At least the older Pathfinder is capable of finding paths.
To every mechanic in town.
The new one finds paths too....to malls and grocery stores
If their owners were dimwits about maintenance.
Maintenance doesn't patch cheap design and poor reliability standards.
That 4.0 V6 is a champ, what are you on about?
Went from Pathfinder to Mallfinder
Lol that's a good one, had me laughing
Spot on.......
To tow-truck-finder.
😂😂😂
And then autoshop finder
2012 Pathfinder owner. My gal may not look pretty but she's put on 300k miles as of 2/27/2019 and still going strong!
Awesome!
What happened to it now?
The days when you were able to take your pathfinder off-roading vs the modern days where you cant clear a high pavement without damaging the bumper and cvt breaking after 4-5 years ..
proof that newer doesn't always equal better
pontiacGXPfan That's right
proof that no one asked
Theyre not made for drag racing and btw the newer one is alot better because it has a better shape and it has alot more featured
Older Pathfinder is better!!
Ludwig CarMaster I agree
Unreliable
@@tanvirina depends on the year boss. 2005 to 2008 they were junk. I have an 09 and not too many issues.
I agree even my parents have the old pathfinder!
But i have Toyota Vitz ;(
A Pathfinder versus a Pathlooker.
Nissan could kept the body on frame design just like Toyota did with the 4Runner
My grandpa left us his 2012, I haven't driven a new one but i can tell you the old one is gonna win. One time I was driving him around in it somewhere and stomped the pedal and it accelerated so hard I thought I killed him. My uncle has a new m3 and flies jets for a liviing and even he was like "what is in that thing" Those old 4.0s are nuts.
Eighty cc more likely the torque.
E C, my 08 is a 5.6 V8, 310HP and has been reliable.. i give it an Italian tune at least once a week and at 139,000 miles it still ROCKS!
I’ve only floored my Pathfinder once and man that torque is wild.
The older Pathfinder is such a better looking vehicle and had some actual off road capability 👍
@tableguy381 mine and every other off roder🙄
I prefer old nissan pathfinder.
I want to see the previous gen pathfinder go up Goldmine hill
Brandt Etheridge Good idea man!
Brandt Etheridge R51 Pathfinders are total sleepers. They do surprisingly well.
I know, my mom has one
Same here... My mom has an '02 Pathfinder! 🇯🇵👍🏼
Brandt Etheridge yes I know she does. We tested the shocks on it 😋
The drag race starts @ 4:17 ur welcome
Cameron S Not all hero's wear capes
Cameron S thanks for saving 4mins of my time
1984 - "Geez...I wish there was a more convenient and spacious option for a family vehicle other than this station wagon."
1985 - *Minivan introduced* "This is amazing! Great fuel economy! Car like ride! Fits the family and all of our gear!! It can't get any better than this"
1995 - "This minivan is seriously uncool. I wanna be 'cool mom/dad'...Oh look!! An SUV!!"
2005 - "This SUV is pretty bad on gas, and the ride is hard on my delicate lady/man parts. I wish it was better on gas and handled more like my old minivan."
2006 - The crossover is born. Thank you, soccer moms and dads. You ruined it for everyone. I hate you.
Yep add me to the list! Can't stand any crossover on the road. Ruined full size sedans, sport cars, everything. Can't even stand the look of them either.
The truth plain n simple
The new pathfinder was introduced in 2013
Double JJ those crossovers need to die
Nailed it.
My wife has a 2008 Pathfinder 4x4. In the last 9 years she's accumulated 159,500 miles, and in that time we replaced two batteries, three sets of tires, front brake pads at 126K miles, and one U-joint. Other than that, just fluid changes. This thing has been slightly more reliable than my 4 Runner, which really says a lot!
As Nathan mentioned, the downsides are a ride that is not quite as nice and gas mileage that falls short compared to more recent vehicles. Still, we get just under 19 mpg average, which though not great is almost identical to my 4 Runner.
uscfroadie that true
More reliable than a 4runner? Which gen 4runner?
