“Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. A spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, it is the second game in the Red Dead series. Red Dead Redemption is set during the decline of the American frontier in the year 1911 and follows John Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a hired gun. Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring three members of his former gang to justice. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a 2018 action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. The game is the third entry in the Red Dead series and is a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption. The story is set in 1899 in a fictionalized representation of the Western, Midwestern, and Southern United States and follows outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang. Arthur must deal with the decline of the Wild West whilst attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other adversaries. The story also follows fellow gang member John Marston, the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption." (Wikipedia)

@@Nathan-ui6bm Alright, let's not blow things out of proportions.
Sure the game was excellent, _great_ I'd argue.
But is it _far_ from a masterpiece.
Just the stark contrast between the freedom granted in free roam and the restrictive linear paths set for main and secondary missions is extremely jarring.
This creates a disconnect between Arthur and ____ when they're on mission acting one way, to just then go into open world maybe starts behaving completely different.

The first time the game sets you completely lose in Chapter 2, I was riding through the northern path up in Grizzlies East where you can see all the way to Saint Denis, as the sun was setting, with the red-pink hue on the rocks, and you could see a storm off in the distance. My jaw completely dropped. I rode down into The Heartlands, and the sky was so clear, you could see the galaxy reflecting back (or at least that's what my unscientific mind thought it was), I was completely awe-struck.
I've played it so much now I'm frankly, and unfortunately, so used to it I don't get that sense as often, though it still crops up more frequently than any other game for me. I'll just be riding around, hunting for something or just for the hell of it, and I'll have to stop and say "holy fuck." I think the best of the game shines through when you're not actively doing anything, just wandering.
But man, I envy those who get to have that feeling the first time, it was one of those sorts of moments where you're like "Holy shit, *this* is what games can truly be." It's a watershed moment, this game, and to be able to experience that and feel that for the first time. I wish I could experience it like that again.

I started playing with no prior knowledge of RDR, or many games for that matter, I’m simply an animation person and the fluidity caught my eye.
I didn’t figure out there was a map until much later, so I didn’t know how far it went. I just went on an adventure with my horse. We trotted along, taking time, there was no rush. I loved finding towns, but when I found Saint Denis OH. The pure excitement. I just went store to store, I watched the show and ran into a few street lights. By evening I was making my way back to camp. As I returned I watched the land slowly become recognizable, Rhodes, Emerald Ranch, then Valentine. That was the moment for me.

Orion's Arrow I remember the first time I discovered saint denis. I had just finished a bounty mission or something and decided to screw around on the train riding it south. Then I saw it and was like DAMN is that a CITY? Then I looked on the map and saw how far south I had come. This was in chapter 2 and it was then when a feeling of true excitement rushed over me of how big this map must be and how much else there is to explore. I couldn’t wait. Pretty sure I stayed up til 5 am playing that night

I have a big problem where I can never stop thinking and stressing about things. I can never truly let my mind lose. Well, I just got this wonderful game and upon being allowed to finally free roam for the first time when you set up camp outside of valentine, I was completely immersed and just stopped thinking and just enjoyed the world. I explored and just casually walked and talked to everyone in the camp and the same over in Valentine. So far this game is just amazing and Rockstar rarely disappoints. In the past several years, I've never been "let lose" so to speak, when playing a game. Just absent minded and immersed. I've only had the same feeling, recently at least, with Far Cry 5. Something about the nature of the West and the personality it has is just so relaxing and calming. Im really enjoying this game so far and I can't wait to keep playing it!

I play old time banjo. Both "clawhammer" (overhand) style and two-finger styles. The music in this game was just amazing. My banjo nerd gripe are the banjos shown in the game are 4 string "tenor" resonator banjos which were not around at this time period.
All the banjos would have been 5 string, "open back" style banjos of various designs or old time "mountain" style banjos. All the banjo music, from what I can tell, were played old time styles and with traditional, 5 string open backs.
This particular banjo riff sounds two-finger up picking style. It reminds me a lot of the song "Red Rocking Chair" when played slow. Sarah Wood, another folk banjo player, does a beautiful two-finger rendition on her "25 Tunes for Old Time Banjo & Singing" album. Check out "Red Rocking Chair (slow banjo)" which is also on CZcams.
I always felt this would also have been a great exploration background song in the Annesburg area outside of the spooky moments and areas or some other place in the game.
It would have been cool as well to have multiple, modern folk banjo players contribute. Rhiannon Giddens was awesome but others as well such as Sarah Wood, Clifton Hicks, Riley Baugus, etc. Then add them in the game as little "Easter egg" cameos as random NPC's or part of various story lines.

One thing that continues to amaze me in this game is the vast array of wildlife. From giant grizzly bears to tiny songbirds in bushes, I still haven't discovered them all, and I've had the game since its release. It's gonna be hard for Rockstar to top this one. Absolute perfection.

The chirping, the rattling of the crickets...the rushing of the water fade into one harmonious cadence...a beauty so calming you almost forget about the harsh, unforgiving land of the west.' . . . my feelings playing this game sometimes. I like the write sometimes. Peace to you all.

Well, partner, gather 'round and lend me your ears,
For a tale so campy, it might bring you to tears.
Out in the Wild West, where the sun blazes bright,
I found myself in a situation that just ain't right.
Riding high on my trusty horse, with a saddle so fine,
I thought, "Why stop at just that? Let's make it all mine!"
So, with a glimmer in my eye and a grin so wide,
I set out to create a fashion statement with cowboy pride.
I fetched my welding gear, sparks flying in the air,
Determined to make a pair of chaps beyond compare.
With each flicker of the torch and every sizzle and snap,
I fused that saddle to my chaps.
Now, you may ask, "Partner, why on earth would you do such a thing?"
Well, I'll tell ya, my friend, it's all about that western bling.
I strutted 'round town, saddle-chaps jingling with each stride,
People gawking and gasping, couldn't believe what they spied.
From the saloon to the rodeo, I became the talk of the land,
With my welded saddle-chaps, I made a bold stand.
Sure, they may not be practical, and riding's a bit bizarre,
But who needs practicality when you're a cowboy superstar?
So, remember this tale of my wild welding quest,
A campy concoction, I must confess.
Sometimes, in the Wild West, you gotta take a chance,
And create something unique, even if it's pure cowboy romance.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll ride off into the sunset,
With my welded saddle-chaps, a fashion statement you won't forget.
For in this land of cowboys and outlaws so free,
Wild welding adventures are the stuff of legend, you see!
