighting for the future of the disease, please take the pledge at AmericanDiabetesAssociation today!
Much relief after going through this stuff czcams.com/users/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i Stress no doubt affects my blood sugar levels. Taking a walk usually helps bring them down. Eating sweets is not my favorite, but if i take a large portion of them, my blood sugar level rises high. I think it's the high concentration of the glucose flowing into the bloodstream all at once. This is a lesson worth taking note of. This is a great material to learn from.
I'm a diabetic myself and I have so much respect for Nick.he's such a strong person.I hope one day there is a cure.
Same I had the symptoms plus increase vomiting, a sign of very high sugars
I was diagnosed a week ago and my life feels so different now.
Don't let it define you. It will definitely make u a stronger person I've had diabetes since I was 3 now I am 20 years old. Always think positive and take care of yourself :) stay strong ✊
alisaali123aa wow that's a long time. Thank you so much!
Anthony it's ok bro Ive had it for a year now and at the beggining I had thoughts of that I was different and just not happy , but I now accept that it happendd to teach me a lesson and life puts u obstacles that u must overcome
Dennis medina Thanks so much mam
man
My boyfriend is diabetic, type 1 and he means the world to me. At first when he had to give himself shots, I had to look away because I couldnt bare to see him in pain. But I soon got use to the blood, the shots and having to be careful with him sometimes if his arms got swollen. He talks to me about his diabetes sometimes when things get too hectic. One time he just got so angry with all the pressure and punched a hole in the wall. He truly made me understand how difficult things are for him
Its very hard I've been diabetic half my adult life, I'm struggling now and I have to be straight how to get in control, but little do they realize I need my Dexcom to do that otherwise I'm all over the place
Wow, nobody would say that he is 19 because a 19 teenager is never like this, so strong, so mature, so honest, so .. just.. he is so inspiring! I don't know how it does it, but he is sooooooo inspiring!
Being an t1d myself, I feel like people who have diabetes are always more mature and strong mentally... cause we have responsibilities and worries all the time 24/7 since we’re a kid or teenager.... you are kinda forced to grow up faster
my blood sugar was over a 1000. My doctor hospitalized me immediately even though i didn't have health insurance.
haile 89 😱 I know this is two years later but, I am glad he or she did!
Type 1 or Type 2? Extremely high blood sugar is more common in undiagnosed type 2 diabetics.
@@dvdv7777 I got diagnosed with type 1. I was 26 years old at the time. Managing my blood sugar hasn't been a huge problem. Just annoying really. I've always had good eating habits. The biggest hurdle was gettting affordable health insurance and access to fast acting insulin. Currently I have no health insurance and I buy the intermediate insulin from Walmart. I haven't had my haemoglobin A1c test in two years.
@@lonewolfnh89 What's your BG on average? Also, if you don't have one yet, I strongly recommend you get a CGM. It is a total game changer!
@@dvdv7777 can't afford a CGM. I would estimate my BG is between 150-180. I work out (run 3-5 miles daily) so I don't want it too low. But I know its still too high.
I have Type 1 and take four injections of insulin a day, at breakfast, lunch, dinner and before bed. I monitor my glucose levels four times a day too. I came very close to death, as my diabetes went undiagnosed for a very long time, to the point I went into diabetic shock and was hospitalised in intensive care on July 22nd 2017. 48 hours I was so close to dying, but managed to recover. Just over three weeks now, and I am coping well. It is not the end of the world. Life goes on, you just adjust and it becomes the new normal.
NIck is so great he is such a talented man and brave and i love the fact that he talks about illness and he is always helping people that are going thru the same thing so refreshing to see a young man like himself being so normal and so talented love you nick!!!
I know how all I you diabetics out there feel. I've hade type one for almost 4 years. This is a 25/7/365 job, there are no breaks from it. Comment on this if you know how I feel! Us diabetics have each others back!!
Tabitha Marie same bro
same
tabitha marie I don't have type 1 but I totally understand how you feel as a type 1 because my 3 year old son has type 1
i got diagnosed in january
T1D Adult , I've had mine since 2008, but was diagnosed with Dka and Diabetes, was very I'll, they said for 2 weeks with the flu, but it's an aweful feeling
Diabetes is no joke !
You ain't kidding!!
