- Grand Tourer Ep3 - In this video I visit Grand Tourer to catch up on the Falcon XB Coupe and XA GT sedan restorations and get to see two stunning XY GT Falcons.
Twice weekly visits to classic auto workshops featuring cars from the veteran to RADwood eras & including car restoration, rebuilds, repairs and restomods to anything from Aussie V8s, American muscle cars, Euro exotics, JDM, your coveted everyday runabout and more. If it's built before 1999, there's every chance I'll film it.
My name is Dave and I simply l love old cars and visiting workshops to chat to the people working on them. Added to that, I devour car content on youtube so I thought I'd join in and make some myself.
Hopefully you might like to come along for the journey as well.

Thanks to Dan, Mike and the lads at grandtourer.co...
I used to watch restoring dreams back when it was on tv. Good to see Dan keeping the company going.
i could gaze upon gt falcons all day long.
We’ve got an FG in ‘Viper’ purple, it’s a traffic stopper when washed, go the violet with a ceramic coating.
Once upon a time you couldn't sell a yellow ochre falcon now they one of the best colours for the xy
I remember I passed on a yellow ochre XY gt at the bathurst gt day the weekend before the race…
It was up in mcphillamy park would have been late 80’s early 90’s
Yellow ochre and auto great condition and the guy was having trouble shifting it for 10k
Boy I wish now I had of bought it…
I had a vintage burgundy gt at the time …
Lovely car
Should never have sold it !
Ok thank you 👍
Wild Violet with Orange Stripes 🍊
Off White Interior.. xcellent 😅
Tiz nice innit
Love the violet XY even though it more likely a replica. Just a beautiful colour and trim combination.
Definitely not a replica
Yellow🏆
Really enjoyed this Guys, top work
Glad you enjoyed it
Love both. Do half & half.
I think Chris, the owner of the yellow ochre might have something to say about that. He’s just won a gong at MotorEx and two at the GT Nats.
Wild violet definitely
There’s a car here czcams.com/video/jKy8nHCAsQc/video.html that will one day become a wild violet GT tribute
Wild Velvet 4me .
A mate of mine had the phase 3 gtho which I think may have been a phase4 gtho , my other mate had a Xa gt and they had a race one night. I rode in the XY gtho phase3 and I was pinned back in the seat for most of the ride. I noticed the speedo went right off the clock and was hard up against the pin . The XA was no where to be seen when we finished
That sends shivers down my spine. But great fun all the same
It was a nice ride
Wild Violet and white. Still regret I passed up an XA in that combo back in the mid 90s.
Had a factory sunroof in an XC and have had a few cars with sunroofs since but the Ford factory roof was the best.
No regrets Jacacatt. Says the man with a lifetime full of them
XA best of the rest and wild violet is the preferred colour
I will go and see them soon. Tell them don't use a Shifter and use a Soft Hammer when putting the Dust Caps back on😂 Have you contacted Harrop Engeering yet?
Yellow, I have never understood purples. But people do love their purple with white interior. Saddle interior is the go.
I dig the purples myself. Shoulda bought a XR6 BA in purple that was going for a song on carsales about a year ago. Heyho. Another that got away
@@davesclassicgaragetours My father had a diamond white zc fairlane when I was a kid and hit a calf in the middle of the road on the way home from the drive in cinema. He had it fixed and painted bright orange, it really stood out. Have you thought of blue? I had a Wedgwood? Blue xd and even did an HG in electric blue.
Saddle interior has never been a colour of my choice, or any shade of brown for that matter. just saying. Yellow is cool and purple is just perfect. Cheers
@@JAStheACE Ive never understood how people love "Saddle Trim" its ugly brown no matter which way you look at it. Black for the Yellow Ocre & Black or White trim for the Wild Violet.
@@alexspano6970 i agree mate.
Wild violet all the way !!!
I had a vintage burgundy XY gt back in the day
Wild violet would have been my second favourite
My mate had a wild violet GTHO and in the late 70’s he had it colour changed to yellow….
Regretting it years later
It really hurt the price
Check out the first video from TTT czcams.com/video/jKy8nHCAsQc/video.html , there’s a GS there (IIRC) that will one day become a wild violet GT tribute.
