I remember a private tour of the rigs in 28 in the seventies. I was an ECE with another regiment at the time. Thought they were incredible then. This would be tough going on a bullet swept bank.
These are the wagons which American troops tried to call an airstrike on in 2003 because they were iraqi scud launchers; slap bang in the middle of the the UK division! Says a lot about the septics!
The British rigs are stationed in Minden on the Weser. After the withdrawal from Hamelin and the end of the 28th RE Regiment, the 23rd Amphibious Squadron belonged to the 75th RE Regiment. Last year the German/British Pioneer Battalion was founded, so the British and German M3s basically belong together. But for us Hamelners it will always be our 28th Regiment Royal Engineers, simply unforgettable, the good times with the boys in the city.
great bit of kit...but not as much" fun" as building a heavy ferry on the river weser...at 3am... no pre-built ramp...dozing floation pontoons in with a 432 to save time while the old coles crane launched the floatation packs....and the "sheer joy "of having to go in the water to sort out a stuck locking pin ...all with no sleep for days..".sas who dares wins" try a bridging gallop with the re...oh happy days...and they were...baor early 70s...best party ever...those that took part will know what imean...!

That looks like the coolest job ever - like something out of the Thunderbirds!
😊
Best years of my life, 8 years on 2 tours, memories 😢
Hurrah for the CRE
Sehr schön. Leider konnte ich nicht dabei sein.

This is CAVEMAN TECHNOLOGY. Keep protecting wheeled vehicles because you cannot shift your brain to "ALL TERRAIN TRACKS"

Building a ponton bridge
wrong, this is no ponton.
Can they deal with rubber dingys? 🇬🇧
I recall 28 Amph Regt RE in Hameln……loading bridging rigs to rail flats out of Hameln. I assume post BAOR we no longer have a regiment?

@@glombski1972 Interesting….thank you. And Minden too for the rigs ……well well.
Did nearly 8 years on 2 tours with 23Aes. My best times in the ARmy.......would do it all again
What are they used for?
The M3 is used as a bridge or ferry to carry combat vehicles across rivers.
Song xe tang noi thi thang nhan chim khong thanh canh muon vbvvvggg 😊😊
Where is the location.
Ohr-Park Training Area near Hamelin / Lower Saxony/ Germany
Ну это вообще-то Германия, и что тут такого необычного, немного не понятно.
Fresh water or saltwater capable?
Both. Used in the BAOR back in the day for bridging the Rhine.