I was diagnosed when i was 5... Nick Jonas is my idol
My nephew has been just recently diagnosed and this is somewhat comforting I want him to know he can be anything he wishes to be
Im 27 yo and I was just diagnosed with DT1 and listening and reading Nick history has been so inspirational for me. Thank you so much, I grew up lsitening to your music and I was con Cam Rock Lake having such a nice experience so I feel kinda contected to you. Thanks so much again.
Awww :'(
Made me cry! Nick is my hero, he's such a strong person! Blindness, short life.. Whatever happens, we will always support you!
since being a fan of nick's and knowing he suffers from diabetes has made me more aware of the disease i started noticing the symptoms in my mum in 2010 around that time and i kept telling her to go to the doctors to see what was causing the weight loss and extreme thirst, she finally got it checked around may 2011 and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. so nick did not only change my life he saved my mum's. thank you x
I seriously almost just started crying especially when he was talking about almost being in a coma and the blindness. I love Nick so much he really is one of my biggest inspirations of all time. Love you forever and always Nick
i was diagnosed when i was fourteen about eight months ago, and i look up to nick jonas so much.
Oh, my baby. I love you so much, Nick. I'm so proud of you! Such an inspiration!
I needed this right now in my life. It reminded me that I am not alone. And how far I've come since 2013. I love buck jonas ans the fact that he is with him now is sad and cool . Glad this was made.❤
My blood sugar was at 600-700 I remember I was diagnosed at the age of 10 and I wasn’t that terrified because my brother had diabetes as well so now there 2 diabetics in our family!
He's such a great guy! He's really brave to be able to speak about his diabetes. i find it so difficult to talk about. i hate having it so much! i try to hide it from others and ignore it but its always there and for him to talk about it like that really helps me.
nick i want to thank you for everything you do your an amazing person with such a big heart. when i first herd your story it helped me to better understand what diabetes was especially since my uncle is a type one diabetic your an inspiration to me and people all the world for the bottom of my heart thank you.
he inspires me everyday
An amazing interview. What a scary thing... poor Nick. He's come such a long way, he's become such an icon and I think he's so inspirational.
i love him. he's so amazing, he is such an inspiration.
I hope Nick stays healthy . I love him soooo much . I'm gonna pray right now .
It's amazing to know that people like nick have diabetes, like to know that famous people also can have diabetes
i have been a type 1 since 2010, I was diagnosed at age 14 and it was really scary and hard to deal with at first. I still have my days where I wish it would go away but i have come to accept that its apart of me and that I can live a normal and healthy life. I really look up to Nick and I wish more people would understand what its like to be a diabetic and what we have to go through each day. I have had so many people confuse my diabetes with type 2 so we need to raise awareness and find a cure
i love nick, hes a true inspiration
I really admire this guy. Nothing can stop him from following his dreams. I am proud of him !
Guys, Thanks for sharing that wonderful program...I’m extremely happy to report, my blood tests are now showing that I am completely free of diabetes. Saying thank you does not seem to be strong enough.
As a jonas brothers fan I think it's amazing how Nick has made us all SO aware and informed about diabetes. I basically know his story off the top of my head by now! Because of Nick I make sure to donate to JDRF & the Change For The Children Foundation.
I'm hopeful that some day soon, there will be a cure. (& stay awesome Nick :))
Thanks for sharing this imfomation !!!!
He does what he does with diabetes. he gets up on stage and sings every night. I dont have diabetes but people in my family do and i know how hard it is. He is amazing, he helps other people and brings light to other peoples lives. He is the most amazing person.
I almost died from diabetes. I was home (not knowing I had diabetes) , thinking I had the flu or some stomach-virus and felt really bad. I couldn't stand up, I couldn't walk, I could barely crawl to the bathroom. After a couple of Days, my mum got sick aswell and that saved my Life. Since she was home, she could call the ambulance when I passed out. I'm so happy I did survive, even though the experience was horrible.
So much respect for him right now!
I Miss Him ! ♥ Can`t he come with more songs ! ♥
this is absolutely heartbreaking. I love him so much and to hear what could happen to him is terrifying
I was diagnosed last year with type 2... on September and i was on the brink between type 1 and 2. But kudos to nick Jonas... wow
not only does he give strength to people with diabetes but to everyone with a problem!! love you nick :)
As a diabetic I look up to individuals like Nick who face this fight in the public eye. Speaking about his experience and working to raise awareness is so important and because of him there are millions more young people aware of the disease and it's complications. Together, we can find a cure. Someday I'm sure of that.
