About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday, we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm. - Zábava
That first hen screamed like she was a star in a horror movie! 😂
Seriously! Wake the neighbors!!
@@GoldShawFarm I thought you were gonna eat them because of the red light 💀
Hes a regular Hitch-cock 😃
Meanwhile the one that barely made a fuss 😂
@@kyrab7914 😂
Opening to this vid is like a trailer to a scary movie.
Had the same thought. Love it!
"Chickens screaming in the night..."😂
Abduction of the chickenfolk😂
I thought it was a trailer for the zombie game 😅
I like how you coopted the word trailer
So true 😂
THESE are the voyages of the Starship "Chickencoop," her mission: to seek out new cow patties in new pastures...
I would get a layer of wire or hardware cloth over those doors. You have nice locks, but the mesh-screen thing isn't going to hold a coyote or other predator back at all, they'll just tear through it. A layer of wire will keep out predators but maintain the breathability of the screen.
Yes. I agree. Those doors are a recipe for disaster!!!
@@cindym7234 the coyotes think it is a recipe for chicken dinner, of course.
I think the electrical fense makes a difference.
Wow! Your new mobile chicken coop is awesome!!!
Thank you!
ABBY IS DOING SO MUCH BETTER AROUND THE CHICKENS; SHE IS JUST SO RELAXED AND CHILLED LAYING BESIDE THE COOP. GOOD GIRL ABBY!!!
I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps Her Ladyship sees the cattle as her peers and playmates and chickens and such as her charges. She's a fowl nanny dog!
Remember where she started when it came to birds? This is proof she's Abbysolutely capable of doing her job.
I know she had you on your toes the day you were rounding up the heifers, trying to film, but Abby really has come a long way in a relatively short time.
I do wholeheartedly believe she sees cattle as playmates. At least, the younger ones. She may need a kick in the ass from a cow at some point to realize they're the herd she's meant to protect and not the players in a pasture game of tag.
Really impressed with how much you've improved the farm and your methods since last year!
P.S. the Scottish Highland coos (c'mon! You gotta say it exactly that way or they don't understand what you're talking about) remind me of the bison here on the farm. The hair coming off in huge clumps. It's kinda my favorite thing to see. (Our big male loves when you give scritches to the shed spots.)
For generations the chickens will tell story's of what's the night of the abduction
Henaping! Right!
The calf butts the cow to get her to let her milk down.
Cats will butt your hand like that when you are putting food down for them if you aren't moving fast enough and they are hungry. Mammal behavior.
Morgan your carpentry skills have improved
From 20% tot 50%.
Thank you!!
Pam here…that tall coop was a disasterous tip over waiting to happen. Completely unbalanced. Glad for the more squat design.
@@GoldShawFarm Keep getting better 💪🏻!!!
Why were the chickens traveling in the coop upside down? 😊
Surprisingly, it's so entertaining to watch you. Even therapeutic. I grew up on a farm with an abusive dad, so a lot of sad feelings attached, but you and your fun comments are very healing. &; >
The first minute looked like a scary movie scene to a killer movie and the first chicken was scared out of its life
7:32 The image on the chicken door is actually the country of Slovenia (yes, it is shaped like a chicken), which is where the company making these doors is from
Use of an old boat trailer is perfect. It light, stable, large and because you don’t need to haul a boat does not need to be in perfect shape.
Chicken clucking in the dead of night, take this broken coup and learn to drive,
All night long, you were only waiting for this moment to be free. Lyrics by Paul McCluckney.
These automatic doors always crack me up XD the designers used the logo/silhouette which Slovenia uses for its advertising etc and of course cause Slovenia is shaped like a chicken for real, every time i see these doors they trigger my Slovene happy hormones XDD
I went back and looked. Yep! It looks more like a map than a chicken now to me. A chicken-shaped map.
Love the intro man! 😂 Also really feel the busyness, overwhelm, and potential burnout! Sometimes we just gotta hold ourselves back. Can't wait to see you try for the big pumpkin though 😁
Very well said, bud!
