      What does sugar and carbs have to do with this? I didn't hear him say anything about food but I've had pasta and chocolate cake after for desert.
      That may be causing my hard and fingers to become numb? Why would that be?

    I had those symptoms and a few others, it took Drs two years to discover I have Lymes and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I had the tingling and extreme fatigue. I could go from feeling ok to total exhaustion in a matter of a min or so. Also a small rash would come and go between pointer finger and thumb, that meaty section. Lymes mimics so many things. My daughter was diagnosed with Cilliac disease for 5 yrs, it was Lymes, neither of us knew we had been bitten.
    This was for someone.

      I had a swollen knee, that I could put no weight on. So I went to a Orthopedic Doctor and he did X-Rays and tests etc. in the end he told me. "Yeah, your knee sucks, but that is just how some people are made". I was like WTF? I ended up back at my GP for a routine physical and told him about the knee. he asked if I had been tested for Lyme Disease. I said no. He gave me a blood test and I had something like 13 out of 17 markers for Lyme. He prescribed antibiotics and my knee was totally fine in a couple weeks. I will never return to that orthopedic doctor for anything. Lyme's disease is real and really bad. It should be taken very seriously.

    From an informed, working class type guy, I thought the video was both informative and easy to listen to. I appreciate the example about the patient who had “corrective” surgery prior to consulting you. What is resounding to me is that the likely scenario of limited testing that was done prior determining the patient’s need for surgery, is how specialty practices conduct self-serving analysis, much like political organizations conduct polling statistics to support their party’s candidate, with undoubtedly the same outcomes. Again, thank you for contributing your expertise. It is helping me understand the source of my pains which I believe are the result of my hobbies which has resulted from sustained periods of time operating power tools.

      I feel at least very slight numbness almost constantly on my thumbs and sometimes index fingers but it gets much worse temporarily when bending my elbows or wrists too far. I am really worried about getting the right treatment before these symptoms might get worse and cause nerve damage. I appreciate any advice.

      What treatments most improve the numbness?

      I literally was almost done typing and youtube erased my entire problem. So let's try this again. I'm going to use talk to text so I hope it gets it mostly right and you understand. So as a mechanic while working under a car removing parts. My hands would become numb and if I tried to ignore it. The numbness would start traveling towards my shoulder it would cause me to drop tools. Fast forward 10 years later to today. I cannot sleep letting down anymore in any position. If I do so, my arms and hands will go numb from the shoulder to the finger tip. If I remember correctly. My sums do not go numb but on top of the numbness. Sometimes I wake up screaming in pain. The pain radiates from my elbow to my fingertips.
      What might be the cause of this?
      I had an mri of my L1 to L5 and was told. I have degenerative disease also

      @GenkiSugiru Před 11 měsíci

      I had severe lumbar stenosis and could literally barely walk. First surgeon said I needed urgent surgery. Second surgeon said I didn't need surgery, just physical therapy. 9 - 10 PT sessions, a few months of daily core exercises done on my own, and exercises in a swimming pool about once a week for a few months and I full recovered without surgery. I read approximately 1,000 comments from people who had undergone lumbar spinal surgery. In the best cases, the surgery is helpful for a few years. A neighbor of mine who is a M.D. himself, just had his 8th lumbar spinal operation. The man has been in constant pain for many years, and has most of his lumbar vertebrae fused. I highly recommend trying physical therapy first, injections second, and surgery as a last resort.

      A good treatment plan starts with an accurate diagnosis so I'd suggest you talk to your doctor. It sounds like an MRI or other imaging of the cervical spine as well as an EMG/NCS may be the best way to cement a diagnosis but of course it depends on your particulars. I'd encourage you to talk to your doctor about establishing a firm diagnosis and go from there.

      If you have cervical instability due to loose ligaments then you might not have findings of dysfunction on MRI. You might need to have a DMX (Digital Motion X-ray) to determine if you have cervical instability which can compress vagal nerve or other nerves.
      Have you been able to get to the root cause yet?

    I'm 58yrs old, with previous shoulder issues (TOS) and recurring cervical pain/headaches. Previous cervical MRI (less than year old) showing nothing other than OA.
    Nearly one year (Feb 22) has passed since beginning of numbness & tingling in left pinky and ring finger. I am currently post left carpal, guyon and ulnar surgeries (Aug 22 - all at same time). These surgeries improved ROM, however, the numbness, tingling and crampy pain remain. I feel like my voice has and continues to not be heard when previous diagnoses of TOS (early 2000s), and complaints of shoulder and neck pain are mentioned, repeatedly!
    More recently, MRI to left shoulder indicates supraspinatus tendinosis & fraying/degeneration of super labrum w/o evidence to suggest slap tear. Doc recommends surgery (for slap tear) with remarks that this could possibly be cause of remaining chronic numbness and tingling. I have agreed to the surgery, but only due to the possibility that this may help... but I'm feeling unheard and hopeless and thinking issues are more cervical impingement related.
    Any Suggestions Appreciated.

      I'm sorry to hear of all your struggles. I have to admit that shoulder surgery for numbness and tingling sounds odd to me. But with that said, I'm sure there are a million details about your case that I don't know. One would want to know the results of a recent EMG/NCS for you and then a lot would also depend on a physical examination. In the end, I'm not in a position to give you a second opinion over the internet (no one can reasonably do that). I always think it's a fine idea to get a second opinion before a surgery, particularly if you are not confident that the surgery will address your complaint. In this instance, you might want to talk with a non-surgical sports medicine doctor or a physiatrist or perhaps another shoulder surgeon. Ideally, you would be hoping for consensus that the surgery would help your symptoms or would not.