Wow I am surprised I was faced with this a few months ago losing weight grumpy and my doc came to us and told me and my family that I was a diabetic and at that time we had no clue how to deal with it... So we spent a night in the hospital till we got it leveled out but everything is so much better you can feel the difference
Be tough. Lots of love.
I love Nickk ♥
He's so brave. I look up to him. I don't have diabetes but he is certainly a great role model for kids and other people living with this disease.
Car Culhane let me tell you something cause you sound like a woman that thinks mainly on her impulse diabetes isn’t a thing that is a disease it’s not like he’s on a stretcher and you can’t tell me nothing cause I am a person with t1d and there is a lot of people that does more then he does so don’t start praising people you don’t understand how it is so get it right❌📛♨️
@@kristypaye4718 uhh, Diabetes is a disease. Just because you happen to have diabetes as well doesn't mean you are automatically the spokesperson for the /disease./ The fact is, diabetics need all the support they can get, and of course the original commenter can't 100% relate to having it, but they at least recognize how he is a great role model for people to look up to with T1D.
i have the same problem, its painful i know... i just wanna end it some days.
Great person to look up to
I've found that to say 'it could be worse' is all relative - if a person is 'going through the worst ___" it's their personal 'worst'. It's hard to make comparisons with things like that. I always say "everyone has their something". Maybe it's not the worst thing you could imagine going through, but for the person who lives it each day, it is. And if you don't have T1, or have it and have never bee through something like DKA, how can you say "it could all be so much worse'? How do you know?
Exactly, people always say “well at least you don’t have cancer” and yea I thank God I don’t have cancer but it’s still complicated
Im a new diabetic type 1 and i never been a fan of his music...BUT i look up to him hes shown me that no mater what diabetes wont stop me from doing what i want to ...i dont know how he stayed on stage when low i wouldve wiped the mike at the audience but nick thank you
I'll been diabetic for 5 years this April and learn how to control it. Hope one day there is cure for this disease
He is really role model to diabetic patients
Nick Jonas is just so inspiring !!!!
I was diagnosed around 5 years old. I was never really scared because I new I could handle it. My symptoms were that I was ALWAYS drinking water, I went to the bathroom a lot, and a few other things. I have the insulin pump to and I don't even remember having to take a shot every single time I ate something. And before the pump, I could only eat about three times a day. Now I can eat whatever I want. I hate when people think I can't eat things.
Those are the same symptoms I had when I was diagnosed when I got to the dr my blood shuger was 823 they told my mom I have diabetes and I need to go to the er and I was balling
I was diagnosed with type 1 at 25 and am now 38. Its a hard struggle every day but what else do you do? Still work 50 to 60 hrs a week as a HVAC-R service tech and support my family and take it one day at a time. Hopefully they will find a cure or reason why this disease happens soon. Shout out to all those type 1 peeps out there!!
He is so much mature
Hes so strong and mature this is why i love him ...we'll find a cure nick "A little bit longer.." :')
Happy birthday nick Jonas I do not diabetes but I have cerebral palsy
0 People dislike this, AWESOME HE'S A TRULY INSPIRATION, EVEN FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DOESN'T HAVE DIABETES.
Aww Nick is such a strong amazing beautiful person!!
Nick is very good singer god bless you nick
I know this has probably been suggested, and is easier said than done - I'm a T1- Trust me, I know.. But have you asked your Endo about a pump? It literally saved my life. My last Endo insisted I was 'non-compliable', and didn't WANT to 'take care of' my BSLs - I was in DKA/admitted to the hospital more than I was home. Then I found a new Endo, who's actually one of my BFFs now (no joke. We hang. SMH LOL), and since my BSLs have evened out (still higher than norm, but WAY better), and feel GREAT
I Got Type One Diabetes On 11/21/14 Life Changed Forever.....
hey nick i know how it fells to have dietbetes cause i had it when i was 4 years old i started drinking lots of water then i went to my dad then i past out, so my dad took me to the emergency room and the told my dad i had dietbetes my blood suger was somwherer between 700 to a 1000 , so they started to give me insulin then i startsd to wake up but they told me in the hopital room for a little while until they got under control then i finally went home but i didnt let my dietbetes let it get the best of me and some day when i grow up i gonna be a singer like you are im only 13 right now but one day one day.
