This, and "All That Glitters" are two shows I wish somebody would put into reruns. Mary Hartman was all the more surreal because there was no laugh track or musical accompaniment to force an emotion from the audience.
I was a gay teen when this show was on the air. In this days, you would have been crucified if anyone in high school knew. And this was in California. Sometimes the good old days weren't so great. But some things do get better.
I missed these shows while in the college dorms. (no tv). They were very ground breaking at the time. At 1:07 I love how Mary says "two adulting consents" and keeps right on going. Thanks for posting. \
I loved Mary Hartman and because of her chacter and the way she reacted every tricky issue could be dealt with in an intimate way all the time going hence and forth between hilarious and extremely painful. Really 'more' is said in a few lines in Mary Hartman Mary Hartman then in most modern plays...

Every character on this show was neurotic, psychotic, or bi-polar. Love it!

they are remaking this with Emily Hampshire from Schitts Creek playing Mary Hartman.
Jesus, I just noticed the lack of sound. It's that, and the fact that Mary is clearly drugged the entire time that makes it so wierd.
