  • Here's the supplies I needed to convert my Portable Dishwasher to a permanent installation.
    Dishwasher Water Supply Line
Dishwasher Drain Hose (make sure hose matches Wye's spout size)
1.5" ABS Pipe (match your existing plumbing size for ABS parts)
    1.5" Dishwasher Wye
    1.5" ABS Coupling Hub
    ABS Cement
    Teflon Tape
SharkBite 1/2 inch Straight Coupling (match your existing water line size)
SharkBite Dual Outlet Stop 1/2 X 3/8 X3/8 inch (match your existing water line size)
    Tools Needed:
    Torx Screwdriver
    Phillips Screwdriver
    Wrench
Pipe Cutter (if you need to cut copper pipe)
    Hack Saw
This is a simple project if you have super basic plumbing skills like being able to cut a pipe and glue ABS. I should have done this mod to our portable dishwasher long ago! We are loving having our kitchen sink available even while doing dishes!
I hope you found this guide helpful!

Thank you for the video. Super helpful! One question… I installed a shutoff because I wasn’t sure if the dishwasher could handle constant water pressure, but I would love to not have to shut it on and off every time I use it. Any experience with leaving it under constant pressure?
Edit: nevermind. I just saw that you already responded to that question and that it can handle constant pressure. Thank you again for the video!

Thanks! Yes, just leave the tap open and forget about it. It's a normal dishwasher now, I have never heard of anyone installing a shutoff on a normal dishwasher and turning it off when not in use. Worrying about this is overthinking it. Enjoy!

Do you think the machines water line plumbing is made to take constant line pressure? Maybe should put a on/off valve somewhere?

      It can take constant pressure

The pressure is fine but you are right an valve in place would be handy. I also would have used a T with a stop valve to the hot water supply. Never can be too safe.

Hi Korey. Thank you for posting this video. I bought a new GE Portable Dishwasher Model# GPT225SGLBB last month. A plumber came out on 6/17/2024 to connect it to the permanent water line but because the instructions were not spelled out in the manual, he said it couldn't be done. The way you describe in your video here, will this work for any dishwasher?

I don't know how that dishwasher looks underneath... but I would def think so. If you take a look underneath and see 2 hose connections (supply and drain) that's what he needs to connect to. I would think even a half decent plumber should be able to figure it out easily, this is basic stuff!

Were you able to figure this out?! I have the same model as you

I would be very surprised if it were much different.. dishwashers are pretty simple when it comes to the plumbing... they have water coming in and water going out

I feel so dumb because I didn't quite get the part of how you changed it up once you opened the actual dishwasher. I already have all the hoses/plumbing set up but couldn't quite figure out what to do on dishwasher. In any case, is that specific model a new one, the Whirlpool? Or an older, different model? Just checking what you're working with.

Pretty sure this is an old model, it def looks old! I just took off the covers of the dishwasher to allow me to remove the drain/supply hose since it ran up the back of the unit.
I didn't change anything with the dishwasher besides the supply and drain hose, so if you already swapped these out you should be good to go! In hindsight I am thinking removing the outer cover could probably be avoided entirely. Just tip the unit over, disconnect the supply and drain connections, and pull them out of the machine. Worst case if they don't fit out that black plastic pc on the back of the unit you could cut these 2 hoses then do that.
Hopefully this clears things up for you!
