- It took two months but Activision has finally dropped their Matchmaking blog and revealed little to nothing about what they plan on doing with SBMM. This is pretty much what I expected from an introductory blog about the matchmaking system.

The SBMM/Matchmaking blog has officially dropped after 2 silent months. It doesn't give us much information outside of things we (mostly) knew about the matchmaking. Activision also answered some questions and tried to stop some theories surrounding matchmaking.

I wouldn’t say they said it was “all bullshit”. They only responded to the part about OG MW being said to have had SBMM in it.
I love how they specify multiple times that this mm system is made for team to be balanced and matches to be as close as possible when in reality, all my team mates are all going 5-40 with 5second on point when I'm 60-30 .
And all the ennemies are farming streaks on them and none of them get less than 40 frags

My issue with Cod and SBMM was summed up with them saying they want every player to have a balanced mix of outcomes…. So basically them confirming they manipulate your experience and if your a better player you don’t get to win more games etc

I know for certain that myself and my small group of friends land in the top 10%. And 4/5 of us have completely quit call of duty. We miss it. We're struggling to find another game to take its place and get the gang together to play. Sad to see. But I doubt i'll ever go back.
I'm considering going back to Halo if XDefiant winds up disappointing. MWIII is fun in short spurts, but the SBMM is just a cancer to the franchise as a whole. I'm still holding back hope that Microsoft is able to read the room better and effect some positive change, otherwise the franchise is gonna continue dying a slow death.
Someone did a test a while back to see how slow the matchmaking is. The results are, when matchmaking in the new mw games, you get into a lobby in waw, cod4, bo1, mw2, bo2, mw3, and ghost, before being put into lobby in the new mw games.

Everything that cod has become and has decided to do has made me even more excited for xdefiant to launch. No sbmm, no new game every year, devs that actually care about their players. We need a big fps game to actually challenge cod for anything to change.
The beta to me had insanely strict sbmm. I was considering not buying it. I followed through and feel like it’s significantly softer than the beta. Still the odd sweaty game but I can still dominate for 90% of a play session
The beta was a worse experience for me there was absolutely no chill.

@@Oznerol1234 I’m constantly going up against iridescent players in my lobbied. Even some top 250 players. And I’ve never played ranked until recently and I haven’t even won a game yet so idk how I can be put in lobbies with the top ranked players

No I don't, I remember everyone bitching the exact opposite and not understanding that the sweaty people are much more likely to pre order for a beta and even still be more likely to put the most hours in during this limited time.
I stopped playing cause of these sweaty ass lobbies it gets old. Pubs used to be Stomping,Close, or Stomped. Now it’s always close and it’s annoying
When I started playing first person shooters back in the days I got sh*t on. But I didnt gave up and continued playing and learned the game. Basically 'git gud'.
People now today can't take any defeat and need to be babysitted so they don't lose interest. Really sad imo.
To be fair, if someone starts playing today, they would not even know if they improve or not, because their performance would be roughly the same thanks to SBMM.

Back in the day matchmaking was so much better. Basically you’d play and every lobby was different you’d have some lobbies where you were the best player and others where you were the worst. If you weren’t absolutely shit at the game you’d do well until a better player joined and then you could leave the lobby, join a new one and have a totally new set of players and if you could keep up with them then you stay in the lobby and if you can’t try again. This is why a lot of CZcamsr, like Faze Jev for example, if he’s not doing well still out of habit he leaves the game and starts a new lobby, it still works to an extent but not nearly as well as before
Back in the day, skill was much lower overall. Look at sports, don't tell me if you were able to time travel it would be an equal playing field between top players then and now, not to say they all would be much worse, but overall I doubt a team would stand much of a chance.
@@aelinstue9431 agreed, you also have a generation/generations of players now that lived through Covid forcing a bunch of people to become gamers and good ones. So fair point, I honest don’t know what the answer would be to fix this. I’d love to see them turn off SBMM and see the results over a certain period, if it was going to be that bad then they can just turn it back on after a day.

@@Voidableflame how could it not be a lie? They literally use timers to see how long you get double XP for, even outside of matches. Of course they're accounting for how long you play. Plus they're contradicting themselves if they say they aren't but in the next paragraph talk about player retention. Which is it?
It is unfortunate. I last bought BO4, gave up since MW19. I remember how game1 in MW19 beta I went 25-8 and then I somehow struggled to hold a 1.4 after that (I'm historically a 2.5-2.8 KD player and was 2.6 on BO4). At that point, I thought it was the shitty doors and the camping scrublet maps. But then it happened in Cold War again. And then in Vanguard. It was so hard to skip over the games, even during sales, but what I realized is that I have nothing to gain from participating in SBMM/EOMM games as somebody who no longer has that many hours to put into this type of entertainment.

I'm glad I've fully switched to Battlefield. Cod is beyond saving at this point. 2042 isn't a good game fundamentally, but is a casual experience due to no SBMM so it can be fun.

@@eliasazevedo777 I'm looking for a arcade type shooter like Cod. Enlisted is not my cup of tea, the movement and gunplay felt heavy and slow. Waraface is okay but the gunplay is clunky compared to Cod. XDefiant is the closest to Cods feel, Battlefield 2042 is the most satisfying gunplay I've felt from that franchise tbh but the large maps with 64-128 players ain't what I look for in a shooter. Cod feels the best in all metrics that shooter has to offer nothing really compares but the matchmaking system is so rigged and predatory that I can no longer buy the game.