I don't have diabetes but, Nick is still my idol. I'm so sorry to hear about this.
i remember when they had their world tour 2010, i went to the show in auburn hills, MI and i had tickets to go to the soundcheck party, nick didn't look soo good and he kept drinking juice or something, so i think his blood sugar was low that day, but he was ok for the actual show :)
oh look, it's my hero.
I was minutes away into a coma, what happened was I "went to sleep" and no one could wake me up but luckily I got up at one point and I think it was almost a coma so when I was going to the hospital this was starting to happen again and I won't do finish because this is making me feel nausus
this is just one of like a million reasons why Nick Jonas is my HERO...
a little bit longer Nick, and you will be fine. I Love You
Venessa Antonio I use the Omnipod i love it but do be warned it is a little bulky. But after a week or two with it you get used to it. I've had the Omnipod for 4 years now and would easily recommend it to anyone.
No I have had type 1 since I was five and my hb1ac is around 7-8. I exercise frequently and eat healthy, thats what everyone should do.
Been a type 1 since i was 10, sugar was a little above 1400 (doctors words, not mine), this is difficult, but anyone who lives with T1D has the most willpower anyone will have.
I have been Type 1,diabetic since age 16 and I'm going on 58 thus year. I have had ny share of good days and if bad days too. I have witnessed a lot if changes through the years. I do hope there is a cure to be found soon. It's one day at a time. The other thing is we never get a vacation day from it. Hang in there... God Bless...
What your hba1c remain
nick is so 🔥
this is beautiful... i love you nick.... and... YES STOP DIABETES NO MORE!!
It's like he's telling my story, got diagnosed just after Christmas after having Covid late November. Very very close to a coma.
How are you and how long did it take for your blood sugar to get under control? I got diagnosed about 3 weeks ago
@@callumsmith7422 I was in hospital for like 5 days ish when I was diagnosed, and ever since then it's been pretty easy to keep my blood sugar under control. My nurse has told me I'm in my honeymoon period, so things will get much more difficult in the coming months/years. How are you finding it?
@@jamesmurray8362 well I'm fit and like to exercise so I eat a lot and at the begin I was set on 6 unites of insulin so I stun to 60g of carbs. They was shocked I was counting carbs already and A week after being diagnosed they put me on counting carbs an try said I'm very advanced. They also said it will take months for my blood sugar to be good. Atm it's around 7 to 14 most of the time but last night it was 5.8 and this morning 8.1. So looking good it just keep in it under control. Any advice that you may have because you're over a month ahead would be great. I also aware that it's new to you so don't worry if you don't. Also working, how's that?
@@callumsmith7422 Yeah sounds like you're doing well. I rarely go over 10mmol/L right now, in fact I have hypos quite often which can be annoying. But in terms of advice, I recommend testing you BG 4-8 times a day, or even more if you can get prescribed on more glucose strips, so you can get a better idea of what your insulin sensitivity is. Also (assuming you're in the UK) speak to your specialist nurse about getting the Libre 2 ASAP. I'm probably gonna be getting it May/June and am really looking forward to it haha! Also make sure you don't inject too much long acting insulin. I'm on NovoRapid/Levemir and there's been a few times I've woken up with my BG at lower than 4 which is obviously quite dangerous. But yeah it sounds like you're doing really well. When I was first diagnosed I genuinely thought my life was over, but after a few months I've realised it's not even that big of a deal. Obviously there's things that we're gonna have to be careful with as we get older (I'm 19) but it's not life defining. Also depending on what job you want to do, you'll probably be just fine. With the Libre, it'll make things 10x easier instead of having to prick fingers every 2 minutes, so you can just go about your day and not worry that you BG is out of control. My Instagram if jdpmurray if you want to talk more :)
@@jamesmurray8362 thank you, I'm also 19 in the UK. 😁
I was diagnosed last year but i have type 2
I got Diabetes 1 when I was 8. I'm now 42. I have a kid. If you are disciplined, you'll live longer than the rest.
Are you taking insulin and and how much insulin u take per day?
