Welcome to the world of Professional Wrestling. Slaughter lives his gimmick, but to my knowledge he never claimed it as Bob Remus, never said he earned the medals on his jacket, and never claimed VA benefits or anything similar in the real world. And you could clearly tell the interviewers were confused by his insistence on keeping kayfabe. It's not for me to judge his actions, I'll leave that to Don Shipley. Undertaker broke out about the time that was fading yet you hardly ever saw him in public as anything but as his character. While I can't help but agree with you in general, I also gotta cut Slaughter a bit of slack. He was an actor that, instead of playing a part in a movie, had to play it 24/7.
