Honestly, I love this kind of painting more than ultra perfect hyper-realistic portraits. There's nothing wrong with those of course and the artists who do them are extremely talented, but for me, portraits like these with visible brush strokes and texture and bold strokes of color are so much more interesting to look at.
Yes! It¨s like dramatic!
the artist definitely deviated alot from his reference though. the face ended up being alot unlike the reference. e.g eyes are bigger, leaving out the upper eyelid that is so prominent in the reference, the face is rounder, which although looks more attractive, is not true to the real persons face.
yesss i also like that type of painting too
And hs more depth.
Same! The others just straight up copy the photo
You sculpt when you paint. I am so intrigued with your technique. Layers, manipulating the paint, with each stroke, each color, push and pull. Absolutely incredible. Please, keep inspiring me... I'm hooked!
I’ve just been accepted into art college, I’m so excited and one day I hope I can paint just like you, it’s gorgeous!! I still need to learn how to handle oil paints though
You'll paint better.
When painting look much better than reference ❤
She completed 50 % of the art with a broad brush

That amazes me every time I see it!!!
2.16 ..and that picture was good enough for me. :) Amazing work as usual.
Ello Mikkel, as an artist myself it is a battle to know when to stop. But I'm having a better understanding of when to let go. Av good morning, afternoon or evening, Peace.
What a good way to practice on values AND color theory at the same time! Astounding!! Very very beautiful John. Keep up the wonderful work!
Looks great, love seeing all the brush strokes
Love the colours in this one!

My goodness bro. I would love just a thimble full of your talent!! Thanks for sharing your process. I learn quite a bit watching you.
Extremely inspiring!
I agree absolutely. Brilliant work.
Very nice , a lose and painterly look to the work . Something I need to incorporate into my own technique.
Beautiful
I love your work!

Wow! Right on 😲
Final product is beautiful and this was a treat to watch. Now subbed!
What an interesting process to watch. Those last moments are so hard to replicate!
Brilliant ...
Really like it, so awesome!
i'm in love with your channel. please keep up the amazing work
Wow another great portrait John. Absolutely stunning! As an aspiring artist, I always enjoy so much how you build your paintings, place big chunks of dark and light and handle the values, and then how you treat your colors.. makes it look so easy.. thanks for sharing and keep up the amazing work. Pure joy!
your hand is magic!
Amazing...
Love it
Your work continues to inspire me so much, I love the fact you started with such a big brush compared to the size of the panel. Incredible talent man
omg I was thinking the same thing ...how the hell can he do that with a brush that...TALENT!!!!
Thank you for doing this with a photo side by side, always wondered what your references are in doing your portraits.
That is some talent
This looks soooo beautiful! I love your painting style! 😍😍😍