I am 14 now and like him I discovered diabetes at 13
I’m diabetic myself. Was just recently diagnosed and feel alone some days but looking for research for a cure
most of us who commented here has type one diabetes,i have diabetes too. obviously we got it at different ages from others, but even if you were diagnosed from birth till now, we all know what each one are going through. Many more kids have the disease that we have, and we can be sorrowful for ourselves! So why pout now, we all can succeed out of this together, we just have to believe that a cure will come REALLY soon!!!
Please don't. I just watched my dad put his closet cousin to rest about a month ago. He'd just gave up, lost his legs, his eye sight was poor. It was awful. :(
I was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes at 18 and my symptoms were severe and I found out I was diabetic.
Nick jonas is off the chain
I'm 17 and I was diagnosed when I was 8... It is so hard. I inject insulin into myself 4 times a day... I find it so hard to test my sugar levels, I hope they find a cure. It has become so bad that I have been in hospital because of it. I was really ill for 3 years because of diabetes. I feel like giving up... I hope they find a cure fast... :'(
Your life has been easier nick, I was diagnosed when I was 1 year old
Hello my son just diagnosed he is one.. I need more advice and help to manage pls. Thanks
@@tsigeredam6264 Does your son have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes?
@@tsigeredam6264 check out the juicebox podcast
Well I have had it since I was 5 so im used to it, and its really not that bad... Thats my opinion!
It's great to hear that you can manage your diabetes that well and so easily. However lots of others, me included struggle with it. I feel really lost right now with my diabetes, so much that I feel like I'm alone and falling into depression. It makes just eating healthy and exercising seem hard enough on top of checking and bolusing. Everyone is different To say that it isn't bad is an insult to people like me who feel like we're suffering. It feels like you just brushed off everyones feelings.
Hugs 🤗 hope you are doing better now
He’s become a diabetes advocate. He can’t spread doom and gloom, he explained his own personal experience in a very mature way. And for all the young Jonas brothers fans watching who have diabetes, he’s inspiring to believe that they can maintain a normal life.
You guys, i kinda lost track with them, can anyobody PLEASE tell me what happened to the Jonas Brothers? cuz i cant find them together ANYWHERE each one is working on their own, did they split?
I now exatcly what you mean, that is exactly my what happened to me too!
Same story...I hope there's a cure soon...ik how it feels...
i feel like crying while watching this, i get so scared ! cant ever imagine something like the things they mentioned happening to Nick ! It breaks my heart every time he says that he was a few days away to get blind or get in a coma ! And it doesn't only mean that Nick would've been close to dying, it means that none of us would have ever probably known about this guy ! I'm really thankful tho, that Nick has all the help he can get. He's very strong and mature, there will be a cure ! Stay strong
I was diagnose when I was thirteen too! It was really rough for me and I still have trouble admitting to anyone that I'm a type one diabetic out of fear that they'll think I'm a type two. I know that sounds really bad of me but I just don't want everyone thinking I just ate to much sugar when I didn't. In a freshman in high school so no one know except my teachers and a few of my friends from middle school. Any advice?
+Megan Grace Same .. But almost everyone knows i have it.. They forget it all the time, so don't worry about this Type 2 Stuff. If you explain it 1 time it will be enough
Who cares what people think, even if you were type 2 it still doesn't give anyone the right to judge. That's just ignorance at its finest. Btw getting diabetes from sugar is a myth.
I may have diabetes and I'm terribly scared. Is it hard to cope with it?I'm seriously freaking out so much.
This makes me feel like i take my life for granted. I feel bad for people who have diabetes
in malaysia - south east asia my reading are high that is 12.3 or 13.9.. neutral is 4-6. so can you pls explain the 700 reading
in USA they have diffrent measurements
A bit late but USA = UK multiplied by 18
the thumbnail looks like nick's trying to give him some kind of high five or handshake and larry is just leaving him hanging
He's speech at the beginning reminded me of Obama :P
Nick Jonas I have type one diabetes, ever since I was 4, and now I'm 11, so I had this for 7 year but. I heard on the news channel,in 3 more years diabetes may have a way to be cured. P.s I love your song jealous.
And I'm a girl rafy.g is my brother
I don't think people understand how a diabetic can go on stage every night and perform and front of thousands of people! When your blood pressure is that low you just wanna sit in a corner and yell at everyone who comes your way but he's so grounded and devoted to what he does...I don't know if I could manage it..
