- The unconventional Alaska Airlines TV ads from the 1980s and ’90s got a little fresh air at this year’s American Advertising Hall of Fame ceremony.
The commercials were directed by legendary ad man Joe Sedelmaier, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in April - and some of Alaska’s award-winning commercials were shown at the gala ceremony in New York.
These commercials were some of the funniest ads throughout my childhood!
I remember these clever commercials. Boy do I miss the 80's
I wish these commercials were back on the air. Somehow amusing to reflect on these and the current state of flying is now - these commercials nailed it. They were always funny and entertaining to watch. Sedelmeier did a great job directing the commercials.
The new commercials are super cringe.
So true. Even commercials were better back then.
I am a retired Flight Attendant and I can tell you I have seen it all and this ad , even from way back then, nailed it right down to the executives eating lobster while bargaining like they’re in Baghdad to feed the passengers dog food and then the HELL today’s passengers have to put up with. I only fly in First Class now and if for some reason I can’t, I don’t go ….
I really miss these classic commercials! They take me back...🙂
I loved these commercials so much!!!!!!
I miss the commercials so much.
I'm 72 yeras old, getting ready to "check out". No doubt, the Super Cut AAL was the best commercial I ever saw. Thanks for the laugh.
Tim and Eric sent me here. I can totally see why Tim loved these wacky ads
I recognized his voice right away from Forensic Files!
Hollie T, Peter Thomas. Just passed away recently.
ah shit
Yes, he was a great story teller!
I knew he was the voice of the man that he would do the work for forensic files himself.
As a kids, I couldn't stop laughing at the bathroom scene.
I recently showed it to my grumpy, never amused 13 and 15 year olds.
They also had tears running down their faces from laughter.
Every once in a while, I'll catch one of them off guard while we're out in public by going "PSSSHHHTTTT!" and make a "hand spreading out" motion and then go "Bing!Bing!Bing!" and they start laughing again because they know what I'm doing and it gets them every time.
35 years later. Little has changed in the industry and this is still funny AF.
That sound the crouton makes when it expands into a jumbo crouton gets me every time.
AMAZING!!! I remember these ads as a kid...so good! By the way, there really IS an airline called "SkyHigh Airlines" now...I just saw the sign at Aruba Intl. Airport and thought of this ad!
You guys always had the best commercials. They were always funny.
Damn! I saw all these ads on TV as an early teen and thought that they were the funniest thing on TV, I forgot what TV program I was watching but sure remember the good Alaska Airlines commercials.
2:10 Bwahaha! My favorite part of the old AA commercials.
I always looked forward to watching their newest funny commercials!! 😂
I appreciate the 1980's super cuts of Alaska Airlines' ads, but I wish the channel would upload the compilation of each commercial in its entirety.
There's one where the flight attendant pours hot coffee on a passenger's lap and another one (or maybe it's the same commercial) where AA is testing out headphones and it's so loud that it cracks the glass on the passenger's glasses! 🤣🤣🤣
@@MWolfe-rd4jb I came here explicitly for the hot coffee scene. Also, the reusable parsley scene.
Fun fact!
The Narrator for each Commercial-
Peter Thomas
"Forensic Files"
I see the influence Tim Heidecker garnered from these commercials
love the videos. They are informational, fun, funny and cute...lov, love, love.
You have great commercials! Well done!
1:40 "Thank you... and it's diyAH"
I like it when the guy has to keep going through the metal detector.
Was even funnier after he goes to the middle detector several times he's now behind a stationary curtain nude and being wanded by a metal detector with the same bland look on his face!!!
Except for serving and the lack of TSA, pretty accurate. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to check in at the video kiosk.
This is really good!
Classic Sedelmaier commercials. They were the best. Also Federal Express, Godfathers Pizza and others. And Wendy's. Classic Soviet commercial.
I thought it was an agency called "Wongdoody".
The tape that is guaranteed is hilarious!! hahahahaha
I miss these!
thanks Bob
This aged well
"Furthermore I have better food in prison" 😄😄😄😄
I remember these so dam funny, loved em, how can you not know who the sponsor was ....
this is the best
Tim And Eric referred this to me
Not even emojis can describe what each advert has in common... 🛫💼💺...😡😖😫😴... but all in all... 🤣
Timelessly funny!
Rabid Leroy Channel Salad g p
They knew the future way before many of us did....
Every body loves the taste of you 😍
Very funny commercial 🤣 classic.
Tim Heidecker said he was heavily influenced by these commercials, I can see why with all the weird faces the actors are making
This video doesn’t wanna make me go on that plane 😂
0:12 "Quarters for the bathroom guy" is on the far right!!