I’ve seen people use paint trays with silicone nesting pads to make their own roll away nest boxes.
That is a brilliant idea!
Farmers come up with ways to do the job, because THEY are farmers, lol.
I always get a laugh and a giggle at your word inventiveness and your film editing.-
Someone else with a huge cattle population swears by the Dung Beetle.
Betty Rubble is one gorgeous girl!!!! Can't wait to watch her as she grows up. Thank you Morgan.
I think the new coop looks very good, I could never come up with something like that off the top of my head, you're getting so much better at building!
The new coup looks functional and the chickens have more space, at least it seems that way to me,lol. Good job Morgan, all is well at Gold Shaw Farm. Thanks for taking us along.🐓🦆🥚🐕🔨👍❤️
I see areas of that wire floor where predators might be able to push their way in from underneath. I'd consider adding some edging like what you have to support the nesting boxes, but all the way around to sandwich in the edges of the flooring and make it more secure.
The beginning is a whole horror movie by itself. Oh, those screams. I, too, would scream like that if someone grabbed me in the middle of sleeping. Really nice ladder, but I thing a whole one would've been more comfortable for them.
Amazing to watch the progress and learnings over the years
I can tell you're clucking proud of yourself after successfully completing a "World's Most..." project with your own two hands.
Nice chicken coop Morgan
Your chickens don't seem all to pleased with the midnight raid. Lol!
In my opinion you should definitely take the mama and the babies to a safe place. Especially since all that rain took out all the ducklings last year
Some of those chickens cosplaying Bats during transport.
Love ALL your videos Mr. M as it brings back that cozy feeling of when I was very young when we all watched The Walton's..😊 You are a gem ♡
SuperGoodEnough !
Great visuals Morgan. The chooks were screaming he’s going to kill us and the seeing them step into the new coop and the surprise you could see in their stance was fabulous. There was definitely a what the heck! I’m sure you will sort it all out. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Very funny how some girls were hanging upside down during the move!!
Love your updates Morgan. I know for me, I can't help but admire your achievements over the years. Plus, it also means we get to watch the circle of life happening on the farm. Thank you for your dedication to us for keeping your channel going ❤
If chickens were to describe what an alien abduction would be like, you captured it.
Your vids always make me feel so warm ❤and cozy. Like when Gramma brings in the fresh out of the❤ oven cookies and tea. Luvya Morgan and the whole big gang now.
5:07 Screw driver as a box cutter. Classic. 🤘
Your woodworking skills are incredible! Each piece you create is a work of art. Keep up the amazing work 👏
Please scatter some Herb seeds, they do wonders for your chickens... Like Fennel Herb is an egg stimulant, probably help with the Geese in laying more eggs than how they've performed so far... Anyway great content as usual
That ending was funny! My favorite thing about the chicken coop are the doors! It's awesome that the animals are doing well.
I would strengthen the doors with wire mesh. I might be wrong but from the looks of that material mesh it looks easily tearable for coyotes
The walls of the new coop are too bare. TIME FOR MORE STICKERS!!!!
Hello Mr Shaw, replace the roosts with a 4" x1" withthe flat side up to help the chicken to warm their feet in winter. At least, round off the edges of the present roosts. Looks a bit sore...
Those ducks sure can move fast when food is involved! What keeps the ducks and geese from flying away? (I'm new here. You might have explained this in an earlier video.) Thanks for this video, Morgan!
These domestic type of ducks are not built to fly, but for meat and egg production. They are too bottom heavy. Ralph the call duck can fly, as he is a different breed.
@@gracedawn Thanks! I walk my border collies along a waterway with lots of wild ducks and Canadian geese. They always take off when we pass. Not flying was the first thing I noticed in these videos.
Idea for next chicken coop....get a small motor home /camper, clear out all furniture, use the window openings for the hatcheries and...tadaaaaaa😅
Betty Rubble is so pretty. We can’t help preferring the more attractive animal, its nature. You take care of them equally well though.
Morgan: stealing chickens in the dead of night
Cats: so nice to see you keeping our schedule!