If this garage made their own content they will get a alot of subs
I have a Ford Falcon G6E 2008. Its been a good car, I nearly bought the last Holden Commodore (designed here) but decided against it as the Falcon has been so good. I am glad I did not buy one has GM pulled out of Australia. There are tons of Falcon parts available and Ford still here.
Ford Australia doesn't exist anymore, wouldn't that make parts for Falcons as rare as Commodore parts. Yes there will be Ford dealerships but no-one is making Falcon parts
No Noel Ford Australia still exist their head office is in Richmond Victoria.,3121. The ownership of Ford here ibasically groups of dealers paying a licence fee to Ford to use the name and for advertising. The cars are now imported but the dealers are still here. Holden was owned outright by GN in the USA and pulled out completely that is why no dealers left. Ford. Have tons of Falcon parts, plus wreckers even just look on eBay you will be amazed. There is much less for the Commodore especially the last one as it was not sold for that long. I am talking about the Australian model. Remember all taxis were Falcons for many years.
@@arunta5 there may be dealers but they aren't making anything can't sell parts that haven't been made
The parts are all ready made they have enough to last for years. They get them from head office who have them. Holden has no head office or distribution structure, totally gone. Electric cars are coming now there are three Teslas in my street. If I buy another it will probably be a Toyota Hybrid.
I knew the former service manager of a large Sydney Ford dealership quite well. Before that he was an engineer at Ford Australia. He knew the situation quite well. He is retired now.
After much consideration & soul searching i have come to the only sensible decision for this question. Both please.
Where would you like them delivered?
@@davesclassicgaragetours that would definitely be going to my future creditors.
The good old Aussie designed Fords
Not these ones Peter. That didn't happen until the next gen XA and even then there was input from Detroit.
@@davesclassicgaragetours the xy isn't available in the us, it has different quarters and roof skin not too mention a ton of reinforcement and completely different interior and motor options that no us falcon got, there as australian as the xa,b or c which borrow heavily off the torino and share the same falcon plateform and drive train, it would be very difficult to confuse a us falcon to an aus falcon and have very different body lines than the aus pressed panels
@@randomdude4669 Not suggesting they're the same champ. But up until the XA, from what I'm reading, the Aussie Falcon's were based on designs out of Detroit.
@@davesclassicgaragetours plenty of 70 Torino,Cobra in the XA coupes.
I always thought XR through to XY were Australian designed, how much Australian input was there on body styling
Yellow ochre 100%
Wild violet , would rather the black interior though!
it definitely splits opnion
Good stuff!
thanks
i think youll find the falcon design had a lot of australian input not all american in most models mate
I’m only going by what I’ve read. Happy to be directed to anything that contradicts any claims so that I can rectify it in later videos.
@@davesclassicgaragetours this is the golden era of mis information Ford Australia had a large design team based in australia
Both
Wild Violet every day of the week . 💜
What's the business name again please
Grand Tourer
Yellow
Yellow ochre
Vauxhall Viva. You can only car upwards.
What's the yellow called? Beautiful cars👍
That’s yellow ochre but don’t take what you see on screen as the true colour
@@davesclassicgaragetoursI saw this gt at motorex and straight away it didn't look like yellow ochre to me , I had one and this one's to yellow not baby shit brown 😅
Where are these Guys in outer Melbourne please
Campbellfield. Tell ‘em Dave sent you
Violet
Salut my friend super car super video subscribe subscribe .
Salut mon ami. merci beaucoup pour votre abonnement. c'est très apprécié.
How much does a full resto like that cost?
A lot.
It’ll depend on the state of the car that’s presented for restoration in the first place tbh.
XA was US designed, the ‘napkin’ was just a ‘doodle’, not a design and you can thank the Torino for its heritage. And please never mention vauxhall viva around GT Falcons again!
Hey, go easy mate. I learned to drive in a Vauxhall Viva 😅
Yellow paint should be illegal. Should get 10years fr being in possession of it.
hmmm
Ground hog day
It is for some Tom. Sorry about that. I 've been playing with the colour grade on a new editing system that hopefully makes the colours pop somewhat better than the past version. The ochre definitely wasn't ochre in that one and the violet was dull as not to mention the lads being completely washed out.
