    3:50 this can happen easily with chariot units or heavier single entities. Most people accomplished this by attacking the unit behind the unit they want to damage. The charge bonus and animation activates earlier and instead of charging and getting stuck in the ball of units, the chariot or single entities (or grail knight/guardian), they charge straight through. The damage was so crazy because the Mortis engine that the Gorgan was targeting moved just right that it charged laterally through the grave guard and curved along it perfectly to reach the Mortis engine.

    3:55 Just collision/impact damage, no collision attacks for the bloodbrute. 6500 mass means hitting the cap off 70 damage per entity run over. Sternsmen have 82 health per entity so massive potential damage over an exceptionally long charge like the one seen there. It's a mechanic that's been present since game 1 actually, just one that's far more noticeable given the greater number of entities on ultra and the fact that outside of situations like this impact damage gets applied a lot less. It was more prevalent before the knockdown rework and the cav beta.
    Not a bug but a fairly obnoxious mechanic imo, given it's 70% AP, makes no attacks rolls, and is basically only avoidable by standing still and hoping a charge animation doesn't get extended through an infantry unit. It's not consistently abusable so probably not worth addressing but beware SEM's with more than 5000 mass getting an extended charge through moving infantry.

    • @fendelphi
      @fendelphi Před rokem

      I mean, you can also counter it by blocking the movement with non-infantry(cav and above size). That way, SEMs cant run through your formations.
      Seeing as MilkandcookiesTW wants "better" SEMs, he probably does not want this utility removed.

    • @spellbound1875
      @spellbound1875 Před rokem

      @@fendelphi I'd rather shift power out of hard to utilize elements like impact damage and into stats personally. While you are correct that mass can block this type of damage it's both expensive and often unnecessary in multiplayer where setting up good impact damage with SEM's is quite difficult intentionally.
      People in campaign can do whatever they like but I suspect they'd also prefer if units just worked well rather than requiring a weird system where cancelling as many of the cool attack animations as possible to tell a unit to run back and forth was not necessary for optimal infantry killing.

    • @fendelphi
      @fendelphi Před rokem

      @@spellbound1875 Having size of units block the trampling does make for more interesting counterplay than simply "switch stats around" though. The cool attack animations are still common, because anything that you cant just run over will have to be fought "the normal way".
      It is rare that we see it to this extreme, but impact damage is a relative large part of the performance grade of cavalry, chariots and SEMs. "Trampling" is the easiest way for such things to deal damage to large formations and makes a lot of sense. It would take forever to deal with infantry without it(just do the math).

    • @spellbound1875
      @spellbound1875 Před rokem

      @@fendelphi Does it? Depending on your faction you may not have reasonable access to mass and realistically just throwing mass at a big SEM is often a value negative proposition in a vacuum (feeding empire knights to Skarbrand is not worth it because sometimes he 1 shots an infantry unit).
      As for impact damage being a relatively large part of the performance of a variety of units, not really. It's not nothing but it's maybe 20% on the high end for cavalry (and many situations see the low end of damage). For chariots it's closer to 40% but chariots sucking is largely explained by how much of their total damage comes from impact versus collision attacks. For SEM's impact damage used to be a secondary feature in game 2 before WS was effectively nerfed by ~30%. There's a reason most of the SEM's balanced for game 3 have more WS than the one's balanced for game 2.
      I know this because I have done the math and I find folks being so stuck on impact damage because it used to be more effective before the knockdown changes and the cav beta quite frustrating. It's not nothing but you could easily compensate for lowering the cap by 20 for most multi-entity units by buffing CB by ~5-10, especially when you note how swinging impact damage is. Notably that's basically what CA did for Jade Lancers and Winged Lancers pre IE when they weren't performing well enough with basically no balance impact outside of infantry performance.

    • @fendelphi
      @fendelphi Před rokem

      @@spellbound1875 Every faction has reasonbly access to mass. If your goal is to stop them charging through your lines, killing potential hundreds in the process, trapping SEMs with mass is a very common tactic, and very efficient in terms of cost.
      If you personally think Empire Knights are too expensive for that specific role(something they are commonly used for though), use Pistoliers instead. And if you do not think that blocking Skarbrand from running through your formations is worth the sacrifice, then exactly what is the issue? Him doing so is apparently less of an issue than losing a few knights.
      Relative is the keyword here.
      Better Charge Bonus? 10 extra CB does very little when dealing with chaff infantry. The Jade Lancer CB buff was because they had very low CB to start with(below 50). However, a lot of Cav has 60+ CB already, which combined with their WS means 80+ damage per hit that connects against low armor targets. In other words, adding +5 or 10 CB to a unit that already has 60-70 is not really going to make them better against most infantry. Same for most SEMs. Increasing their CB is not really going to make them hit noticably harder or easier against infantry or even other SEMs.
      Similarly, why should it not cause heavy damage, if you succeed in getting a heavy unit to trample through the enemy formation unhindered, knocking them around and down?
      And the reason why a lot of SEMs have a higher WS in TWWH3 is due to Ultra scaling being the norm. In TWWH2, their WS did not scale, only health.
