Call of Duty Had Something Special Until They Cancelled It... (DMZ in 2024)

- I went back to Modern Warfare 2 recently and played a lot actually... Well, not in the way you're probably thinking of. Here's the thing, I went back solely for DMZ - don't even have the other stuff installed because contrary to my thoughts on MP and Warzone during MW2's year of support DMZ was actually well done and had so much potential for success, then was just dropped. Today, I wanted to take some time to run down with you what I've found DMZ to be like in 2024 playing a ton, so drop your thoughts below, do me a huge favor and drop a like to support the video and make sure to subscribe for more retrospective content and other FPS videos, I'd love to have you.

DMZ was fun and as a solo player it wasn't a problem until it devolved into just people hunting others. But it was the best thing COD did for a while until they decided to drop it. They needed a karma system.
Totally agree. Some players ruined DMZ by camping near exfil locations and getting cheap kills.
The first couple of DMZ seasons was THE BEST online gaming i had in 10 years
The "Friendly, FRIENDLY" era of DMZ was fun. Then came the exfil camping, then the spawn killing, then the assimilation, then the pre-made 6man squads. They even tried to make the computer hunt you when you killed too many players, but that didn't do much. But the game had so much potential, I loved it when the biggest fear was the tier 3 bots that just got buffed for the 3rd time. Good times, but COD suicided DMZ when they could've done so much more with it.
I quit playing DMZ due to the exfil camping. I play solo, and I didn’t have a chance against 6 man squads.
only 4 man squads now.. its still fun as hell .. come back and play
mannn you missed out. Was satisfying as hell to take out full 6 mans solo. Just 4 mans now.
Man you are outdated... 6 mans squad was removed in September 2023.
Agree same here
I played against a 4 man squad solo and it’s a lot easier now the. Before. Trust me. I had adrenaline moments in that game that I’ll never have in warzone.
DMZ is/was an amazing game mode! Wish that we could have got DMZ in Rebirth, Fortune’s Keep, and Urzicstan. The new warlords in MWZ could have served as the bosses for the new DMZ modes. If infinity ward chooses to attempt to revive DMZ in the years to come it would be amazing. The state that it is in right now, it’s too much pvp, you can’t even do missions anymore.
DMZ is still fun. COD messed up not continuing this mode. Zombies was a bust and WZ has become boring.
DMZ was done dirty by cod. It was my main mode during MW2. The social aspect was so much fun.
DMZ was the only mode I played in MW2
it also felt like a spit in the face to the dmz players when MWZ launched and is almost 100% of what DMZ was at its launch. Its a such a great gamemode that got scapegoated for MW2's issue (warranted). Almost feels like the game was built around DMZ at some point in development
It was built around dmz thats why the movement in mw2 is slower
MWZ is not even 30% of DMZ...
@@BearShepherd I love zombies, round based and outbreak style. but MWZ just doesn't have the same replay value as round based or outbreak and I am also super bummed DMZ got canned for MWZ. I LOVE DMZ and still play it a ton. I haven't played MWZ in months and probably won't go back to it unless they really lean into major changes/improvments. But at the same time I think MWZ actually has/had a lot of potential too, but they have epic failed on support for that and massively missed an opportunity.
@@BearShepherdi know this is lie
MWZ feels like DMZ lite. Without PvP, there really is no challenge or fear of losing anything except if the game crashes. So many of MWZ assets are just reused from DMZ.
Bro. When DMZ was out everyone shit on it and now that it’s gone. Everyone is wants to give it its flowers. Shit makes me sad because I loved dmz so much
I played dmz only the in the whole lifespan of mw22 was a blast doing all the missions with my friends :(
Classic cod loop
I loved DMZ, but the PvP aspect grew too fast and the devs didn't do enough to counter it so a huge chunk of the casual player base tailed off. The 1st 2 seasons were awesome, but then ppl started teaming up to squad hunt and started spawn killing and stuff and that kinda ruined it. Nothing wrong with the PvP aspect of the game but it was grossly unbalanced to where you spend too much time eluding other players and not enough time trying to do the missions, especially when you got to the later missions that were actually pretty tough.
DMZ is a sweaty mess, especially as a solo player. Haven't had many games on there but man nearly every single game was a bad experience. I'd rather fight AI than come across any hostile player.
skill gap issue for sure :P
how do you play warzone solo? DMZ is like other extraction shooter when you play solo, you could be silent and do missions in smart we.