Yeah
Best car ever
True best car
I got a 2005, 196000 miles as of 5/2/2024. I love her and have done some work to it including a snorkel, which I’m proud of considering it was my first time doing body work. Don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it, perfect for me, just keep fixing her up
Bring back the Xttera.
Bring it by indeed!
GuyBelmont what makes it a girl car? The Fully boxed frame? The fact it has a real 4x4 system with transfercase all sitting above the frame to protect it when you are offroad? The good ground clearance and aproach and departure angles? The fact it came with 32inch tires from the factory? The fact it can carry more on its roof than most vehicles? the 5000lb tow rating that eclipses the 3500lbs of other 4x4 rigs with 4 doors? The 0-60 in a respectable 7 seconds? I just want to know.
GuyBelmont You can't have great offroad capability and great gas mileage in the same sentence.
Sorry, you're confusing the Xterra with the Wrangler.
TheCarChannel actually the 3rd gen pathfinder had a tow rating of 7k pounds
Gotta love a classic 4.0 v6
Kyler A all 4.0 engines. Jeep, toyota, Nissan, Ford, I just love those big v6s. They will forever be missed
Toyota still has them in the 4Runner
@@vel6979 It's a shame the Tacoma doesn't have it anymore.
@@vel6979 and in the 200 series Land Cruiser, but not in the U.S.
feodufg3r4weozjmkdwopsqkf3 no they don’t.
CVTs should be banned from consumer use.
Man O War Manufacturers are starting to lean toward 10 speed instead of CVT. The 10 speed is just as fuel efficient as the CVT (usually) but is much quicker
O.L.D SL yep ordering a 2018 Ford Expedition with the new 400hp ecoBoost and the 10 speed. 0-60 is quick (almost under 6 seconds!)
It's ridiculous. I find it funny how they even add tiptronic in them
No.
I want my super'd CVT hell-machine.
I want to make people scream as the engine does.
I agree with you except for when I take my car to Chicago (about monthly for a few days). I have a Nissan Xterra with the 5 speed auto. With the traffic there and how people drive I would want a CVT if I lived there. I took my moms Murano up there once (2011 with the CVT) and it was honestly a great transmission to have there. My car with the 5 speed is constantly hunting for gears. I couldn't imagine something with more gears
I have a 97 Pathfinder. Drove for 5 years. It was my first car. Love that man
Who loves the 3rd generation😍❤
I do
Me
Bose audio
I love my R51
3rd gen is something special 😍💯
I just towed my Jeep 500 miles over the weekend with my 3rd gen Pathfinder. Let's see the minivan do that.
Please show us the 2008 Pathfinder destroying the Mallfinder up Gold Mine Hill.
Totally agree
Oh it would cvt trans suck
Nathan made a good point, truck based SUVs don't sell as well as cross-overs. There are a couple of exceptions. Unfortunately, the beloved old-school Pathfinder and it's baby brother, the Xterra are no longer with us. Trust me, Nissan isn't too concerned. The new gen Pathfinder is selling quite well.
It's called fleet sales. You'll find them littered on rental lots all across the US.
There is a new model coming up, called the Terra and it looks pretty agressive
Remember kiddies, it's all your fault.
Actually it's all the teen mom who are ruining these vehicles. Heck even soccer moms too.
Nice review.
