  • Following on from their THEOS Wireless system, DEITY will soon begin shipping the PR-2 pocket recorder. This recorder looks like a small wireless transmitter pack to which you connect a lavalier microphone (or a line level audio source via 3.5mm plug). However, this is an audio recorder. And more specifically, a 32-bit float recorder with timecode sync capabilities. In this session, we'll take an initial look at the PR-2 and listen to some samples recorded with the included lavalier microphone.
    If you’d like to learn how to make great dialogue audio for your film and video projects, please have a look at my courses at school.learnli... including processing dialogue audio in Adobe Audition and DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight, recording sound, how to use the Zoom F4, F6, F8, and F8n, and how to get the most from the Sound Devices MixPre series of recorders. We have a course on sound for live-streaming with the ATEM Mini, Introduction to Izotope RX for Dialogue Audio, and Mixing fundamentals in DaVinci Resolve Fairlight.

    PR-2 Locking / Unlocking is done by triple clicking the yellow button on the side. This is similar to the TC-1 which also need the side button triple clicked.

      Will the record button disable if you lock it? As in, you initiate recording on the device, then lock it. It cannot stop recording unless unlocked, correct ? Otherwise I’d still be worried about an accidental stop to recording by the wearer.

    I have been using the PR-2 jam sync with my camera, but it looks like the timecode is active only for 12h. if I turn the recorder off and then power it back up in between the timecode is back to all zero after 12h.
    the wireless mic pro still goes, just like the camera. With my setup, I am not interested in a Deity TC-1

    Great that you’re looking into this recorder! Love to hear about the noise levels AND the ‘choice’ of 24 bit in stereos, vs mono. Is stereo an afterthought? How’s the noise and audio performance of the stereo (24bit) recording? My usage would be mainly urban field recording with loads of dynamics. Oh and hows this lav? The previous version of their lav was disappointing? Is this a new version of the lav?

    • @LearnLightAndSoundSessions
      @LearnLightAndSoundSessions  Před 21 dnem +1

      Subjectively, noise levels are good with the included mono W.Lav pro. Overall sounds pretty good - will have the full review out in the next few days.

    I could be wrong but I think the switch on top is mentioned on their product page. I believe this explains what it does. MIC PASS THRU
    The PR-2 features a toggle switch on the top that allow you to pass the microphone PiP from the output thru to the input. This means you can daisy chain the PR-2 with a transmitter so you can add recording functionality to any transmitter you might own. This also means even if the PR-2 is turned off, the transmitters PiP is still passing thru to power your lavalier.

    Thank you Curtis. This looks awesome! I've been looking for a 32 bit float wearable that can replace my little Tascam. Would this do as a 32 bit float back up recorder for a compact phone rig? Was thinking it'd be a good companion to my Sony Xperia 1 VI which has all the features of a DSLR including an audio out port (and a shutter button...and micro sd). Do you think this could be a mini external recorder for a rig like that which gives a 32 bit float backup? I think the phone can receive audio as well as send so perhaps this recorder could make the phone 32 bit float by acting as the first line of audio in. It would be great if the phone could use timecode too...wow that would really be a mini rig! If this is unsuitable, do you know of another that might achieve this? I have the Sony vlogging handle and vlogging screen plus the mini Deity dual mic. it's very compact and I'm hoping to keep it that way but still be able to add an ultra compact light and sound recorder. The phone can record directly into the mini jack and the vlogging screen also has a mini jack so I'm sure there's gonna be a way to do this. Sony are a bit crap at answering questions and are bad communicators but I will also be asking them after your sage advice...Let me know your thoughts if you are not too pressed for time. Thanks as ever, Curtis. You are one of the most giving influencers in this space. I will be returning to your courses soon, especially now you are covering DaVinci. keep it up brother and thanks to your family too. Cheers, Al x

    why can’t anyone with an early unit answer the most interesting questions i’ve watched like 4 of these:
    1. how far is the bluetooth monitoring range in reality? real world testing.
    2. can you bluetooth monitor the audio to headphones while recording?
    3. on the US unit - as soon as you hit record on the device the 3.5 headphone output cuts off? very unclear by the site and reviewers but even this doesn’t happen on their theos lavs.

      First, you might try using a friendlier tone, rather than an exasperated tone. 😀
      1) Depends on a million factors, but 250' is a reasonable estimate in my experience.
      2) Yes, you can monitor via the Sidus Audio app while recording on the US version
      3) Yes, on the US version, as soon as recording starts, the output jack stops sending audio.

    • @evanthecameraman
      @evanthecameraman Před měsícem +2

      The Rode Wireless Pro is not a true timecode device. It must always be communicating the TX and RX to constantly jam sync. This device can work as a standalone recorder with no need to have constant communication with another device.
      The tentacle track e devices would be the closest competition. They, however, don’t have a screen so it’s mandatory to use the phone app to know what’s happening and the gain I believe only goes up to +9dBu which to me is limiting.