I haven’t played multiplayer for about a month and a half now because the matchmaking constantly puts me against people who are way above my skill bracket. All they do is camp and head glitch with lmgs and meta weapons while I’m just trying to unlock camos.
I haven’t even noticed anything. Is there news? I haven’t left HC Shipment 24/7 lobby in three days now. I don’t even know where my girlfriend went….

If they’re actually worried about player retention when it comes to SBMM, I have an idea. What if they remove SBMM from the game after the new years game comes out?
Old players could get what they finally wanted and start enjoying the matchmaking more. And if some players don’t like what happens to the matchmaking, it will be incentive for them to purchase the new game and play there where it has the SBMM they’re used to.
I’d love to see something like this happen. Especially if it helps show that players really want SBMM to be removed.

To be fair, they might stating some truth on keeping lobbies filled with matchmaking. The part when they’re saying that they don’t use damage-match-making, bots, or favorable bundles to manipulate a player’s experience is what they could be laying.

Only time I leave a match is if I'm on a camo grind that requires x amount of kills in a magazine or life. If I'm not getting them because revenge spawns or constantly fighting multiple people at once while teammates stand by and watch, then I'm out. Not wasting my time if I'm not getting anything.

Well… I got interstellar already so I’m pretty much done playing mw3… the one thing that kept me playing is already done… things will continue to go downhill for people like me that have been playing cod for years and genuinely don’t care one bit for warzone.

I’ve been playing since 2007 just like you and I unfortunately think I’m ready to give up on the game. I still love Black Ops games so I’m going to remain open minded for Gulf War but that might be my last game ever. I haven’t bought a cod since Cold War and I bought every game up until then. I wish they cared about their legacy players.

I stopped playing seriously around Cold War, played probably 70/30 zombies that year, I bought Vanguard and MW2 and even got my friends to buy MW2 on all the rumours of MW2 having another year of support and we barely touched it,
So I've gone onto playing single player games instead all the games I shelved to play MP for years and it's been a great decision finally, with the odd game of zero build fortnite or the finals (was splitgate till devs announced they were basically dropping support and rogue company) with friends till xDefiant comes out

Im pretty sure Im not a top 10% of players, I'd love to see what they think the most skilled players look like, like what is their Win/Loss rate considered to be? What is their Kill/Deat Ratio considered to be? I'd love to see, even if I was apart of that group at least I'd know lol. These companies are also not bound by law to not lie to us about this so I'm inclined not to believe them. Those patents too, why go through the trouble to patent things if they arent being used, I remember it well that the first of these patents were found in 2015 during BO3, and here we are almost 9 years later and again I dont believe them

Why have public Lobby SBMM when you have Ranked Play
The answer seems pretty straightforward to me: the vast majority of people aren't interested in ranked. Recognizing that, if the algorithm does actually improve "retainment", then of course they're going to deploy it in the playlist with the most people, it's simple math.
BO4 was the last great multiplayer game, unfortunately microtransactions and putting guns behind a pay wall ruined that game for me. But as far as a great feeling MP that also fluctuated WILDY lobby to lobby, this was the last great one.
I wouldn't have to camp on the map if they wouldn't have these challenges to get so many kills without dying or if they wouldn't have a stupid challenge like getting penetration kills with a sniper rifle looking at you katt AMR

With MW3 I’ve seen a considerable amount more of people leaving games early because of “blow outs”. I am a mediocre player at best. However I continuously and consistently get into the “sweatiest” of lobbies. If my matchmaking was working how they claimed I’d not have such an overwhelming lose to my win ratio. What they are claiming they’re trying to get everyone as close to even for KD and win/loss as possible and it’s not working. The community is unhappy with it currently so change it. They removed the covert exfil because of feedback, work with us and we will be loyal to your game. 🤷🏻♂️

Uh I’d say the 10% and 90% is a very skewed number. I’m above average at the game but in no way am I in the top 10% and back when I still played, I suffered daily due to SBMM. It negatively affects the majority of the player base whether they want to admit that or not

This is controversial but personally I've never had an issue with SBMM, I'm casual and haven't played 100s of hours into it since like Infinite Warfare so maybe I'm just not noticing but for the most part my matches are evenly matched, I mean I do see sweaty players but don't feel like it's all the time and my Wins are still higher than my Losses I also never back out of games I'm not competitive so if I'm getting dominated I don't rage quit I'll just try my best and if I lose then it's whatever there's always next game

Last CoD I bought was Cold War because with SBMM every single game was a stressful sweat fest. If I wanted nothing but league play I’d join that. Wont buy or play CoD again.

Things arent up, players numbers on steam and battlenet (the actually largest playerbase by statistics) are dropping rapidly. Them claiming things are fine and on the up and up is cope and such a lie to the community and its shameful. They dont care about declining player retention when the people still playing keep buying bundles and making them money and thats the bottom line for the execs is the cash flow from micro transactions.

Cod needs competition and needs to bet left to die, when your so focused on not listening to the community based on bias numbers, your just a lost cause. Cs2 has no sbmm and focusses on letting players getting better and on pc alone a 1m player a each day. That's real data!

This feels like half truths and telling us confirmed information we already know but some of this is just factually incorrect. They stated themselves that ping is king when in fact xclusive ace has had to play on a VPN since mw3 launched just to get a fair connection. That alone says everything it needs to say about this post
