This series is taught at the perfect pace for a beginner. Also, it wasn't taught like it was a high speed refresher course where frustration is the only thing taught. One thing that might bring it all home would be to see the individual rhythms used in an actual performance to offer genuine relevance.

Geoff, thank you so much man, your beginner series is a gift from Heaven. I really hope you continue to make darbuka videos, but I wish you luck in whatever you choose.

I began with percussion in my school band, but I have only recently found darbuka drumming, and this channel is fantastic for learning all the basics and great sounding rhythms!

Thank you for your fantastic job. I have been able to follow along with you, which I have not be able to with others. It's a little bit funny that I am practicing the rhythms following you explanations without even having a Darbuka yet. (It's actually in its way to me, but I cannot wait to to start learning). All these rhythms I managed to practice on the back and on the side of an baritone ukulele...;)
I also want to thank you for your insights about the printed Remo fish skin. I just purchased one of those. I will probably change the skin on my upcoming Sombaty Darbuka with this skin, so I feel even more motivated with a better sound from the beginning.
I am also into Bulgarian rhythms and learning to play the kaval as well. I was trying to get the groove of your example of 9/8 Karsilama, but I could not feel it. I have had to discern some dances and what people do with their clapping hands, to be able to grasp the groove of 5/8, 7/8, and 9/8. then based on your version of Karsilama, and thinking it faster, this way make more sense to me: (let me know what you think please!):
Dk Tk Dk Tkk - Dk Tk Dk Tkk. (1-2 1-2 1-2 1-2-3) It Would be very interesting to me how Bulgarians would play this rhythm on the Darbuka...

Hello! Thank you very much, watched all ur teaching videos, and found it extremly useful, actually u helped me at the hard time after the very first steps, when i didn't know what to do next. All ur explanations fits so well, i'm glad u're doing this!
U made all videos about basic hit, except slaps - is it, may be, a good idea to fill this gap?

I do not understand the fillings
    In Kaşlamı....
The wriring in the video is too small and you speak too quick for beginners.
The rest is wonderful and understandable. Thank you very much.