      @@PrincetonSpineJointCenter EMG/NCS was done (april 22) prior to surgeries (Aug 22).
      I was confused with stated results of both the EMG and NCS. As much as I could comprehend/understand, it seemed to be a contradiction, to me anyway. The EMG results were stated to be an Ulnar nerve impingement (from elbow). The NCS results were stated to be in the wrist, specifically stated to be, Mono-Neuropathy.. about as vague sounding as Thoracic Outlet Syndrome or Irritable Bowel Syndrome to me, but I'm just the patient trusting that the MD's know what the heck they are talking about.... 😆.
      I agree, the agreed upon shoulder surgery (for slap tear) seemed very questionable after I got home from appointment and started researching it.
      Fortunately but Unfortunately, I rely 100% on the Veterans Administration for my Health Care. Although, the previous and upcoming surgeries were/will be done by a community surgeon through the VA's Community Care Program. The EMG/NCS & Cervical MRI was done in house VA. So, I'm not really sure how I'd go about getting a second opinion. Also, if a second opinion is possible, the time waiting for that second opinion would more than likely be months - considering that it generally takes at least three weeks just to see my primary MD.
      I know you can't offer medical advice/opinion via YT, etc.. but I can appreciate that we both tend to wonder about the upcoming (Feb 23) surgery. I had plans on doing more research into the slap tear procedure and how it could, if it could at all, be helpful in relieving my symptoms... Just too many "??" after my initial researching it.
      Thank You Kindly!

    The numbness wakes me up. Five years of data entry; with pain and tenderness at elbow, up to top of shoulder. I eased up when I was laid off the job. Then years of crochet, sewing, repetitive movements. I did too much hammering one summer, and suffered impingement. I fell once and hurt my ribs and diaphragm. Just worn out, especially the right shoulder and arm.

    Very informative doctor, but I also like to know if the tingling goes up to the head on one side , like a little behind the ear but closer to the spine, can it be a sign of high blood pressure or a stroke ..

    • @PrincetonSpineJointCenter
      @PrincetonSpineJointCenter  Před rokem +2

      That's a great question. As you might imagine, there are lots of potential causes for symptoms like tingling in the head. Definitely if you are concerned about a stroke, you should call your doctor immediately. With that said, high blood pressure, pinched nerves, medication side effects and other problems can cause all sort of symptoms including tingling around the ear or head. The best thing to do is call your doctor and get checked out.

    Thankyou. Very informative. I live in NZ and have had trouble with my neck, shoulder, elbow and left hand for years. First I was told my C5 was misaligned and there was nothing they could do. When I complained about the pain was told I'm mentally ill and there was nothing wrong with me, yet given codeine and morphine for the pain they said I wasn't experiencing. 5 years have gone by and I can hardly use my left hand and now my right hand is slowly going bad. Still told there's nothing they can do. Have been waiting for a nerve assessment for 3 years but am told it's not urgent and to be patient.
    I've all but given up hope and resigned to living with this excruciating pain forever. I freed lieng down in my bed every night as I know the pain will wake me multiple times nightly. Death is looking good.

    Numbness, tingling, PLUS awful swelling....possibilities?

    • @PrincetonSpineJointCenter
      @PrincetonSpineJointCenter  Před 2 lety +8

      That's a great question. Many nerve issues like carpal tunnel syndrome can certainly also present with swelling. However, swelling may be consistent with nerve issues but it is not typical of nerve issues and so the first thing you want to do is to make sure to go to your doctor and rule out any other sorts of issues such as vascular or lymphatic problems. If something else is causing the swelling, the swelling itself can then be putting pressure on the nerves which then causes the numbness and tingling. Basically, with swelling as one of the symptoms along with numbness and tingling, go see your doctor to get checked out.

      For what it's worth, (and I realize it's many months later!) I've been seeing an occupational therapist, and she has been incredible.
      Within the first few minutes of our first meeting, she noticed things that I've never had pointed out before or even noticed myself(and I look at myself in the mirror everyday, so no blame pointed at anyone I've seen prior to her!) - such as my right shoulder being significantly lower than my left. Pretty crazy difference, and once you see it, you can't "unsee" it!
      After a few suggestions and following up with her recommendations about seeing another specialist, and after having an emg, xrays, and mri- it's been suggested that my issues are, in fact, nerve related. I hope you're able to find some answers and some relief. If you've never been to an occupational therapist, maybe it'd be worth a shot for you, too! :)

I have a continuous day and night pain in my right shoulder down my entire arm into my hand and ny arm and hand starts stinging badly. The pain also goes under the side if my under arm also.The pain is definitely not the pain i feel when my neuropathy flares up. This new pain i have been having well over a week now is way more painful. I had surgery a few years back of removal of a Volar cyst in my right inner wrist but this pain doesnt feel the same as that pain either.

I went down really hard and ever since then two months ago it’s been burning and tingling. I have been doing physical therapy and it seems like the physical therapy is not helping at times after my treatments. The condition feels worsened more pain, more burning sensation, and the doctor tells me today two months of treatment I should not be experiencing those symptoms. My hand is damaged and they won’t cover any x-rays.
