    I cringe everytime I think of 07. It was the year when NASCAR started the screw with my emotions. I felt cheated and ripped off as a fan. Jeff did better than anybody this season, and instead it was forgotten about and Jimmie overtakes the spotlight. And 30 top 10s. Cmon that's just robbery right there. I will always hate the chase with a passion.

      This is the year Nascar started a downturn. From 2008 onward, Nascar has lost fans and popularity each and every year. Chase made me swear off of Nascar

      Yeah, this is where I hate the Chase. It hurts drivers like Jeff Gordon who are the drivers that do well all season and then have nothing to show for it and guys like Jamie McMurray who could be top 10 drivers in the standings if they had the old system.

    • @coderider9019

      Nascar alienated the fan base. I was born near India, grew up here since I was 4, and I got hooked on to Nascar around 97, and Gordon was the reason I became a fan. And even I felt cheated once the chase started. Only watched cuz of Gordon, once he retired, so did I. Nascar needs to back to having a personality. Right now, non of the drivers have that.

    I hate virtually every rule change that NASCAR has made over the last 20 years. Getting rid of the old points system is the worst decision they could have ever made. What's ironic is they were trying to eliminate boring end of season point races brought on by dominant performances by forcing parity, but that's what ultimately strangled the growth of the sport. Parity is great for the NFL because teams are represented by cities, the more cities that are competitive, the more the populations of those cities buy tickets. NASCAR doesn't work that way. Drivers aren't represented by a particular city or market. Nobody gives a shit if David Reutimann has an equal shot at the championship. His 5 fans don't make a difference. The sport thrives on dominating performances by a few stars.
    The problem with introducing parity is that dominating performances is what built stars. Stars and dominance drew crowds. The biggest boom in NASCAR came when Earnhardt went to the black car and won 4 championships in 5 years, kicking everyone's ass - which drew fans. Jeff Gordon comes in and wins 40 races and 3 championships in 4 years, destroying everyone in his path - which drew fans. Too much parity means there are virtually no dominant seasons any more. Everyone is too equal. Competitive engineering (some would call cheating) is completely mitigated. Nobody can pass, the champion has 4 wins. RIP NASCAR.

  • @nascarfanatic2425
    @nascarfanatic2425 Před 7 lety +7

    You know, I just realized that half of Jeff's wins came in the COT that year. lol He also had a better average finish in the gen-4 car than that of Jimmie Johnson, (8.8 to 14.5) a better average finish in the COT than that of Jimmie Johnson, (5.5 to 6.9) led more laps, (1300 to 1290) got more top-5's, (21 to 20) more top-10's, (30 to 24) and had fewer DNF's. (1 to 4) All in all, there's only 3 areas where Jimmie beat Jeff that are worth bragging about: Jimmie got more wins, (10 to 6) completed more laps, (10,318 to 10,240-- provided that info is right) and he earned more Chase Points. A big part of that was having 2 more wins than that of Jeff going into the chase, and winning 4 races in a row at the most convenient of times.

    I'm not sure that Gordon would have quite seven championships if the chase never existed, or that Johnson would have only 3, Johnson specifically strategized for the chase better than anyone. If he put all his effort toward consistency under the old format, being as great a driver as he was, I think he'd have at least 5 championships. However, I can't see Gordon possibly losing the 2007 season, he was just too good. Whether he'd win 2004 or 2014 is up for debate. As is whether Johnson would keep his 2008 and 2010 championships. I doubt he'd still have his 2016 one. I think we can all agree that the chase is just a really bad idea.

    93 wins and 4 championships. He should had more championships. He was fucking amazing during the winston cup era, but nextel/sprint with new playoff format fucked him up. But the same thing is happening to Jimmie Johnson but much worse than Gordon. Gordon was still winning races after 2003 and seasons like this proved that. But Jimmie Johnson is having so much trouble now in this new era of NASCAR. I mean Jimmie placed 28th at Michigan last week. This just proves how fucked the points system is in NASCAR. Jimmie Johnson hasn't even won a race yet this season, and he usually does. The young guns are having so much trouble competing in NASCAR because they dont have enough experience. Carl Edwards, Dale Jr, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth(even though he's racing part time.) All the good drivers are gone and there is no more competition in the sport anymore. All it is is Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, and Martin Truex Jr. There seriously needs to be a change in NASCAR because nobody is watching it anymore and Brian France just doesnt listen. He doesn't give a shit about the sport and you can see the effect its having on it. Take out stage racing, bring back the Gen 4 cars because those looked way better and it would solve the aerodynamic issues with the cars. Bring back the old point system, and NASCAR will be better than ever. Also, there was no point in having the COT. They literally could have made Gen 4 cars safer. No need to change the way the car looked. It was also butt fucking ugly and looked retarded. Sorry for the long ramble.

    Gordon was easily the champion that year! Nascar went to a broken fuckin point system in 2004 that totally changed what the histroy of nascar should be! This system stole titles from drivers who deserved them and gave more titles to drivers that didnt and dont tell me the 'champs' from 2004 to the present day still deserve them because they dont! The chase no longer rewards consistency which for how many decades was a fundamental part of what nascar is! Gordon was 312 points ahead of 2nd place tony Stewart in 2007 before the field reset(joke)! When the field reset he wasnt the leader Johnson was because jimmie had more wins! What a fuckin JOKE! Gordon worked all those races was the most consistent driver by far for absolutely NOTHING! Gordon should have been the champion in 2004, 2007 and 2014! Gordon should have 7 titles and in my kind he does because thats what the REAL history of nascar would be and Johnson would only have 3 titles, Hamlin 3 titles, harvick 4 titles and carl Edwards would have 2 titles! The chase is a joke and is giving, literally giving titles to drivers that dont have to be consistent until the end of the year, its totally broken and a joke! I will never say jimmie is a 7 time champion let alone the greatest driver of all time! Gordon should be the greatest driver of all time! Even though dale is the greatest driver of all time, jeff is ghe best driver of all time! The real history of NASCAR is gordon IS the greatest of all time! 2004-2023 champions....all a joke!