Thank you TFL
My 2005 pathfinder 3rd gen is over 300,000 miles and still running with the same power and on the snow is a beast no matter what she will still be strong and reliable and have way more space on the inside and you feel like you driving a SUV
Just turned 116,000 mi on my 2005 Pathfinder SE. This has been the best damn truck I ever owned. Yes it did need a new timing chain and the radiator replaced but both were covered under warranty. Since then just the usual maintenance items. Runs like the day I bought it. I remember the first thing that struck me when I test drove it. I hit the accelerator and it took off with such great power and response! I take it up to my cottage in Canada and pull my boat around on beaten up gravel logging roads, mud, and challenging boat landings that barely could be called that. It has never let me down! The off road macho True SUV look was not selling because they turned so many into femmed out "X Overs" with smaller engines, rounded off and lowered roof so shrunken cargo room, and lower clearance, etc. They shifted their appeal to minivan moms, marketed the hell out of them so they didn't want the soccer mom minivan image any longer. Yeah cross over meant getting moms to cross over from minivans to these things. It worked. I'm driving my actual SUV til one of our deaths are imminent. I would even consider putting a new engine in it if necessary. Also the body and frame holding up fine, just one small spot of corrosion bubbling along the passenger rear wheel, which I plan to get it touched up.
I prefer the 2008 but Im a 4runner guy
iKmoxstar still rocking the 2003 here
@@freshuniversegaming 2004 Plt.ed. LE here luv it, most relieble vehicle ive own so fer en ive hed meny, 205k+ miles, drove to Norwich, Conn. then bek down to MBSC. in 2017 stock motor & trensmission, V35DE... FTW.
Oh the 4runner has nothing to prove everybody knows that thing is good the pathfinder not a lot of people like due to its bad reputation.
If you just mash your foot to the floor, it's shockingly slow. But if you stab the accelerator to about 30% and then smoothly put your foot to the floor, it's significantly faster off the line.
Old is gold...
alisen literally
I have an 05 love it because it's truck like. Can tow go offroad haul my dirt bike on a hitch rack. Tons of power. Newer one didn't cut it for me.
You should try that race with the second generation Pathfinder, the one with the VQ35 engine. It's a mounster
2012 Pathfinder Silver Owner
And its AWESOME
I own both models, after the purchase of the 2017 model i gave the 2008 to my daughter, therefore I never drove the 2008, until today...I was sitting so high in the seat, after backing out of the driveway, I put it in drive and the tires screeched, my neck jerked as though I had never driven a car before. I had forgotten how well this thing operates, how well it takes off.
Now I miss my old SUV, and of course my 21 yr old is in my ear about trading with me, until I told her about the car note and insurance. Wow instant silence, however, I do like the 2008 more.
Do more of these. PLEASE!
Great Show!! By the way, what type of camera do you guys use top shoot with. I love it!! Big Chuck
Basic maintenance done on my r51 and I am getting 17 to 18 average and 21 on high way with no mods done...completely stock
Really enjoy the 'old vs new' comparos.. more please.
You should do a comparison of the 3rd and 4th gen Pathfinders
I got a 1 owner 05 pathfinder with 220,800 miles on it and she’s still a brute 😤🙏🏼
WE own both these versions. 2017 and 2005 Pathfinders. Intro sums it up. Truck vs Crossover
What makes the CVT even worse is when you have Nissan and Honda to program the CVTs to simulate them like regular automatics, in order to cater to plebs who think they have a regular automatic, because they hate the CVT.
SMH.
We scooped up a 2018 Pathfinder, and love it. It's really comfortable and the 22 mpg we average isn't terrible. We don't offroad it though, so no opinion on that aspect of it
Loving my 3rd gen pathy, base model yes, better packaged vehicles than it? Yes, but i chose this one for one big reason, reliability, they are everywhere and even new frontiers and xterras are built with the same engine, the main problem with them was before 2011 when the radiator would crack sending coolant into the built in transmission cooler destroying the transmission. Which they revised in 2011 resulting in pretty bulletproof vehicles, and to add to it the frontier is a very popular fleet vehicle after the discontinuation of the ford ranger.
I'll take the gen 3 path please.
The manufactures keep making these new style mallcrawlers and I'm over here like, can i get a diesel powered 4wd SUV/Truck with manual windows/locks/seats, rubber coated floors and weatherproof seat covers with lockers front/rear/center? It can have AC and an AM/FM bluetooth radio but doesn't need all that other crap.