You have to remember you have a lot more animals on the farm this year vs in the past. Chill with a good routine for a few seasons and then grow some monster pumpkins! Love watching you as always 😊
😂 the run chicken sticker is Slovenia 🇸🇮
(it’s a running joke, the country is shaped like a chicken 🤷♂️)
and of course, went looking, it’s a company from Ljubljana, my home town 😅❤
❤ Morgan, you have become quite a coop designer and builder. Keep up the great work. ❤
Loved the intro.
I have a couple questions about the coop.
- How is the cloth door secure? Pretty much any critter could rip through them.
-how do you access the entire interior of the coop? With only the 2 doors, it looks like a huge part of the coop is inaccessible.
Otherwise, I like it. The boat trailer is a great idea.
You did it! You are getting so much better at building what you need on the farm.
I watched this video up at Lookout Mountain over Denver Colorado. I am driving 🚗 an Amish family on a once in a life time western adventure.
I almost wet my pants laughing when you spooked that chicken at the beginning 😂
What is this darkness at night, I haven't seen that in at least a month... Feels weird. (greetings from Finland)
7:35 Run chicken is a great investment!
It will be a good idea to scrape the new compost and let it finish composting. Fresh poultry compost can be a bit too salty for vegetables before it finishes its composting process.
The old compost is less salty because the snow and rain help dissolve high salt levels.
The soil beneath the coop should be rich with leached nutrients and you should add the old compost from last year, so the cycle continues.
the start of the video just gave me horror movie vibes and now i am conviced you could be a relly good leatherface for halloween
Morgan- On the broken axle- Why not just lift the frame & All up the tractor forks and place the coop on blocks. Unbolt the axle and replace it with one from Harbor Frt, Tools or Tractor supply. Try to match the axel bolt pattern with the rim pattern from the broken axle. Or take the axle and have it welded up and reinforced. I am betting Alfred can do the wwelding.
Morgan put some wire mesh on the doors too same as the floor, predators will rip through that cloth (ive seen em rip through thin chicken wire even)
When the chickens are being transported
I always wonder what they are thinking 😅
🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔🐓
Goldshaw farm aw wow Nice Chicken coop
I liked the edit from night to day with the rooster call, very nice!
I bet some followers with chickens would be willing to buy and use the retired coop as it functions great as a coop and would do very well if not having to be maneuvered the way you were.
EXCELLENT use of music in the opening 🎶
New coop looks great and vary maneuverable!
Definitely woke those chickens from a sound sleep. Keep that recording for one of your scenes! 😮. That is a really cool coop, sure you wil get your $ out of it! 👍 Seeing the flies on camera, wow
Fix that axle ? Lift the coop with the tractor forks. Set the coop on (concrete) blocks. Fix from underneath. And put hardware cloth on the new coop doors.
I hear to grow massive pumpkins you have to bury your vines after they form
You should show us the new residents you have in your hoop-coop.
The bats are adorable and great to reduce inspect population.
Can’t wait for the next video. Summertime is a lot more interesting than wintertime.
Before you plant pumpkins, are you going to make sure you have inside fencing to prevent the birds from coming in like last time?
Boy the Boat trailer work out very well for a light Chicken Coop.......Thanks Morgan for all of your excellent Gold Shaw Farm video's......
Old F-4 II Shoe🇺🇸
next year don't by boat trailers buy car/truck axles from the scrap yard, and ask if they have any metal for sale make your own mobile platform to build off.
The ducks are fun to watch and the chicken coop moves well and looks like a good design
Duck Swarm...sounds like a punk band.
Nice to see how the design has evolved over time. I'm pretty sure the perches should be made of 2x4 because chickens put their feet flat and not around the wood.
Man good job on those Charolais. They always seemed mean when I was a kid working with them. We had one that would chase you out of the pen if you didn't have a zapper with you but she was aean a$$ cow to begin with.
Okayest?!?! LOL You crack me up Morgan!!
