  • Wasnt a massive fan of this one. Amazing chorus brought down by an odd tune and mediocre lyrics

I really like this track but it took time to grow on me. I like the synths and raw sounds. it was good live too.

It was my favourite song from the album when I was growing up. Still one of my favourites now, but my #1 is FRAGILE TENSION

I prefer this song live, they changed the pitch of the instrumental which actually makes it better, it's on the bonus songs because they did it during the other date from the main concert

It is a nice song. Definitely will grow with more listening, like I didn't understand the tune at first, but later I really liked it.

I remember in an interview in 2009 Dave said that Martin would always go mental about the song titles and didnt want them to have the same titles as other songs and he said that Martin had said to him while they were producing this song when it was still called Miles Away " did you know theres a Madonna song called Miles Away? " and thats why they changed it to Miles Away / The Truth Is

The back sound of guitar is Martin playing by metal bowl (there is a video).

Like this just for intro! Somewhere parts are not good, but in general it’s OK (I understood this song on the second time). I don’t like electronic music in fact (especially modern), but DM showed me its beauty by their songs and musical experiments, they always can give you atmosphere by live instruments, synthesisers and even random sounds (got the moves!), unfortunately they’re not early Pink Floyd with a lot of modern keyboards (sometimes I think about mix of all the “In Your Room” versions, which could last more than 10 minutes, like “Echoes”). So I don’t prefer this album due to my taste, but it’s not so bad though it has some disadvantages. It’s still Depeche for me. Keep waiting for Memento Mori and One Night in Paris….Thank you for reaction!

There's so much dissonance in the instrumentation and harshness on the high end. I wonder if Martin has had hearing loss that is impacting his ability to properly hear the cacophony present here.

This would have been a good album if they skipped Daves three songs and replaced Corrupt with Ghost

I actually like Corrupt and Dave's songs are good, it's just the Video to Hole to Feed was horrible. Maybe this song or Perfect would be replaced by Ghost and Spacewalker be replaced by The Sun and the Moon and the stars, instrumentals to me should be b-sides anyways

Ha Ha Ha 😂!!! Your reaction is correct and it proves what I thought. This was written by Dave! Of course it's mediocre! Dave's lyrics sound like something an adolescent would write angrily in their journal. The music is good, I like the guitar and beat, and how about that cool drum sound? The Intro is killer with that high pitched siren sound almost like a hip hop song. The synth sound during the chorus you didn't like I think was played by Dave so there you go.

Yes the production is a mess...but the bones of this song are excellent ...

"Like a two year old hitting the synth- dah- nuh, dah- nuh, dah- huh." 😂😂😂
Your physical interpretation of 2 year old made me laugh so thanks for that Seph 😃👍
I will humbly say on the instrumentation: If Chaos (Khaos, Greek Goddess that was the very first entity in existence according to Ancient Greek Mythology) had a sound I'm pretty sure this would be it. Darkness does not always have silence and quite frankly if Khaos's offspring were Erebus (Darkness) and Nyx (who in turn begat Dreams, Death, War, and Famine), then I am gonna go ahead & assume that Khaos had a sound all her own.
I think this is as close as any mortal will ever get to reproducing it.
Also: I'm being entirely sarcastic so don't take any of the above with a feather's ounce of objective philosophical thought.
(That is if there is such a thing. I have no idea. At this point I'm just pulling sh*t out of my back end. I am trying not to be too vulgar here.)
    Okay down rambling now!
Thanks Seph for putting up with my vomitous wordage 🙏 You're a 🌟👌

It's an over produced cacophony. The foundation of the song and the harmonies between Dave and Martin are great as usual but the production makes the song unpleasant.

To me still one of the alltime low points in Depeche Mode‘s career. Dave‘s songs got butchered on this album. Fortunately, on future albums, his contributions are far stronger

  • @FredrikAndersson597

Raspy and shrill sound production - and thus very rigid and stiff.
Or as Alan roughly said in some interview when asked what he thought of Depeche Mode's music - after he left the band.
It's good, he said, but the rhythm and the groove are missing, it's very stiff, the sound lacks human elements and becomes very monotonous...