You had good luck against the AI then I died to AI cross mapping me more than players lol.
I still play DMZ and it's just a fun as it ever was. It's sweater now than before, but if you're prepared for that you'll be better off. This isn't a dig at WZ, as I like WZ too, but the fights feel much more intense in DMZ. They're at least different enough so that it doesn't feel like I'm just playing BR.
DMZ is less of an extraction game and more of a hybrid CO-OP / PvP experience. The Extraction elements ended up meaning very little in the grand scheme of things without an economy, but the stratifying gunplay with AI, and missions that had you running into other teams also completely their quests had many fun moments.
They should have incorporated the multiplayer raids that they made for MWII into maps for DMZ, would have helped it so much and would have actually gotten people to play the raids instead of them being cut after season 4 of MWII I think
It would have been so cool to do the Raids within DMZ. I can imagine how much fun it would have been to go into the raid with a six man team to figure out the puzzles and defeat the bosses.
At first I didn't have any interest in DMZ but when it launched it was the only way to obtain the M13B so I tried my hand at playing it. They had me hooked in because the fear of getting your 3 plate, backpack, and insured weapon wiped the game actually felt like it had some stakes compared to Warzone. I pretty much barely touched Warzone while DMZ was getting regular updates. Only played Warzone if their was some sort of event or easter egg to unlock items. I found the harder missions really challenging and often times a grind. The AI could be cheap and overwhelm you. The ability to be friendly and make a 6 man team made it even more fun and I really started to feel like I was a part of a gaming community. Made some really good friends in DMZ that I still play with today in Warzone and MW Zombies. I do hope they make a DMZ sequel in the future. DMZ felt like an extraction shooter that is accessible to more casual players.
The nesses up when they made bots really easy to fight some of the most intense engagements were because npcs were dangerous 😊
Look at it this way:
- Warzone is the second overarching gamemode (brother to Multiplayer)
- Within Warzone you have Battle Royale, Resurgence, Plunder and Lockdown but should also have DMZ as a different type of mode of Warzone
- With everything combined you LITERALLY have a gamemode for every type of player ranging from casuals to sweats
These devs are just incompetent tbh- and now we'll probably never have this great mode return.
almost 1600 hours solely on DMZ. i loved it, got everthing and unlocked everything, but i ain´t coming back to it.
DMZ was like the call of duty wild west, guaranteed you'd always run into some crazy shit during a play session
it had such potential and they just faltered it 😭
DMZ should have never allowed you to have teams of more than three. That was flawed from the start. The fact that trios could team up together via voice chat would have been a problem in and of itself, but to allow them to actually squad up is just clown shoes.
I mean they technically got that patch now but it should have just been his own game mode.
DMZ was dope, i stopped playing when they ended the 6 man squads and made various changes to plea system . Until then it was awesome.
Dmz could actually be a solid way to do a campaign in future cods.
I think they tried that with the MW3 Campaign, not great.
Its wild to me that extraction shooters seems to be exploding, what 4-6 either lauched this year or launching soon? And COD over here like DMZ: meh... And they had a fairly uniue one too compared to Tarkov/Gray Zone style. Much more accessable/casual. Did it have its problems that needed to be worked out? Absolutely, but they had huge potential there and just ignoring it in what seems to be an exploding FPS sub-genre.
I remember watching espressos videos of blackout. Every update he would make videos and it seems he would have fun playing Blackout.
For DMZ, they should’ve kept the same movement MWII had for the realism while also keeping the mode maintained by adding MWIII guns in the mix.
I loved DMZ. I wish it continued support through this current game. Unfortunately mwz doesn’t feel the same enough for me to play that.
MWZ is too easy. The AI in DMZ could overwhelm you if you didn't play smart and the constant threat of other player teams made it exciting.
DMZ is the only mode that forced me to practice a couple of games in Warzone for some PvP practice. Great mode! Hope COD will make a DMZ 2.0 or something like it
Loved DMZ, honestly think going from the 6-man squads to only 4 runined it. Yeah it sucked getting killed by a full squad, but it felt awesome wiping one out. Also, as someone who ran mostly solo or duo it really sucked because if both you and your teammate got killed usually only one of you was getting picked up. So for me that was the worst move they made besides abandoning it. Really hope we get another DMZ at some point, I put more time into that than pretty much any other game since 2012.