Thanks for the update❤😊
AWSOME JOB ON THE CHICKENS NEW TRAILER LOOKS GREAT
Great idea to use old boat trailers! Much better than a "farm cart" that doesn't have proper wheels for that type of load. Morgan having a chicken coop last more than 2 years challenge: accepted. The next level of savings come from using pallet wood where possible instead of buying lumber!
Colab with Carolina Coops, MORGAN! You need good solid coops!!
1 per pasture ... with auto doors and auto water... tgat way you can have breed specific coops for project birds to be separate.
Also you can have them make you a duck coop large enough for an aquascape pond inside!
He can make them to match the barns..
Also when are you gonna have someone come and repair the old barn and have it painted ... free spirit Equestrian installed some good stalls recently idk if that company does cow products but just the doors and windows would be great upgrades!
Always enjoy your videos!! Thank you!
The drill sounds in your montages remind me of the American Horror Story intro.
The boat trailer is a great idea! Very maneuverable ! Is there a way to secure those doors open? I’m picturing them ripping off in a sudden burst of wind! Hate to see the new coop get tipped or busted up.
From 10 years experience raising chickens I have a few little suggestions that may make a big difference. One is a wider roosts. Those seem kinda narrow. That will lead them to sleeping in nest boxes ( pooping in nest boxes and egg eating) and sleeping in other spots like the wire bottom. Your bottom wire is going to hold chicken manure. It's a shame you couldn't roll the coop off the trailer and it be bottom less. I have also had preditors RIP open the wire on the bottom. But make the most of it, since the wire is gonna collect poop... Make it easier to clean up maybe use some dry hay or straw in the bottom. Then you could take a garden claw and rake out the straw/poop. Lastly is the doors. They need some hardware cloth as extra protection.
Been watching your videos for a long time and can say you have improved on your building skills hahaha
Maybe there should be some sort of metal mesh over the doors... it seems its is only made of cloth that can be easily destroyed by a predator.
Outstanding opening😅 The horror of those first nappings! Hahaha!
Those first couple of minutes, complete with screaming chickens, were like a horror movie made especially for gallus gallus domesticus. I can just see all the chickens parked in front of an outdoor movie screen, miniature popcorn buckets beside them, screaming along with the movie.
Best Nest Box or HenGear are the rollout boxes you want. HenGear is a blatant knock-off of Best made from cheaper materials but also a couple improvements. They cost quite a bit more than Amazon-sold junk.
If you grow the biggest pumpkin in the world, you'll have to enlarge your door so you can get it out.
Loved the camera inside the coop as you were moving it. We dont get to see chickens anywhere when they are being moved .... they certainly don't look happy as they are jostling around.
crazy how the cayugas went from an iridescent black to speckled white.
Dear Farmer, Maybe I missed it but What's going on with the crows and their egg eating habits?
Could you use PVC pipe instead of wood to make it even lighter? CogHill has a roll nesting box they like
I worry about the pvc holding up over the rigors of a farming season.
I did find with my muscovy ducks that they did better raising babies in the flock if they had a feeding box that only the babies could get in. I just did lattice box big enough the adult geese couldn't put their heads through and steal the feed. I keep it full all day long so the babies get enough to grow quick, and fewer die. Once the lead duck figured out that is where the baby food is everyone else figured it out fast. The only be issue is watching for stuck older ducklings. Out of few hundred ducklings there is always one or two every year that get stuck. I tend to catch them quick on my rounds.
This year I did my duckling feeder under my quail cages so they eat flies and spilled feed, helps quite a bit with the flies and waste. I also added a small auto watering bowl, off my quail watering system the hen ducks have been better about waiting until the ducklings are a few days old before taking them on the water, which cut down drownings to 0 and only one group I had to rescue. (Those hens didn't want any of the help I had to offer, they were such bad moms that after a few babies died the other ducks kicked there butt and took their clutch. Splitting it between all the ducks would had clutches the same age)
Great job. Love watching your videos
Any new changes to chickens such as changing houses, you need to keep your chickens cooped up for at least a week so they learn that's their new home and will go in at night.