People complain but, in the end, wallet decides what we really need.
symmetry08 true. Your wallet can also decide what you want
Have a 2008 LE V8 Auto AWD. Just to verify that the V8 is the 5.6 in both the Armada and Titan. Have a CIA and Bully Dog tuner and produce about 330 hp, 405 tq. Same transmission, but different clutch packs. Beefed up drivetrain of course. Not sure if you're aware, but Nissan Pathfinder/Xterra had transmission issues correlating to faulty radiator connections at the transmission cooler lines. A lot of transmissions were decimated because of this defect. Earlier owners simply bypassed the cooler part of the radiator. That being said, because of colder hard shifts, I opted to replace the radiator. I agree with your review. This model design, body on frame, is very comfortable and small steering radius make it almost nimble, lol. Love stoking the 5.6 and a lot of people are shocked they came with a V8. My 0 - 60 is right under 6 seconds with the mods thus far. Last, it can tow 7000lbs conservatively and installed $100 suspension air bags. If you haven't installed them, it was the best investment for the dollar. Cut out a significant amount of body roll. You can verify more information on your model and year through my online forums.
Have the 4.0 pathfinder and loved it. Had the frontier in 4.0. Had 2 4runners also 4.0.(wife’s). And now she has the new pathfinder after having had an MDX and RDX and the new pathfinder rides the best and has the best space and features for the family.
Great video, would love to see same comparison with the new Nissan Murano!
It went from “Daddy!” to “Mommy!”
The 3rd gen is absolutely my favorite! So bulky and manly
The new one is a bitch mobile
totally right
@@chipsperry I just gave mine a 2 inch lift and put 1 inch wheel spacers and it looks hella mean now
Although the transmissions arent that great i love the 3rd gen pathfinder for the power and durability feel
I would rather buy the 3rd gen.
One of the BEST reviews ever 👌
Well, I was skeptical at first and then drove one. Actually bought an ‘18. They are nice. One thing is the transmission will stay in fuel sipping mode until you stomp on it. It will throw in your seat a bit. Now, let’s be fair.
The new pathfinder is wider, a bit longer and probably heavier. Add in all the electronics in it and it adds up.
You have a 7 passenger now going against a 5
Multi link rear suspension versus a leaf spring
Better interior materials, not the cheap ass plastic that scratched very easily.
Not a bad comparison. I’ll take the improvements and better mileage any day. Not to mention they still both tow the same.
It would be nice to see a comparison test between 2nd gen Pathfinder and current Rogue, they are about the same exterior size.
I have been driving a third pathfinder for 3 years and never knew about the compartment above the glove box
The new Pathfinder looks horrible
It's a crossover and it looks girly.
+Joshua Johnson It's an SUV. Not a crossover
Would love to have older motor with updated interior !
@@marknagy5892 the newer car is just alot heavier thats why it lost
My favorite pathfinder generation is actually the one prior to his 2008 example, although it might still be considered gen 3 if that was simply a refresh. I owned a 2002 and I LOVED that car. Same great powertrain, but much better looking. The interiors and features may have improved over 6 years, but I prefer the older styling. That car was taken from me due to an accident while my wife was driving that wasn't her fault, and it totaled the car unfortunately. I absolutely loved that car, the ride and handling was great in my opinion, it felt fast and had lots of torque and midband power, the interior was very very comfortable and pleasant to be in, utilitarian and simple/minimalistic. Loved the ride height and the big tires, I never did any real off roading (mine was RWD) but I did traverse plenty of rocky/hilly dirt roads in Arizona and it handled them all with ease. Open diff unfortunately but it had no trouble spinning a tire a little bit. Engine was very smooth. I would buy another one in a heartbeat if I found a nice one with low miles... maybe a 2004... whatever the newest year that looks like the 2002 is.
