    Great video on a lovely Welsh river. Good to see brown trout of that stamp thriving in these rivers, would have been unheard of a few years back.

    Great video, and what lovely river to have close to home. I live on the west coast of Ireland and enjoy the wild brown trout too. My question is, do you think if you fished at team of traditional wets/spiders across and down on the swing through the same pools you would have connected with as many fish? I find it difficult to know what "nymph water" looks like so always resort to fishing downstream on the swing

    • @RhysFishes
      @RhysFishes  Před rokem +1

      I definitely think I would have connected with fish but not as many. Wets and spiders definitely have their place and day on the river. But there’s a reason why euronymphing styles dominate most competitive angling these days. They simply offer a better catch return (and are easier to adopt) than more traditional styles of river fishing.
      My first successful days fishing on the river came drifting down and across a sweeny todd and march brown with my dad when I was around 8 years old. Still remember that day like it was yesterday.

    Great to see you back Rhys.
    I spent most of last Winter watching your vids and putting your advice into action from early Spring. Had the best seasons Trout fishing ever !
    Even managed to pass some of the knowledge onto a couple of Welshmen on the Brenig, marvelous feeling :-)
    Thanks again for the very informative vids.

    Beautiful brownies there!
    I am thousands of miles away (Western Washington State, USA) and we covet a nice brown here as well. We only find them in Stillwater's here as they are not native to our rivers. Or our continent for that matter...
    Love your content! Thanks for sharing.

    Very nicely paced & presented with key details emphasised. Captured the spirit of it and how much fun it can be when you get it right. What rod are you using, it looks perfect for the job? Thanks, Roger

      Thank you Roger. The Rod is a second hand Streamflex mk2 3wt. Hard to find these days but a lovely all rounder.

    Cracking Brownies there! Great to see you back Rhys. During lockdown I took up fly fishing and your videos were brilliant to learn from as I started on Stillwater. This year has been all river so it’s good to see how you do it and get some tips. Thanks for sharing your day

    Hi Rhys. Sorry i have just started watching you video's. They are awesome btw and have helped me catch so many fish in the still water. I have progressed onto the river to try and catch more brownies and hopefully some salmon when they start coming up the water. My question is what is the leader and tippet you are using for that set up. I heard 9m then it garbled for me. Thanks in advance.

    • @RhysFishes
      @RhysFishes  Před rokem +1

      Thank you. I use a dohiku French leader but there are many choices out there. If you go onto tungsten beads plus, I find they have a good array of nymphs leaders to go with.

    We all love catching big fish, but Size doesn't matter when your chasing those River browns. Only a local angler to the river like yourself will appreciate the size and quality of those fish. Good angling and a cracking vid. It really isn't tough to learn this style of fishing, It's a shame we dont see many youngsters wanting to learn.
