How to create a digital planner + SAVE TIME

  • This video will show you how I use adobe Indesign to create digital planners. I have a couple time saving tips on how to create multiple pages and have text flow through out. (Without typing on all pages...for example, dates can flow from one page to the next. I also show how I use master pages, bookmarks and hyperlinks to save time.
    You can find already made planners at designerprinta...
    I used the following materials and apps to show you these time saving tips;
    Computer, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat Reader. The end result export is an interactive PDF that can be viewed and used in iPad note taking apps such as Goodnotes app and Notibility.

    Very helpful video. One suggestion in Excel to save a little time would be to use the SEQUENCE function. It would look something like this: In cell A1 put the formula =SEQUENCE(365,1,DATE(2022,1,1),1), where 365 = number of rows, 1 = number of columns, DATE(Year, Month, Day) = start number, and 1 = step size. Change the Year, Month, Day to your desired start date. Once you press enter, you will simply need to format the column with the desired date format.

    I knew there had to be a more sophisticated way to create digital planners. I love my Adobe programs. Canva may appear like a fast solution, but the "teachers" of the tutorials leave much to be desired. A 15-minute lesson is presented as one-hour, rather clumsy, videos - ugh! Besides, Canva feels like stealing someone else's work every step of the way. THANK YOU for being the grown up and for being original!

    Great Tutorial. When you create a second master page - now known as Parent pages, you can base it on your original - so your B master should be based on A master and it will contain all of your tabs so you don't have to copy and paste.

      @CarrieReagh Před 3 lety

      @@ChandraSkinner @DesignerPrintables The only thing with doing a data merge is you would have to create that first, then do a data merge (connecting it with a CSV file with box 1 having "date" and not the first date in the file or it will start with Jan 2) which will create the 365 page file. Then you can add the other pages. If you do a data merge with the other pages already included (cover, or whatever) when you do the data merge it'll add those too. Unless there's another way. ?

      I’m so happy you found this video helpful. I would think that the language would be selected in the settings of InDesign. Do you typically use InDesign in English? I wish I could help more…thank you for your kind words!

    I can get the text from the excel doc to show up but it only shows the first date on all of the pages, it doesn't show up in sequential order. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

      14:40 "Let's go down to page #2, jump cuts, and then says "Let's go down to page #3".... Is this where I'm messing up? When I go back to my pages, not in the "Master B", to add the text "to the page", the text doesn't stay in the box I created.

    Will this work on a phone app or PC not only an Ipad?

      You can use adobe in design or other apps like good notes and notability to create planners only using an iPad or tablet.

    Does the person buying the planner need to have Adobe indesign to access it? My goal is to sell on Etsy

      No. The person you sell the goodnotes planner to…does not need InDesign to access the planner. I only use InDesign to speed up the process of designing and building the planners. Good luck!!

      The data that is showing in excel...is what should import into indesign. Are you seeing all the dates in excel?

      @@designerprintables160 Hello there, thank you for this wonderful video and for explaining everything so well. Similar to Hazelrose, despite the fact all 365 days are showing in excel as you demonstrated, when I import the data to indesign, it only shows Friday Jan 1 on all the pages too. I would love to know how to fix this if you have the time. Thank you so much :)

      @@designerprintables160 Hi, I'm having the same issue. Excel data is showing all the dates but when I place into indesign all the pages shows as Friday, January 1, 2021. How would I fix the dates so that they flow correctly? Would love to know how to fix this as well. Thank you!