Loved
My old R51. Put 330k on it. Cosmetically everything started to fall apart, but mechanically she was king. That 4l v6 had some hairy balls hanging from it man.
lol the old one looks just like the 2017 Frontier! how great! :D
Wife had a ‘16. Very comfortable car, great on road. I hate the styling, which is to say all crossovers they all blend. Also we had many problems. Rear hatch was sticky, then the plastic chrome around the button to open it broke and cut her hand. The electric fan burnt its bearing luckily under warranty but that would have been 1500. The front end was making a noise, I tried isolating it, Nissan and a good local garage no one could find it sounded like wheel bearing but it was good. Windshield washer tank was low bend bumper froze twice. Lousy in snow I got it stuck in driveway. All it 35000 miles. It’s gone she finally finally realized it was time for the best and only truck suv and we bought another 4Runner
Great video! I myself had a 1st , 2nd and 3rd gen Pathfinder, but couldn’t wait for the Infiniti tech to trickle down to the 4th gen Pathfinder, which is why Im on my 3rd Infiniti FX. (Currently have a FX50S). 4th gen Pathfinder doesn’t come close.
My mom bought a brand new 09 and still has it to this day. Its an awesome rig. 4.0 its quite peppy for what it is.
My dad has a 05 and we use it to pull down big (living) pine trees, and it hauls like a beast
Old 1 was so much better it's sad!!! I miss the days when an SUV was an SUV...
Just like Jeep Chrysler ruined them. When AMC owned it that was a real Jeep. now days some Jeep's are just front wheel drive. Who the heck ever thought Jeep's would be front wheel drive. It's disgusting.
It’s still a suv tf u talking about lol
@@xoticproductionsreviews4925 A crossover SUV to be more specific

I've got the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder, I love it, it's pretty quick and very reliable. At 168k miles, it still feels like it's brand new, and I'm guilty of gunning it every now and then. I've replaced the AC compressor, struts (which wasn't 100% necessary, I just wanted it to ride a little bit smoother) but aside from that, it's all stock.
I remember a beaten GTI by my stock Pathfinder V6 4.0L.
Straight line...of course.
@Steve Vento 2010/11
I love my R50 Pathfinder
Javier Duran have a 97’ shits a beast

This one was one of my favs you guys did. I was surprised. A little. That the newer one did so poorly. Against the heavier one... CVT for ya. LoL.
My 2002 Nissan Pathfinder 5-speed is awesome. Love it.
I wish they would’ve included the first and second gen pathfinders as well, the 3rd gen is still good but 2nd gen was superior.
2nd gen was not body on frame
@@Laynie_247 It should still be competitive though, even though it’s a unibody it still has a solid rear axle. The 2nd gen is also the first Nissan car to introduce the 3.5 so that’s a plus.

@@GrozOutTV Ohhh I thought you had the 4.0. Yeah it seems Nissans petrol engines are more reliable than their diesel counterparts.
Nope wasn't my fault. Purposely bought the 3rd Gen over the current one. I wanted the actual 4wd and truck chassis for towing trailers. And was willing to pay for the lower mpg. Ride quality is a whole lot better then my 2nd Gen xterra. It's all about perspective.
Please do a off road comparison!
Im thinking of buying r50 pathfinder 3.5, any advice?
Can you do a old vs new with the 4Runner? I have a 2005 4Runner and would like to know about old vs new. My complaint about my 2005 is the gas mileage.
pohaku69 I'd like to see a drag race against a 4th gen 4Runner and a 5th gen 4Runner and how they're different.
I loved my r51 pathy (2006) thing hauled ass was great off road solid truck.
i have a 2006 nissan pathfinder currently with the 4.0 V6 and my parents gave it to me for my first car when i turned 16 and it is such a good car in my opinion. it's pretty fast off the line i think it's a comfortable ride and i think it's the perfect first car. i do agree with the gas mileage statement, i only do city driving so i average 14 MPG lol. the mpg is probably the only complaint i have about my car.
