Lol, my college was in a very quiet NorCal community yet they had a Campus Safety & Security office (& building) 45 years ago!!
Why is UCLA so far behind?
Yeah what the heck, my University has a safety office. We've had one for over 60 years
two in my area have their own police departments
@@jackchop1576 ours waswas essentially. Back in the mid-80s there were at least 2 on at a time. Quite nice about walking us down the hill to student parking if we were uneasy after night classes.

If they actually call for the national guards to assist with the police officers. Remember what ever to 4 students who was actually killed by national guards and wounding 9 others in 13 seconds of 67 bullets were fired in Kent State, Ohio. It became known as Kent State Ohio massacre on May 4th, 1970. At least 50 schools were actually closed for some time. Then on May 14th, 1970 the police killed 2 black college students who protest against the US soldiers who were moving into Cambodia during the Vietnam war. A musical group name Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young sang Ohio about the killing of 4 students in Ohio State University. Hope it's not gonna happen again.
And no one got arrested for the assault on the anti- war encampment .
What good will this do
It's a scapegoat to protect the Dean or other leaders. Next time they'll have this made up position to hide behind. So they don't have to be the one who calls in police or says no. Basically a parent hiring a psychologist to do the disciplining for them

This new office needs to support Jewish students. Then maybe UCLA will be in compliance with Title XI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and be able to keep their federal funds.

Campus Safety office? Sorry, but that's not enough given the embarrassment that UCLA allowed to happen last week. People need to be held accountable and be fired. Students who were involved need to be expelled.