The best thing about DMZ is it has them battlefield moments, and its a lot of fun to play, I prefer it over warzone or other extrac shoters and great with friends!
I loved it when 6 man teams would fight and then some other third team would show up and it would be all out war. My favorite memory was grinding for the Serpentine camo. Some of the most fun and stressful games I have ever played.
I love dmz and still play it regularly. Tons of lore and tons of fun.
I liked it but, so many game crashing bugs kept resetting me back to the start. Too frustrating to put up with when I had built up a good stash. Dropped it and never went back.
DMZ you will be missed. I had a blast Activision infinity war whoever’s running this game now please bring this version back
DMZ was incredible so it sucks to see it effectively scrapped.
2:19 I hoped in with my boy for the first time 2 days ago and this exactly was happening to us. Straight 4 game and we have no weapons saved. We eventually gave up.
thats happend to every one bro. just keep playing from time to time and you will get sometimes good loppy.
Solo DMZ is probably one of the worst experiences you could have on cod
I would've love for mw3 as the anniversary game it was supposed to be, to have all the companies on hand, infinity ward on dmz, sledgehammer on multi-player and weaponry, treyarch on zombies and raven on warzone, with a mixed made campaign, but infinityward just left immediately, treyarch dropped the ball on zombies, and personally, I don't like the fact that we were basically clickbaited by the promise of "fan-favorite classic weapons" We've had like four, and they are only now, halfway through the game's life cycle with everyone already talking about the next game, before we got anything of the sort (as much as I don't like the advanced warfare weaponry being in game but that's just me) I'm still playing but godamn did the companies drop the ball on how great this game could've been and I really wanted this to be a similar experience as 2019, where I can go back to it when the next cods bore the ever loving sh!t out of me (looking at you vanguard), now my main focus is on Metrodvanias with the sequel to one of my favorite games coming out soon, and on the slime farmer simulator games, and honestly for a game series I grow up on, that makes me sad to see both the games themselves and the community in this state where it feels like everyone is in the mindset of "Oh if I play good enough, I'll become an esports player or my favorite steamer" instead of having good old fashioned fun, and now I'm gonna get comments saying "skill issue" and that's the issue I have with the game now, it all comes down to "skill" which is another word for using the next meta weapon.
Bring back DMZ!!!
Why is this the first video by you Ive seen on dmz then lmao
Literally the thing I played most until I realised they stopped caring about it.. such a shame
Loved it, needs to be a yearly release worked on by only IW, their philosophy works for this mode…don’t let them touch MP or Warzone ever again
I personally think they regret canceling it. I think they thought the Extraction shooter genre was dying but they were wrong. I guarantee IW makes DMZ 2.0 in 2026 and I can’t wait.
I think they drop it because of MWZ and the feature of unlocking weapons you extract with, I wish they bring it back next year or anytime in the near future.
Playing GrayZoneWarfare to get that DMZ feel.
They should do a separate pay for extraction shooter.
Nice thumbnail🔥👌🏾
To post this video upon the anniversary of the C&d of SM2...
I forgive you, Espresso.
DMZ is special in my opinion. now is more fun you always have special moments with other people, becaus communication is essential.
I just wish they made insured weapons less op, maybe insure the weapon but not the attachments, end game got pretty stale since people were only using meta builds and had pretty much an endless supply from the mission upgrades or just getting them off another player
DMZ is amazing .. i been still paying since the beginning almost every day
I still play 3-4x/week. every fight is different. nothing hits like DMZ for me. It not as fun as it was when it was really firing mid game cycle now that its straight sweat PVP, but its still a ton of fun IMO and just a different BR experience that warzone, which I really don't like that much, but do play with my bois from time to time.
I play DMZ till this day.
Too bad they stopped supporting it
I preferred DMZ to MP, shame some players ruined it for solo players.
I would have loved it if it had a PvE only mode
You know they did the same with cool gamemodes in mw2019, they have a cool and promising mode and then they completely drop support because its not core 6v6 and its so fucking stupid. If they actually put effort in it before MWZ was forced into “mw3” it could’ve been good
What’s up with all the sex bots commenting? Haven’t seen this many in a while.
XDefiant less than half the ping of COD, not looking back again.
I just wish it had MWIII movement.
it was fun enough, but there being no option for strictly PVE ultimately killed it for me. Only tried out MWZ during the free trial and while it wasn't really my cup of tea, it *not* having PVP was already a SIGNIFICANT improvement for me.