My parents gave me an 05 pathy 4.0 for my first car. Love it

I drive the old Nissan pathfinder 2006 , really nice , 12 years no issues at all
Are they filming in Denver?
take the old pathfinder up gold mine hill
Goldmine hill!!
Take the 3rd gen Nissan to Goldmine hill and show how a true 4x4 beat the AWD CVT crossover that are only worth for highway use and going to the mall. Nothing like a truck base SUV with a real 4x4 system.
R50 3.3 owner righter here. Ive just replaced water pump and timing belt at 350k. Still running like a champ
I rented an 08 Pathfinder for a long trip and I loved it. I rather have the truck body tbh
I love my 2011 Pathfinder SV 4 x 4 I do get up to 22 mpg on the hwy and with 130000 and still going wrong love the truck frame tough truck
My dad owns the 08 model pathfinder , and boy she is torquey , engines growls like crazy , I like the older one , looks better , new one looks like an Altima interior
I have driven a 2016 Pathfinder. It was a great vehicle on the road except for the CVT. Nice interior, lots of cool features, but that transmission made it seem buzzy at highway speeds. Maybe you get used to it, that was my first time driving a CVT. However, it did not seem all that powerful, like it took the motor awhile to figure out "oh, time to go, are you sure?" which again was because of the transmission. Very easy on gas, for the size of the vehicle I must say. Especially on the highway, something the old Pathfinder could never say!
Recently purchased a preowned 2008 V8 LE. My brother in law has a 2011 Armada. The driving dynamics are totally different. The Pathy V8 is faster, shorter turning radius, and gets better gas mpg, because it weighs about 650lbs less. It was wholesaled out to me, because of a few maintenance issues. Couldn't be happier. It's a blast to drive and other drivers back off once they see the V8 emblem and hear the exhaust note, lol. One thing I find strange is that the Tow-Haul button synchronizing the transmission during towing was not available on the V8? Such an option was on both the Armada and Titan. Can anyone answer this?
The old pathfinder is really a box😭😭I love it
my mom owns an SE 2005 Pathfinder. it even has a TV in the back, dual climate control and others. btw she had the same problem with the mileage on the 3rd gen. but she never ran out of gas
tho so its fine with her kinda.
This video is proof that Nissan these days is absolute trash compared to what it used to be.
All manufacturers are going this route, not just Nissan.
So Nate says the fit and finish of the new gen is far superior to the old. I tend to agree. Your comment makes no sense.
Matt Ruzicka My point was that the new Pathfinder got its ass handed to it by the old one in a drag race. Nissan has really gone downhill ever since they started using CVTs in everything. I refuse to buy one of their CVT laden pieces of garbage. I'd rather have a real truck like the old pathfinder. The new one is basically a minivan without sliding doors.
Victor Creed Well, yeah but not all of them are putting pathetic CVTs in their cars though. A lot of people avoid Nissan specifically because of their CVTs.
KentB27 they arnt trash. Just put the wrong transmission in. They could have used a 7 speed and have been golden.
Its the main reason why i bought a 2012 3rd gen pathy over the 2013 4th gen. That cvt. I would have got a maxima or frontier though.
This is why I bought a 2002 Pathfinder with a blown engine, bought a new engine, trans, and am building it up as my winter vehicle. The new ones just can't cut it in a Canadian winter, I'm not risking getting stuck.
OP Sihota When you replace it with a new engine does that mean you can also reset the kms since its a fresh start again? Still have my 2007 pathfinder with 193kms cylinder and gaskit is the major problem and I would just pretty much replace the whole engine.
Surprisingly though the CVT transmission tows much better From what I’ve noticed owning both of these trucks
I have a 2014 Nissan Xterra and I love it! Nissan needs to go back to making the truck frame type SUV instead of this new trash they came up with
