    Apparently if you hold the battery level button on the case while it's open, it'll smoothly ramp brightness up until it hits turbo. Oddly the flashlight itself doesn't have that feature.
    In addition, you can press the battery level button on the case to make it charge another device from the internal battery. So you could, for example, charge your phone with it. That's a pretty big deal.
    I hope you're feeling better than when you recorded this video.

      Damn, I had no desire to upgrade until I read that. A generic power bank feature means not carrying a separate one as well. Though a separate one can pack a bigger and longer punch. Do you know which modes it can do? PD? QC?

    • @pepstein
      @pepstein Před 7 měsíci

      @@fredio54 I don’t know. The manual only says 5 volt 2.4 amps max for USB-C output. It doesn’t mention protocols. Given the fact it’s always 5 volts, I’m guessing no PD or QC.

    I work in network racks a lot and the Olight Baton3 has been perfect for working in dark racks. Turn it on, slap it to the roof of the rack and it illuminates the entire back end of a rack so I can work on servers. I keep my Baton3 on one of their o-ring magnet mounts hooked onto a belt loop on my khakis so it's always there when I need it. I also have another Baton3 but it's the 90-degree angle one that I can slap on the side of the rack and angle the light right onto the back of a server when I'm working on it. Fantastic lights for rack work.

    I really wish Olight would start using some 519A or SST-20 4000K emitters in these small EDC lights. I have a couple of Batons already so this one's a pass for me.

    • @Aerox90
      @Aerox90 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Yeah high CRI emitter are the only thing I miss now that Olight has started offering dual charging methods (the classic magnetic tailcap + USB-C in the same flashlight).
      A Nichia 519A or Samsung LH351D in 4000K and 5000K would really be the cherry on top! 👌

    • @cheule
      @cheule  Před 7 měsíci +7

      High CRI comes at a cost of lumens. Olight isn’t willing to give those lumens up. So for now it’s up to flashlight modders to stick the emitter you want in the Olight model you like.

      It would cost them nothing to have it as an option like they used to on their original lines. They 100% know that we have been asking for this for years now so I'm almost certain that they are deliberately using the obnoxious tints as some sort of strange toxicity.

    • @alextaplin7354

      @@cheuleAt least to me that lumen difference is unnoticeable in actual use. I can see why they want to entirely for marketing purposes, they are after all always very accurate with their lumen claims, but it would cost them nothing to offer us a better tint as an option.

    As to your point of the point of having the case as the home for the light. I love it. It’s why a like my streamlight stinger so much. I know it’s older and big, but cradle charging is awesome it’s always at 100% because it is either in my hand being used, or it’s in the charger. But this is better in a way because its “home” is portable as well. That being said, the case has its own battery, not mains. So that is a downside compared to a cradle

    The OLight Baton 3 kit Nylon case has always been slightly oversized IMHO. But its flexibility allowed me to make a couple of folds on the flap to house the larger Baton 4 kit. It's not ideal, but workable; unless Olight comes out with a better case for this new kit.

      Yeah, that's the thing with Olight. They'll bring out a new version in a few months and make the previous one look bad. In reality the older versions are equally relevant. The only major upgrade I've seen from them has been the M2R to M2R Pro, I'm still running that light and it's still beating most competitors (mostly on UI, beam pattern and aesthetics) I have no desire for any of the "upgrades" even thought there are 3 or 4 new versions since. I also love the original NW H2R over any of the Peruns easily.

    The case is cool, but I don't know why you would get the case, and not just get a light with a bigger battery. A bigger baton is still a smaller package, but gives you more lumens and candela. I guess if you used the battery pack to charge your phone as well… idk it is really cool, I just don't see a use case for it. Maybe if you always have a bag nearby that the case can sit in, and you set the bag down and keep the tiny light in your pocket?

    • @krazYFaic
      @krazYFaic Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'd probably use the case more on a daily basis to top up my phone than the light itself. But I'd be safe knowing there's a powerful little light in there if I need it. With the Baton 3 case, you could argue against getting the case because it didn't charge anything other than the light, but with this the case is a no brainer.
      That said, I carry at least 4 flashlights all the time anyway but for regular people or if I wanted to trim down my EDC, this would be a great option.

      If you are never off grid or without a nearby power outlet...or spent any amount of time with a power outage... these cases obviously won't have any use for you. You simply aren't in the market they are aimed at.
      The primary use case (to me at least) for the old Baton 3 case... was to have a wireless charging station for your light when you are "off grid" or during a power outage. Sure you could have a larger light with a larger battery... but having the ability to separate that capacity from the light means the smaller light is more handy in tight spaces or as a hands free light. For example while illuminating something inside a "cabinet" while maintaining a vending coffee machine... you can get the light directly on the component you are working on behind several other layers of circuit boards a boiler...etc.
      The batons make great hands free hat lights "because" of how small they are. You can "kinda" do the same with larger lights... but not as comfortably.
      With the new Baton 4 case... it's just added backwards compatibility to several other existing lights in the same size range. The fact that the case also acts as a battery pack for phones and other devices just makes it better. Here in Florida we have these "little" storms called hurricanes that do incidental stuff like knock out the power for a week when they do enough damage to the grid.
      Having another other means of keeping my devices going is always nice.