Gray Zone Warefare has PVE mode. i like that game alot, but it is still in early access and has alot of issue now.
Maybe if they removed other player matchmaking, but hey our servers are shite we can't do that
Sadly, unless they disincentivize people focusing on pvp exclusively, DMZ is going to continue to see a decline
They fucked up. Cod could've done the extraction looter shoot genre so well but they took NO cues from the juggernauts. There was no reason to play... easily fixed.. but they didn't
No one played it or they would have kept it. I only played it to afk the battle pass lol
DMZ & Warzone should've been more separate. DMZ should've at least had a mode similar to Joint Ops in Grey Zone Warfare. All the douchey competitive people who couldn't cut it in Warzone against skilled competitive players, swamped DMZ to hunt peaceful players that wanted to relax and do fun missions.
It's like going out onto a quiet lake in a rowboat to relax & do catch & release fishing and then a bunch of obnoxious younger guys come roaring out on a boat with a motor on the back, blaring music and throwing firecrackers into the water because they think it's funny.
As soon as the Haunting Event was over last year before MW3 Beta, we all knew it was over. People need to let it go. All we’re interested in is COD getting an amazing Multiplayer back.
The hauting so wo good tho. I was highly impressed with that.
dmz used to be so much better, now everybody is using rgl and 1shot bugged brysons
the bryson is such an annoying no skill cheez weapon. hate it so much.
I'll stick to Tarkov for that itch. ✌
DMZ was great until they introduced P2W elements, than i uninstalled the game, because i am too poor for MP and battle royal is boring/too big/slow paste, if its not loaded resurgance or lockdown .... it is such a shame since up to season 2 it was genuinely great
I’m noticing the pattern of people not appreciating most game modes or abilities the minority of players do till it’s gone: MW19 Ground War, Cold War Scorestreaks, DMZ, etc
mw19 ground war was so good lol
Cold War scorestreaks were the worst killstreak system in COD history. Terrible take.
@@nathanielamato5029cw streaks single handedly ruined the game for me idk what he’s talking about.
DMZ was average but then became garbage when players started creating squads larger than 6 through an exploit.
superfun just needed traders and shit to buy it was boring after 20minutes!
It's still fuck IW
I don’t get the hype with DMZ, there was no reason to grind it & it should’ve been PVE because running into other players was obnoxious af
its the best game mode for COD in 10 years
@@JasonCohen99 K
Lmao DMZ was a joke. The friendliest shit ever. It was no real reward and not even close to a proper extraction shooter
Nothing was special bout DMZ and/or Extraction Shooters in general. Acti was tryna catch lightning in the bottle like with Zombies and Warzone. DMZ doesn't work for this community. Cancelling it kinda eases up room for Devs to make a competent enough CoD
Was DMZ really the root cause of MWII many fails? I kind of doubt it.
MWZ was its replacement which i perfer
MWZ is dogwater
What? DmZ was trash! It's the reason why the BR and MP suffered.
DMZ sucked.
MW2 sucked.
No way I'd go back to it.
dmz is not good rn
Another extraction shooter. Pass. Only Hunt Showdown as done something interesting
To me, the only issue with DMZ is that it's PvP, if it wasn't PvP, I assure you people would've actually given it a chance, maybe keep Building as a PvP map, but make everything else otherwise PvE, heck, MWZ is basically DMZ but PvE, and just because of that it's 100% more fun.
DMZ was awful
There wasn't a damn thing that was SPECIAL about DMZ (or ANYTHING in MWII) !!!
Reaching for views lol
Do not try to gaslight me into thinking DMZ was some underrated mode.
This shit was plagued with 6 man pre-teams for 90% of its lifespan, filled with Warzone rejects who can't play normal BR so just hunt DMZ players fun instead
play it now and you will see if you can kill every one.
why you think people who play DMZ can't play warzone!!!
it is not a war between DMZ and Warzone, man can play both and enjoy both.
COD is nothing special lol. Stop simping for it 😂😂😂😂
No they didn’t have nothing special. They barley added anything how is that special 👎🏼
I love barley
Negative nancy
It's the best mp pvp mode they've ever made, you probably just died a lot and don't like it because it's not tdm.
FR DMZ was literally just br with extra steps
DMZ was the Best thing COD Has Ever Done 😂
Your video is special. Lol cod is garbage and dmz was ass.