Remember these funny commercials 🎃
3:10 Bob Weiss FLIPS OFF the lady he's offering $10 for 2 quarters! He'd really appreciate it!!
2020 YES THIS IS THE AIRLKES TODAY
I am Laughing! 0:33
The pant & Clothing go BRRRRR!
I like it.
:)
I like the one sink sprays the guy in the crotch light comes on back to your seat
I can't stop laughing about the sink sprayer either!
“The most wide body seating availability which, i might add, is the widest body seating availability available….”
3:00 One of Andy Dick's first commercials.
That's the Forensic Files voice.
Omg yes.
Ahh! My dad worked on some of these as an art director. Probs either back in his Backer Speilvogel (sp?) days or when he was freelancing :)
These commercials are great with the voice over I’m thinking Seattle Mariners commercials from the 1990s and 2000s. I wonder if it’s the same firm. It’s definitely the same form! Classic!!
Also remember the “Clark & Lewis Expedition” commercials from the 1990s maybe (for Frontier airlines I think) that I remember hearing on the radio with Richard Kind voicing one of the two explorers. Very comical stuff!!
I distinctly remember 2:06-2:15 from childhood, and the guy at the end trying to get change for the bathroom.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. That was Bob Weiss, former NBA coach!
That was Andy Dick at 3:00.
I like it.
1:51🤣🤣🤣
That new alaska airline commercial that demands you be vaccinated or “you won’t fly with them”. I like how they’re all wearing masks. If everyone is vaccinated including the staff, the masks seem unnecessary. I also like how you can’t comment on those commercials on CZcams. So I left both my pennies here 🙂
This is way the US is still one step ahead
People think that Bob Weiss is the guy trying to get the quarters for the bathroom. Actually, he is the guy getting strip-searched.
Flying has gotten to this, Alaska predicted it
Great material
I like it
I like the man asking for change and knocks the guys head to the side genius
I liked it...haha😎
Interesting that this video allows comments, but their new video does not.
Ikr
20 million Latinx in 1990, 40 million in late 2008
Ha!Ha!! Love it!
The guy in the begining in the transformers announcer isnt it?
Q curioso este comercial de alaska airlines de los años 80 . Tedescribe el actualidad como se viaja en los vuelos actuales y reducido los servicios
Check your MD 80’s!
So true
Better than the Care Bear Pedo in a trenchcoat
GARNTEEED!
The title says 80s but the desc. says 80s AND 90s. So should the title include 90s?
this is hilarious
I went on a plain once
They spent more on their commercials than maintenance.
No that's 10-20 years later when it became obvious (Alaska 261)
I'm pretty sure that's Andy Dick at 3:00.
That's Andy Dick alright.
lmao 🤣
Too funny!
1:52 eye
oh ok
Is that Andy Dick at 3:00?
I was looking for another comment that saw that.
I wish you guys stuck with your guns about not cramming more seats. I miss the old economy class seats that were from the -400 era. They might’ve not had power outlets, but they had padding.
ACID MAAAAAAAAAAAAN
TRIPPY TRIPPY
DAYS OF WINDOW PANES

I love the commercial... and I think I noticed a young Andy Dick at czcams.com/video/uSiibkSBTME/video.html ... but maybe not.
Just add covid measures and TSA to this and it would be just like flying nowadays. Flying in the 80's wasn't as dreadful compared to now.
lol
Por el momento no manejo el verbo traductor de Google inglés furama .
hmm comments turned off on all current shared videos what is alaska air afraid of
the TRUTH apparently
oops coming
I've never flown in the 80s and 90s before and I wasn't born at that time.
About the only airline I flew in the 80s was TWA, and flew Delta primarily in the 90s. 😊
SAME I AM A BABY IM 14
Why didn't he continue at Alaska? He would be president by now.
@@JMMT7022801 Remember travel agencies? I switched travel agencies one time booking a cross-country round-trip. Instead of my usual airlines, which included Alaska, I mostly flew Continental and America West. Certainly not an improvement. The worst leg was from Detroit to Cleveland in a rickety old turboprop. There was so much turbulence over Lake Erie, I felt the plane was going to break up throughout the ride.
I wish they had flights for only Vaccinated, I haven’t flown since the start of this🥲
Omg these were the same as the Del Taco commercials lol.
And how about going to the airport now a days????? *INSERT JOKE*
Yo these comments are OLD!
I think its funny that they turned the comments off on their recent videos celebrating medical tyranny.
So classic, funny, and memorable, unlike today's cringe Covid safety dance. 😱😱😱
Masking was really stupid
