I love Hank and Johns podcast but they’re very open about how their minds work creating difficulties interacting with people (and they’re both very competitive). This manifests in John as anxiety, but for Hank it comes out as bravado. Hopefully it’s harmless to those in his life

Shayne gets roasted so much for a guy who literally couldn’t be nicer, takes care of himself, looks great and is really funny and smart.
That's why they do it. As a person who is occasionally roasted by my friends and coworkers, it's an affectionate thing. I often give it back too. He's a genuine person and they love that about him and they know they can joke around with him. You wouldn't do that with someone who was a jerk or a person who was a wet blanket.

the way i compliment people without being creepy is by putting it at the very end of a conversation. compliment the cashier’s hair, and then LEAVE IMMEDIATELY so they don’t get the wrong idea lol.
That is what i've heard as a tip as well. Either that or in passing. And on things they can choose themselves. The hairstyle, the clothes, the vibe and style etc.
It's leaving immediately but it's also complimenting something that was their choice. Like their outfit or their hair, if it's obviously dyed or cut/styled, not their eyes or lips or any other part of their body!

Great rule of thumb: compliment something they have control over, like hairstyle or shirt choice! Not something they don’t like eye color or body type

Registered Dietitian here to debunk the brown rice debate!! The issue with brown rice is that it contains phytic acid (and lectins), an antinutrient. It makes it more difficult for your body to digest and also absorb minerals like zinc and iron. But, for most people, the nutrients brown rice offers far outweigh the absorption issues. Also, testing has shown that if you soak your brown rice for any extended period of time, then rinse before cooking, it removes the phytic acid. I googled "brown rice and arsenic poisoning"
and this is the Google summary: "The data demonstrated that inorganic arsenic concentration is 1.5 times higher in brown rice than in white rice. The expert panel concluded that the risk of exposure and associated health condition(s) increases proportionally with consumption and depends on the type of rice consumed.14 Jul 2023"

someone else claiming to be a dietitian said it was actually that it had a substance that interfered with zinc absorbtion and can be mitigated by soaking it. ita probably pretty easy to find the comment and check it.
@@uuh4yj43 it could be arsenal/arsen (I’m not sure about the English term), if I remember correctly soaking the rice in clean water helps to remove a good amount of it. The reason rice is infused with arsenal is because in the 70s it was used as a pesticide in the water, and only years Lee discovered that it’s very toxic and that the rice absorbed it because rice grows IN the water. When you remove the outer layer of the rice you remove most of the arsen/arsenal, but also most of the fiber and vitamins, which is what makes brown rice better then white rice. So eat white rice to avoid arsen and get your fiber from a less toxic source.

I've been trying to gather a timeline of who Hank recorded with while he was in Los Angeles/California. I think it was on the Sad Boyz podcast that he mentioned how busy he's been and how absolutely delirious he is because he's been so busy. If you pay attention to all of the stuff he's been in lately, you can see how progressively unhinged he becomes. It's so hilarious! I'm going to guess that this is at the tail end of the trip 😂

It's so funny watching this after watching the other podcasts Hank was on in LA. The contrast of research between Collin and Samir reading his 2002 thesis and 1990 essay on the future, and then Smosh where the entirety of research seems to consist of, "we watched some of your TikToks and I've seen your name on a book I think".
This isn't meant to be judgemental - I thought it was so funny how unprepared Amanda and Shayne seem to be for this interview. Thinking he's a twin, not knowing where he's from, asking him questions about TikToks John made thinking it was him 🤣🤣
It felt more like a conversation than like an interview which might have been on purpose? I'm not very familar with this podcast

Loved this episode and it has had a really positive impact on me. I have been in such a negative headspace lately about climate change and the state of humanity lately and Smosh has been my escape from that for the last while. Something about how Hank Green calmly and positively reminded us that good news is incremental and bad news gets noticed/amplified with the familiar voices of Amanda and Shayne has just been exactly what I needed to hear at this time. Definitely going to continue listening to SmoshMouth and Hank's podcast.
