Bresse chickens are great. We had about 7 of them that we raised up with some bourbon red turkeys, but predators took most of them. We have been wanting to get more.
I'm really enjoying them....hopefully we have plenty of hens so we can hatch out another batch!
We have hawks, foxes, wild cats and raccoons here. Our dogs were raised with mommas babies (the chicks) and the dogs are always out with them. That's our predator protection.
What makes the netting easy is if you put it away right. I move sheep with netting in 15-25 minutes by myself
So beautiful there, the chickens will really flourish now.
Loved those faces pecking at your camera. We have our lumber to build our mobile coop, just got to get it together. Blessings
Awesome, thanks for sharing and taking us along
Glad you enjoyed it
Cool video
Josh - I started with the dual spike netting 4 years ago. I HATE THEM based on the fact my ground is full of rocks and is so dry in the summer its impossible to get them in the ground. I got the single spike drivable netting and it is a blessing! Granted they are not as stable in a wet turf like when we get a good rain here. I have the extra posts to support the weak areas.
So dont bash the single spikes if it doesn't work in your ground or causes frustration.
yep....I just wait until after it rains...we're wrapped up in rocks too....sometimes I'll go ahead of the birds when the ground is wet and set up multiple little paddocks for them. I've used the single spike netting and I simply don't like it for my property.....it's a pain to install. Sounds like you need it though
If you hadn't built them such a nice trailer, they wouldn't mind leaving it.
Bhahaha
Howdy Josh, We use the hay forks on my tractor to keep the Poultry netting organized. Just lay the poles across the prongs as you pick it up and when you go to put it back down, it will come off untangled.
Great tip!
I like your new intro song. From everything I read and see this is an incredible breed.
Good morning!!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
For the aerial predators, one suggestion I would give is to place some crow decoys up on the roof of the coop.
LOL! Out, girls! 😂
Good job, Josh!
Bresse chickens an excellent choice.
Great job!!! Hope you have better luck with the predatory problems from a year ago!!!
You and me both!
I'm looking forward to hearing how these triple purpose chickens work out for you. Hope the electrofence keeps the foxes and other predators at bay.
Hey Josh thank you for the video and good luck with your chickens woo
really fun one Josh. Wooo!
Old adage from a farmer. he had a grey goose in with his flock to protect his chickens and turkeys. One or two geese will protect the flock...
I added Geese here and have not lost a chicken to an aerial predator since. The hawks were putting heavy pressure, I could not let them out of there run for an hour before we were getting dive bombs. Geese were the fastest to protect, I got a LGD who is still in training. The geese were protecting in months vs the dog who is just now being trusted alone at 1 year old.
From Malaysia .✌️😊✌️🇲🇾
Forget those chickens look at that stripping in the grass, awesome
thanks Bobby!
Was hear. Wooooo
*I watched one of Will Harris's CZcams video interviews where he stated that until he and his daughters at White Oak Pastures in Bluffton, Georgia decided to purchase a sufficient number of properly trained livestock guardian dogs that literally live inside of portable electric net fencing that encloses their mobile chicken, turkey, duck, and guinea hen tractors; they were seriously considering halting the raising of meat birds due to predation from hawks, eagles, ospreys, weasels, racoons, coyotes, skunks, and other opportunistic predators. Not to mention feral domesticated cats and dogs. He stated that the livestock guardian dogs, I can't recall which breed, reduced even the bald eagles, ospreys, and hawks from anything other than an occasional kill.*
Most people do not use livestock guardian dogs for chickens......sounds like they've got a plan...but it's not my plan. Everything likes chickens..it's the chicken keepers job to find a way to keep them safe. I won't use livestock dogs for my chickens....this fencing has worked out pretty good...if they have raptor problems..then they might consider a different coop design
100 chickens…I think I’d figure out how to evict the foxes.
Mr SR, what happening with Fern gully? Can we get an update next video along with when you plants on selling beef next? Also what month do you plan of getting pigs?
All you have to worry about now is chicken hawks , owls, etc...
Great video. I have been waiting for this day and to see if the foxes are deterred.
You and me both!
When you start putting the chickens in behind the Moo Moo's... will you be putting up that Premiere fencing every time you move the flock?
yep...a real pain in the butt!!!!!
I hope that works josh, I feel your pain. years ago we did the chicken and duck and turkey thing with the kids. I finaly gave up. fox's and red hawlk and coyotes.. I just could not win.
Your best bet is a dog that specifically lives in the flock to protect them. Buddy has to cover too much space.
I didn’t see the trailer build. Did you say why you didn’t make the floor with hardware cloth so the butt fertilizer falls through (mostly).
it's a brooder for chicks as well as a mobile coop. An open bottom can be dangerous for entrapment of feet and toes...ask me how I know!
👍
Least they didn’t “chicken out” by coming out.
lol
Had french bresse. 200-400 and processed for a 5 star restaurant.
We pronounced bress not brese. Fwiw
Should get black australorp chickens. Lay good and good combo chicken. Hawks dont mess with black chickens cause think crows. I like to keep a rooster that alerts of predators .
Also you can use old dog collar to attach 2 ends of fence together instead of zip ties.
sounds good...if ya have one laying around
👍🙋♂️❤️
What breed is this? I couldn't quite make out what you said. They are a multi-purpose breed?

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thank you!
One question all the equipment you have on your channel, is it yours or you preview iit?
As I would spend all day repairing things 😁
Greetings from Western Australia
G’day from South Australia
All of the equipment is mine except for the cast loader which is a loaner
Gday from Sydney, Australia
Do you feed the chickens any grain or store bought food or do they just what’s in the ground?
you've gotta supplement them with your food of choice...these are still young birds so we're feeding 18% protein chick starter
Ooo

Where I come from
It’s cornbread and chicken!
Man that beard is something else. Did someone tell you that that look good?
I learned not to put other people down in pre-school 👍🤔
Can we get less talking in next vid.
Yes….and the topic of manners is what we’ll discuss 🤣😉
A farmer who have time to do video is not a real busy worker farmer…….
👍
With over 1700 videos I must be the laziest farmer on planet earth right? 🤣👍
I didn’t see the trailer build. Did you say why you didn’t make the floor with hardware cloth so the butt fertilizer falls through (mostly).
link at the end of this video...it pops up during the bloopers.