YOU ARE AMAZING!!
Your videos both inspire me, and make me want to trash all my art materials in abject frustration! 😁 Masterful piece of work. Thanks
I really like your technique, lively, expressive. You're a good, wonderful artist. Greetings from Moscow.
I am an artist, but you are an ARTIST!!!!!!! Its crazy when you look at someone who does the same thing you do and think how the fkkkkk does he do that!!!
Very nice free hand work art 💖💙
Super
Прекрасная работа! Очень поэтично!
Who would down thumb this? Great work!!
Fantastic work 🤔
the fact that you're painting in full color based off a black and white reference photo astonishes me.
Your is my teacher now i learning everyday now 🙏🙏🙏 just the only thing i can't do good is mixed colour🤣
Impresionante su técnica y su habilidad, mi admiración Maestro
I torture myself when I watch this kind of videos and then watch my artwork.
Love watching your time lapse videos! One question, did you edit it afterwards in photoshop to make it warmer or did it look cooler in the video because of the lighting?
Both, in a way. I color matched the photo in photoshop to how I perceived the painting, but editing the video in the same way would have made everything too warm. So both the photo and video were done in the same light, but the photo was edited to match the painting and the video left alone so it wouldn't look weird, if that makes sense.
Koşun video geldi
I love seeing you paint. Am amazed how much our eyes want to finish things and how rough you can leave forms and still they come alive and glow. I don't paint with oils, but I want to start. So I have a question. Do you paint just on plain masonite or do you use clear gesso to coat the surface? Would like to know. Thanks in advance! And thanks for the inspiring work. I enjoy your video's very much.
Thanks! The masonite is primed with a few coats of shellac. You can also use gesso, acrylic medium, pva, or really anything that will last and stop the surface from absorbing oil.
@@LarrivaArt Ok cool. Didn't know about the Sellac! Great tip. Thenks!
Please show your colour palatte
Wow!! You did it again...👍👍
May I ask what kind of panel board you are using?
Thanks! I cut and prepare my own hardboard panels. This one is sealed in shellac, but I also use acrylic gesso, like in this video: czcams.com/video/hxzUPw2ys6w/video.html
beautiful painting, but i noticed off to the side on the palette the shape the paint made looked like caillou or david from the no david books XD
Just wondering, love your vid, where’s your head and how’s this view possible???????? V confused
The camera is suspended from above, just over my head. The easel/table is at a 45 degree angle.
LarrivaArt oooooooohhhhh right ok thank you! Such a nice art, btw, inspires me to do my own watercolour one that i’ve been procrastinating. Thanks for the upload💗🎠🌌🖌
Parece q a modelo ficou mais bonita na pintura😅
How you set up the camera for this video?
The camera is suspended just above my head from a tripod strapped to my desk/easel. You can see the top of my head bobbing in and out in the lower left of the frame occasionally.
Well done! I have one of the Van Gogh technique that I uploaded yesterday if you want to see it.
Where do you get pictures for your references?
I use various sources. This one is from Pixabay.
what oils do you use?
Hi. I use a few brands, but mostly Gamblin.
Have you ever worked on larger sizes?
What did you paint on ?
Hardboard primed with shellac.
whats this style of painting called?
😘😘😘😘😘😘😘👍🌹
I'm new but are these oil paints
Yes, oils.
What paint was used?
Oil paint.
@@LarrivaArt What brand I mean, and thank you so much for responding!
I'm mostly using Gamblin 1980: amzn.to/2YmxUBj
This is how I paint...I'd have it no other way. I was teaching myself how to paint there were two ways.
1. very detailed drawing and painting in the sections
2. shapes....
I chose the shape form I love bringing out something from nothing. A raw mash of nothing building into existence. I can't do that with detailed paintings.
Very good. Under the neck, the clear blob of paint needs to be fixed. Looks like a ball. Otherwise, beautiful and beautifully worked out.
How are you prepare your plywood? What should I do to paint on wood without absorbing the paint? Any cheap way?
This one is sealed with a few coats of shellac. You can also use gesso, acrylic medium, or polyvinyl alcohol(PVA). You might even get by with enough coats of acrylic paint.
LarrivaArt thank you!!
LarrivaArt thank you!!
Is there a reason why u chose black and white photo?
I used a black and white reference because I wanted to make up the colors. It's sometimes easier to play with color when I'm not influenced by the reference.
Everything about sun is good .
Prise the sun
Who are the 22 people disliking this?
am i the only one who see’s a side view of a face in his paint
you should have stoped at 2Minutes 60.... Great post -- thanks
Another
Another
Another portrait artist...
YAWNNNNN
The portrait artist is as relevant as Windows95
It’s the past. Nobody is impressed with ANOTHER portrait artist no matter the skill level.
The mass proliferation of the camera and selfies has utterly destroyed the usefulness of the portrait artist.
As a result all of the money, galleries and collectors are promoting outsider art...
This reads like a King Missile song. lol
Hilarious
Ok, you got me...
That was a good one...
RESPECT
Absolutely Dreadful That it we’re true lil buddy, that it were true.
Hmm maybe the artist just enjoys painting them? Would that be too outlandish for you too believe?
